Book Voices for Change in the Classical Music Profession

Download or read book Voices for Change in the Classical Music Profession written by Anna Bull and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume advances understanding of the nature of current inequalities in the field of classical music production in the Global North, exploring why inequalities continue to exist, and asking what can be done to tackle ongoing exclusions. It constitutes an urgent intervention into these contemporary debates, drawing together ongoing and emergent analyses from scholars, activists and musicians in a variety of countries across Europe and North America to foreground both scholarly examination of these inequalities, alongside discussion of strategies and catalysts for change. Academic accounts investigate inequalities in higher education and the classical music industry, exploring racial, class and gender inequalities, 'authenticity', disability representation, changing the canon, and neoliberalism. The book also includes interviews with those working in the classical music industry where they reflect on issues of diversity and share insights and inspiration as well as good practice, putting into dialogue scholarly and industry-based accounts. Themes of the book include institutional legacies and possibilities for change; racial, gender and class inequalities and marginalised voices; and strategies for activism whether reflective practices, informal networks, or larger organisations leading change"--

Book The Scriptorium and Library at Monte Cassino 1058 1105

Download or read book The Scriptorium and Library at Monte Cassino 1058 1105 written by Francis Newton and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-04-29 with total page 892 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all the history of hand-written books, one of the most distinctive and handsome scripts is that of the abbey of Monte Cassino. This study examines for the first time in detail the development of this script during the Abbey's greatest period of wealth and influence, under Desiderius (abbot 1058-1087) and his successor Oderisius (abbot 1087-1105). The characteristic Cassinese hand was established long before, but in this period it was transformed into what is today considered its classic form. The present study rests on a fresh examination of many details of the Beneventan (South Italian) script in aspects incompletely studied before. It aims to provide a new history of Monte Cassino as a writing centre and to offer a context for many unique or valuable texts manuscripts that it processed.

Book Storia Critica Dell Insegnamento Della Musica In Italia

Download or read book Storia Critica Dell Insegnamento Della Musica In Italia written by Carlo Delfrati and published by Antonio Tombolini editore. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Lucia Moholy 1894 1989

Download or read book Lucia Moholy 1894 1989 written by Lucia Moholy and published by Silvana Editoriale. This book was released on 2012 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photographer, writer and intellectual, Lucia Moholy (born Lucia Schulz, Karolinenthal, Prague, 1894 - Zollikon, Zurich, 1989) is a central figure in the 20th century history of photography, although the fame of her husband, the renowned artist László Moholy-Nagy, overshadowed her work for a long time. Through her photographs, an example of the German avant-garde and of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity), it is possible to understand the complexity of her artistic personality and to reconstruct the role she played in the cultural history of the past century. Her major photographic work is on the Bauhaus: pictures of the school, of teachers, objects and furniture are considered as true icons of modern times. The essays published in this volume allow us to understand and outline Lucia Moholy's complex artistic personality, thus giving her the correct place she is due in 20th century culture. 0Exhibition: Museo MAX, Chiasso, Italy (24.11.2012-31.1.2013).
