This book was released on 1979 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted on a four-finned, ogive-cylinder store model which was mounted on the von Karman Gas Dynamics Facility (VKF) Captive Trajectory System (CTS) in the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) Supersonic Wind Tunnel A. The purpose of these tests was to provide information necessary for an independent check on the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. Grid and trajectory data were obtained for the store, both in the free stream and in the interference flow field of a generalized parent-aircraft model. The Mach number was 1.63, with Reynolds numbers per foot of 5.0 and 3.8 million. Grid data from these tests were used in conjunction with the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory (AFFDL) Six-Degree-of-Freedom Computer Program (SDFCP) to simulate the trajectories obtained by the VKF CTS. These SDFCP simulations compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important compared favorably with the CTS trajectories, providing an important independent verification of the VKF CTS trajectory mode results. This report documents this validation effort and provides a general description of the VKF CTS as well as guidelines for potential users of this system. (Author).

Download or read book Store Separation Testing Techniques at the Arnold Engineering Development Center written by E. G Allee (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic drop testing is a method of trajectory simulation whereby store models which are both geometrically and dynamically scaled are released in the wind tunnel air stream and the resulting trajectories are mapped photographically. Drop testing is often used when captive trajectory testing is not feasible or for final trajectory verification prior to flight tests. (Author).

Book Comparison of Store Trajectory and Aerodynamic Loads and Model Flow field Characteristics Obtained in the AEDC PWT 4T and VFK A Wind Tunnels at Mach Number 1 63

Download or read book Comparison of Store Trajectory and Aerodynamic Loads and Model Flow field Characteristics Obtained in the AEDC PWT 4T and VFK A Wind Tunnels at Mach Number 1 63 written by D. W Hill (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted in the VKF/A and PWT/4T wind tunnels at AEDC to obtain captive trajectory, aerodynamic loads, and flowfield data in order to assess the ability to reproduce trajectories from tunnel to tunnel. The data were obtained with a 0.05-scale generalized shape aircraft model, an ogive-cylinder store model, and conical flow survey probes at and near the centerline fuselage station pylon and the wing 1/3-semispan station pylon. The tests were conducted at a Mach number of 1.63 with aircraft model angle of attack set at zero. Generally, the trajectories obtained in the two wind tunnels compared well. There was very good agreement in the translational motion of the store trajectories, with only slight differences in the angular motion in selected cases. (Author).

Book An Analytic Investigation of Accuracy Requirements for Onboard Instrumentation and Film Data for Dynamically Scaled Wind Tunnel Drop Models

Download or read book An Analytic Investigation of Accuracy Requirements for Onboard Instrumentation and Film Data for Dynamically Scaled Wind Tunnel Drop Models written by K. S. Keen and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytic study was conducted to evaluate anticipated ranges and required accuracies for onboard linear acceleration and angular rate (or acceleration) measurement equipment to be mounted within dynamically scaled wind tunnel drop models. Generic simulations of the separation motion of a tumbling fuel tank both at full scale and at 1/15th wind tunnel model scale were generated using an analytic trajectory simulation program coupled with a prescribed aerodynamic database. The simulations provide a basis for sizing the required instrumentation for proof of concept demonstrations of telemetry techniques in the wind tunnel. The simulations were also used as test cases to demonstrate extraction of aerodynamic information from drop data positions and orientations as read from film records via an inverse solution of the store equations of motion. The studies also aid identification and evaluation of inaccuracies associated with the basic dynamic scaling laws and standard film based data reduction techniques.

Book Experimental and Theoretical Study of Cavity Acoustics

Download or read book Experimental and Theoretical Study of Cavity Acoustics written by R. E. Dix and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 1986 and 1990, a large database was compiled at AEDC from the results of a series of wind tunnel experiments investigating the aerodynamics of flow over open cavities. The database, known as the Weapons Internal Carriage and Separation (WICS) database, covered four experiments that were completed in the AEDC wind tunnels. The initial database documentation focused on the test and data, but included very little analysis of the results. The purpose of the present work is to report analysis of the cavity acoustics and trajectory data. In addition, an updated engineering mathematical model for cavity aeroacoustics is presented.
