This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. is experiencing an epidemic in many mental health related disorders including childhood autism, pedophilia and gender expansion. The author discovered the physiological process that creates these disorders while working for the Canadian Space Agency's Predictive Medicine Group in Ottawa Canada in 2012 by using his prognostics and health management (PHM) technology's prognostic analysis that identifies the presence of premature aging. The author was asked by the Canadian Space Agency personnel to determine if his predictive algorithms could identify the astronauts in training that would acquire a mental illness on future planned deep space missions to Mars for replacement with an astronaut that would not. The author's research results identified the cause of mental illness and the physiological information needed from each astronaut to predict which would acquire a mental illness. The same research results explains how other mental disorders and altered brain states are created including pedophiles and how to stop them from being created, stopping the current epidemic of pedophilia, childhood autism and gender confusion. Just as an engineering diagnostic analysis identifies spacecraft equipment failures from premature aging after they occur as well as health issues caused from premature aging after they occur in a medical diagnostic analysis, the author's PHM's prognostic analysis identifies the spacecraft equipment information needed to predict spacecraft equipment failures from premature aging with 100% certainty and brain disorders and altered states needed to predict them with certainty such as mental illness, autism, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, gender confusion and pedophilia. The author was successful by applying his proprietary predictive algorithms to identify the presence of premature aging in physiological information. By using PHM's prognostic analysis, the author was able to identify the presence premature aging in health data and identify how the same changes in the brain that cause mental illness, autism and gender expansion creates pedophiles and what is needed to stop creating these disorders and altered brain states as well as all other auto-immune and immune system diseases including as cancer and childhood autism, arthritis and diabetes and he identified which ones can be stopped, cured and/or how to recover from them.

Book The Preventive Gaze

Download or read book The Preventive Gaze written by Rik Peeters and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prevention is better than cure. This adage has become an important guideline for governments in recent years. Prevention of terrorist attacks, of recidivism among habitual offenders, of dropouts among problem adolescents, or of obesity among children: the existing repertoires of the constitutional state and the welfare state are complemented by a preventive intervention repertoire in a broad range of policy domains. But what does this transformation imply for our understanding of the state in late-modern society? This study reconstructs the emergence of 'the preventive gaze' in politics and policymaking, and discusses its consequences for the relation between state and society. Prevention seems to be a logical answer in the face of contemporary social issues such as security, education, welfare, and public health. However, prevention also has an expansive logic and pushes the state towards an ever more detailed, comprehensive, and timely approach to risks. As a consequence, the emergence of the 'prevention state' tends towards a slow and silent politicization of society and usurpation of the state-free domain.

Book Restorative Justice and the Law

Download or read book Restorative Justice and the Law written by L. Walgrave and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Restorative justice has developed from a barely known term to a central role in debates on the future of criminal justice. But as it has moved into the mainstream so new tensions and issues have emerged as it becomes increasingly integrated into normal practice, and part of broader legal and judicial systems both in common law countries and those with centralised legal systems. The purpose of this book is to explore this developing relationship between the concepts and practice of restorative justice on the one hand, and the law and legal systems on the other. Amongst the questions it addresses are the following: how are informal processes to be juxtaposed with formal procedures? what is the appropriate relationship between voluntarism and coercion? how can the procedures and practices of restorative justice be combined with legal standards, safeguards and precepts?

Book Hospital Based Health Technology Assessment

Download or read book Hospital Based Health Technology Assessment written by Laura Sampietro-Colom and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timely work describing how localized hospital-based health technology assessment (HB-HTA) complements general, ‘arms-length’ HTA agency efforts, and what has been the collective global impact of HB-HTA across the globe. While HB-HTA has gained significant momentum over the past few years, expertise in the field, and information on the operation and organization of HB-HTA, has been scattered. This book serves to bring this information together to inform those who are currently working in the field of HTA at the hospital, regional, national or global level. In addition, this book is intended for decision-makers and policy-makers with a stake in determining the uptake and decommissioning of new and established technologies in the hospital setting. HTA has traditionally been performed at the National/Regional level by HTA Agencies, typically linked to governments. Yet hospitals are the main entry door for most health technologies (HTs). Hospital decision-makers must undertake multiple high stakes investment and disinvestment decisions annually for innovative HTs, usually without adequate information. Despite the existence of arms-length HTA Agencies, inadequate information is available to hospital decision-makers either because relevant HTA reports are not yet released at the time of entry of new technologies to the field, or because even when the report exists, the information contained is insufficient to clarify the contextualized informational needs of hospital decision makers. Therefore, there has recently been a rising trend toward hospital-based HTA units and programs. These units/programs complement the work of National/Regional HTA Agencies by providing the key and relevant evidence needed by hospital decision makers in their specific hospital context, and within required decision-making timelines. The emergence of HB-HTA is creating a comprehensive HTA ecosystem across health care levels, which creates better bridges for knowledge translation through relevance and timeliness.

Book excerpt: A shocking exposé of sexual abuse and the struggle for justice at one of America's most prestigious schools In June 2012, Amos Kamil's New York Times Magazine cover story, "Prep-School Predators," caused a shock wave that is still rippling. In his piece, Kamil detailed a decades-long pattern of sexual abuse at the highly prestigious Horace Mann School in the Bronx. After the article appeared, Kamil closely observed the fallout. While the article revealed the misdeeds of three teachers, this was just the beginning: an extraordinary twenty-two former Horace Mann teachers and administrators have since been accused of abuse. In Great Is the Truth, Kamil and his coauthor, Sean Elder, tell the riveting story of how one of the country's leading schools was beset by scandal. In 1970, Horace Mann hired R. Inslee "Inky" Clark Jr. as its headmaster. As Yale's wunderkind dean of admissions, Clark had helped revolutionize the Ivy League by recruiting a more diverse student body. In the coming years, he would raise Horace Mann to new heights of academic distinction even as serious complaints against beloved teachers were ignored. Kamil and Elder introduce those teachers, among them a popular football coach who had reportedly tried out for the Washington Redskins, a distinguished conductor who took his prize students on foreign trips, an otherworldly English teacher who discussed Eastern philosophy over tea and helped tend the school's gardens, and another English instructor, who told his students that they were mere dust under his foot in comparison to Shakespeare. In gripping detail, Kamil and Elder relate what happened as survivors of abuse came forward and sought redress. We see the school and its influential backers circle the wagons. We meet Horace Mann alumni who work to change New York State's sexual abuse laws. We follow a celebrity lawyer's contentious efforts to achieve a settlement. And we encounter a former teacher who candidly recalls his inappropriate relationships with students. Kamil and Elder also examine other institutions-from prep schools to the Catholic Church-that have sought to atone for their complicity in abuse and to prevent it from reoccurring. "Great is the truth and it prevails" may be the motto of Horace Mann, but for many alumni the truth remains all too hard to come by. This book is essential reading for anyone trying to understand how an elite institution can fail those in its charge, and what can be done about it.
