Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SYDNEY TAYLOR BOOK AWARD HONOREE FOR OLDER READERS! WINNER OF THE NATIONAL JEWISH BOOK AWARD FOR CHILDREN'S LITERATURE! An unforgettable coming-of-age story about comedy, loss, and friendship for fans of Jennifer L. Holm and Gary D. Schmidt. Spoiler alert: This book is not about the Three Stooges. It's about Noah and Dash, two seventh graders who are best friends and comedy junkies. That is, they were best friends, until Dash's father died suddenly and Dash shut Noah out. Which Noah deserved, according to Noa, the girl who, annoyingly, shares both his name and his bar mitzvah day. Now Noah's confusion, frustration, and determination to get through to Dash are threatening to destroy more than just their friendship. But what choice does he have? As Noah sees it, sometimes you need to risk losing everything, even your sense of humor, to prove that gone doesn't have to mean "gone for good." Equal parts funny, honest, and deeply affecting, All Three Stooges is a book that will stay with readers long after the laughter subsides. "Perl has created a moving coming-of-age journey steeped in Jewish traditions and comedic history, elegantly balancing humor with an honest look at the impact of suicide. Noah's genuine voice and tricky situation will have readers pulling for him."--Publishers Weekly "This novel is excellent on multiple fronts. A satisfying story that will appeal to all middle grade readers."--SLJ "Watching Noah repeatedly sliding on a banana peel (even, once, literally) gives readers plenty of occasions to wince, to chortle, and ultimately, to applaud."--Booklist "A welcome portrayal of a very difficult situation’s impact on someone not ready to deal with it—and there are plenty of funny moments to make it all easier to take."--Horn Book

Book excerpt: Formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967, the Stooges are icons of modern rock, influencing the fledgling sounds of punk, heavy metal, and hard core. From the beginning, lead singer and provocateur Iggy Pop (b. James Osterberg) astounded audiences with his outrageous stage performances, accompanied by guitarist Ron Asheton, his drummer brother Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander with their raw and bracing sound. The group disbanded in 1974, but reunited in 2003 to play before a vastly expanded fan base of over 10 million devotees worldwide, and they continue to tour today. In this book, rock photographer Robert Matheu compiles the first ever authorized book about the band, including iconic photographs, classic interviews, and vintage articles and ephemera dating from the band's breakout performances in Detroit in the late 1960s through their most recent shows in 2009. With new interviews from every significant member of the Stooges, past and present, previously unpublished photography, and a Stooges discography, The Stooges is the definitive book about this trailblazing band.

Download or read book Pop You re poifect written by C3 Entertainment, Inc and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably the most recognizable and influential comedy team of all time, The Three Stooges have been making the world laugh since 1930. For four decades, beginning in the '30s, The Three Stooges were kings of the box office-first in a series of legendary comic shorts for Columbia and later in a string of successful feature films. In all, they made over 200 films! Half a century later, the act is still knocking them dead. Demand for The Three Stooges is so strong that their films can currently be seen every day of the week on cable TV-bringing the manic comic genius of Moe, Larry, and Curly to a whole new generation of delighted fans. These two new books pair vintage black and white photos from The Three Stooges's incredible film archive with short and snappy text that celebrates fathers and birthdays. "Why, I Oughta . . ." is an encouraging little reminder that getting older doesn't have to be so painful. ("Even if some of us aren't as curly as we used to be"), and Pop, You're "Poifect" pays tribute to dear old dad. Written to be given as a gift to dad, it offers an apology for the trials kids put parents through ("I know that there were nights when I kept you awake with worry, and days I probably made you pull out your hair in frustration-especially grade card days.") and words of thanks ("So thanks for all the times you've bailed me out-not literally, of course-not yet"). The words work in perfect tandem with the slapstick shots of The Three Stooges in action-and the net result is two books sure to delight Stooges fans new and old. So, will these books be a hit? "Soitenly!"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stooges Brass Band always had big dreams. From playing in the streets of New Orleans in the mid-1990s to playing stages the world over, they have held fast to their goal of raising brass band music and musicians to new heights—professionally and musically. In the intervening years, the band’s members have become family, courted controversy, and trained a new generation of musicians, becoming one of the city’s top brass bands along the way. Two decades after their founding, they have decided to tell their story. Can’t Be Faded: Twenty Years in the New Orleans Brass Band Game is a collaboration between musician and ethnomusicologist Kyle DeCoste and more than a dozen members of the Stooges Brass Band, past and present. It is the culmination of five years of interviews, research, and writing. Told with humor and candor, it’s as much a personal account of the Stooges’ careers as it is a story of the city’s musicians and, even more generally, a coming-of-age tale about black men in the United States at the turn of the twenty-first century. DeCoste and the band members take readers into the barrooms, practice rooms, studios, tour vans, and streets where the music is made and brotherhoods are shaped and strengthened. Comprised of lively firsthand accounts and honest dialogue, Can’t Be Faded is a dynamic approach to collaborative research that offers a sensitive portrait of the humans behind the horns.

Book Iggy and The Stooges On Stage 1967 to 1974

Download or read book Iggy and The Stooges On Stage 1967 to 1974 written by Per Nilsen and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-25 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stooges were formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, outside Detroit. They created three classic albums between 1969 and 1973: The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power. Despite a lack of commercial success, the band attracted a small, devoted following and laid a musical foundation that would influence generations of artists. The Stooges' music was raw, primal, exciting, and the unique, but it was the compelling stage presence of the band's singer, Iggy Pop, that made them legendary. Stooges' performances were unpredictable, with the singer inciting audiences to react and making it impossible for them to remain complacent. He was passionate, fearless and, at times, expressed himself in genuinely frightening ways, performing self-mutilation, stage dives, crowd surfing and rushing into the audience to confront hecklers or spontaneously interact with anyone offstage who struck his fancy. Iggy tore down the barriers that traditionally existed between audience and performer, forcing the audience to become part of the overall performance. But by 1974, he was locked into an orbit of self-annihilation and drug abuse which led, ultimately, to the demise of the band in February of that year. This book explores, in depth, all the concerts the Stooges played 1967-74, bringing the live experience to life through eyewitness accounts, press reports and other source materials, to present an unprecedented account of the Stooges' performances during this period.
