Book Kindergarten Tales and Then Some

Download or read book Kindergarten Tales and Then Some written by Lloyd Wright and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-03-09 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kindergarten Tales and Then Some is about students in kindergarten and then some more stories. The story about the bus is intended to show the children riding the school bus the first time there is nothing to fear. When I first went to school I only needed a Big Chief tablet, lead pencil, and a box of crayons. I wrote the story on required school supplies so someday the children now in kindergarten will be able to look back and compare what they needed versus their grandchildren. Santa is present in some of the stories along with his reindeer and sleigh. It goes without saying where there is Santa there will be some of his elves. There are stories about how holidays are celebrated by kindergarten students. The book also tells of the compassion and generosity of the children toward others. Put all the stories together and they will show you the world will be in good hands in the future.

Book Hi Gramps

Download or read book Hi Gramps written by David Lorah and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-03-10 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An old man, affectionately known as Gramps, remembers and records some of the major events that shaped his life; from the accidental death of his only son to his own declining years. Spot-lighted are the lives of four boys. We watch appalled as Chase, the biological grandson, deals with cancer. We follow the maturing of Roger (who is rescued and subsequently adopted by Gramps) as he deals with a haunting past; Bradley, a young American boy who becomes an honorary grandson adding to the fun-side of Gramps experiences; and we feel for Edward as he deals with the loss of his best friend and later a disastrous courtship. Meet the Rev. Dr. James Hayward, the pompous headmaster of St. Johns; the over-weight, tactless Mrs. Henderson with her multiple chins; Caleb, the avid young fisherman who springs a surprise on Chase and Bradley that neither of them would ever have expected; the young Indian schoolboy who is victimized by the school bullies; young Phelps, the rat-faced stooge of the cowardly Harrington-Blake and others. The author has presented his public with an inspirational book that deals with issues such as the unfairness of life; stereotyping; judgmentalism; racism; corporal punishment; guilt; past regret; heartbreak; death; etc., from a practical, Christian perspective without being "preachy".

Book One Man s Love Story A Near Death Experience

Download or read book One Man s Love Story A Near Death Experience written by Jason Hughes and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2005-08 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir is based on my experiences in this world. Bob Marley, Princess Diana, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa, Deepak Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. have all talked about essentially the same thing: that there is One Universal Love that flows inside us all. And yet, life is often about harmonizing with the co-existence of opposite values. We constantly strive for balance within ourselves between life and death, being happy or sad, up and down, love and fear, pain and growth, and light and dark. One cannot exist without the other. Together, and individually, we all travel this vast spectrum at our own rate of speed and in our own unique ways. Experiencing these opposites is what often makes this journey interesting. Only by keeping our focus on the positive as much as possible, can we achieve, and enjoy, a healthy balance. But, if life is an inevitable balance between up and down, and good and bad, are we all at the mercy of the changing tides? How do we directly impact our experience? Why do so many of us wait for something bad to happen in our lives before we actually wake up and begin to move through life seeing clearly, as Nature intended. All too often we must go through many forms of pain before we discover the true growth that was intended for us. My own conscious contact came about as a result of a devastatingly painful experience, after which I began to realize that nothing is impossible, and that only together, can we realize this truth. I began to understand how much we all share in this life, and I realized we are clearly meant to work through our pain collectively. Together, we will discover happier states of existence. It is only with the true caring and sharing of so many, that I was able to survive a potentially insurmountable ordeal, and I am here today to share with you all I have learned. And this is my story -- of how I came to experience, embrace, and be transformed by, that Universal Love that great men and women before me, have also discovered. My goal is to connect and relate with you, my reader, on the most important and meaningful levels. I have learned that love is the answer, and when we open up to the many ways we can receive love every moment of our lives together, then life takes on a whole new meaning, one that will be better than anything we can imagine. It is my sincere hope that this book helps to heal, and promotes goodness in a world that can often be a tough playing field.

Book The Lifer and the Lawyer

Download or read book The Lifer and the Lawyer written by George Critchlow and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-12-09 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is true that some people are very damaged. It is not true that they are all unsalvageable. The Lifer and the Lawyer raises questions about childhood trauma, religion, race, the purpose of punishment, and a criminal justice system that requires harmless old men to die in prison. It is a true story about Michael Anderson, an aging African American man who grew up poor and abused on Chicago’s south side and became a violent and predatory criminal. Anderson has now spent the last forty-three years in prison as a result of a 1978 crime spree that took place in southeastern Washington. The book describes his spiritual and moral transformation in prison and challenges society’s assumption that he was an irredeemable monster. It also tells the story of the author’s evolving relationship with Anderson that began in 1979 when Critchlow, a young white lawyer from a privileged background, was appointed to defend Anderson on twenty-two violent felony charges. For Anderson, this is a story about overcoming childhood trauma and learning how to empathize and love through faith and self-knowledge. For Critchlow, the story also raises questions about how we become who we are—about race, culture, and opportunity. Finally, the book is a revealing commentary on our criminal justice system’s obsession with life sentences.

Book excerpt: Folktales teach, inform, and heal. Most of all, they entertain. Here's a collection of tales rich with homespun humor, charm, and wisdom--all told with flair by some of Florida's best and most sought-after storytellers. Their stories will make you feel part of the great "family" that is Florida. If it's spooky ghost stories you crave, let "The Silent Customer," "Kissimmee Bound," and "The Ghost Dog of the Biltmore" chill your spine. Heed the Cracker wisdom handed down in "Seek the Higher Ground," cow-hunter poetry with a message. Chuckle over the misadventures of Flossie, Bubba, and Flo in "Three Little Cracker Pigs," a tongue-in-cheek version of the classic children's tale. Test your wits against the little troll in "Angelina and Cigam." Will he have you running in circles, growing smaller with each snap of his fingers? Take "Cousin Cassie's Cookin" with a grain of salt. It's not true, of course. Then again, if Cassie asks you to dinner, say you have other plans. Many Indian legends attempt to explain why the world exists as it is. In this tradition, several tales target specific flukes of nature--the rabbit's short tail, the flamingo's long neck, the woodpecker's lack of song--and offer entertaining reasons for their existence. Discover these legends too: "The Devil's Millhopper," "The Legend of Lake Okeechobee," "Monkey, the Trickster," "Why Florida Key Deer Are So Small." A few history lessons never hurt anyone, and these are entertaining as well. Jonathan Dickinson, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Jake Summerlin have a thing or two to teach you about overcoming adversity and being resourceful. Settle back into your easy chair and let these tales entertain you.

Book Gramp s Christmas Tales

Download or read book Gramp s Christmas Tales written by Lloyd Wright and published by . This book was released on 2006-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gramp's Christmas Tales is a book containing short stories written for my grandchildren, my little friends at school, and anyone else with a curious mind and a love for Christmas. Some of the tales came from listening to two kindergarten classes at the Elementary school in Gosnell, Arkansas. They were then written and tested on these classes. Most of the tales are from delving into Santa's personal life, which Santa is always eager to share with children of all ages. It does not matter if you are in kindergarten or in a nursing home Santa is always willing to talk if somebody is willing to listen. Gramps listened while he was visiting Santa at the North Pole. I have tried to incorporate good manners, love, friendship, laughter, sharing, safety, and imagination throughout the book. I am a volunteer that has been fortunate enough to find two kindergarten classes that will share their time and affection with me. They refer to me as, "Gramps."
