Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stone Cold Mental Volume I In this series I'll share with you my personal collection of mentalism I've built up over the past decade and a half or so. The 13 items to follow are just a small sample of what's to come. All of this material has never been published anywhere prior to this series. In this first volume, you'll find ten effects in a few different categories, namely ESP, tarot, "time", bizarre, and "luck". Plus 3 bonus ideas including an effect specifically for magicians as well as a utility idea, and a fun presentational idea for your stand up/stage show. Also included you'll find 8 QR Codes with links to video footage, a secret website, and a whole bunch of other stuff! Step inside and join me on the journey to de-boring-ify your mentalism. Why be boring when you can be Stone Cold Mental! Inevitability A prediction is openly placed on the table. The spectator truly shuffles a packet of ESP cards then (without the mentalist ever touching the packet) deals them out on to the table stopping whenever they want. The prediction, of course, is correct. The spectator's choice is truly a free choice. Extra Sensory Pendulum The mentalist finds the spectator's thought of ESP card with a pendulum. Then the spectator finds the mentalist's thought of ESP card using a pendulum. The spectator truly has a free thought of ESP card. There is no force. Torched Tarot What follows is a very powerful moment of wonder. This will be a true connecting moment with your "spectator." The fact is, that this is more meant for a private one-on-one meeting with the spectator as a "sitter" and you as a "reader." This truly is very scary-powerful. Please, please, use it wisely and responsibly. Nightmarot The haruspex predicts a thought of tarot card in just about the creepiest way possible. Don't worry, no entrails or sacrificed animals were involved. The Persistence of Time One spectator reveals the merely thought of hour of another spectator. Time Enough at Last This effect is the same as the preceding effect. However, rather than drawings of clocks, actual watches are used, and the presentation is quite a bit different and has an overall different kind of vibe. Hotel Hell The key to the hotel room of a serial killer is shown to have a spiritual connection to the murderer causing a fireball to appear from nowhere, and other super creepy things. The Purge A voodoo doll wrapped in a cloth is seen to move. Then a pin appears in the voodoo doll at the exact place chosen by the spectator. Bone Count A spectator secretly chooses a number on a die. Another spectator chooses 1 of 6 facedown cards (i.e., one for each number on a die). The card chosen matches the number on the die. As a kicker, the other cards are shown to be completely blank. No equivoque. LOST Lottery The mental mind manipulator is able to hear the thoughts of the piqued participants as they think of some lottery numbers.

Book The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind

This book was released on 2000-08-15 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National Book Award Finalist: “This man’s ideas may be the most influential, not to say controversial, of the second half of the twentieth century.”—Columbus Dispatch At the heart of this classic, seminal book is Julian Jaynes's still-controversial thesis that human consciousness did not begin far back in animal evolution but instead is a learned process that came about only three thousand years ago and is still developing. The implications of this revolutionary scientific paradigm extend into virtually every aspect of our psychology, our history and culture, our religion—and indeed our future. “Don’t be put off by the academic title of Julian Jaynes’s The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind. Its prose is always lucid and often lyrical…he unfolds his case with the utmost intellectual rigor.”—The New York Times “When Julian Jaynes . . . speculates that until late in the twentieth millennium BC men had no consciousness but were automatically obeying the voices of the gods, we are astounded but compelled to follow this remarkable thesis.”—John Updike, The New Yorker “He is as startling as Freud was in The Interpretation of Dreams, and Jaynes is equally as adept at forcing a new view of known human behavior.”—American Journal of Psychiatry

Book The Open Focus Brain

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This breakthrough book presents a disarmingly simple idea: The way we pay attention in daily life can play a critical role in our health and well-being. According to Dr. Les Fehmi, a clinical psychologist and researcher, many of us have become stuck in "narrow-focus attention": a tense, constricted, survival mode of attention that holds us in a state of chronic stress—and which lies at the root of common ailments including anxiety, depression, ADD, stress-related migraines, and more. To improve these conditions, Dr. Fehmi explains that we must learn to return to a relaxed, diffuse, and creative form of attention, which he calls "Open Focus." This highly readable and empowering book offers straightforward explanations and simple exercises on how to shift into a more calm, open style of attention that reduces stress, improves health, and enhances performance. The Open-Focus Brain features eight essential attention exercises for improving health. Dr. Fehmi writes, "Everyone has the ability to heal their nervous systems, to dissolve their pain, to slow down and yet accomplish more, to experience the deeper side of life—in short, to change their lives for the better dramatically." At last readers can learn the techniques that Dr. Fehmi has offered to thousands of clients—the same drug-free, safe, and effective techniques that have led to remarkable and long-lasting results. The Open-Focus Brain offers readers a revolutionary, drug-free way to: • alleviate depression, anxiety, and ADD • reduce stress-related chronic pain • optimize mental and physical performance The eBook includes a downloadable audio program that provides further guidance on: • essential attention exercises from the book, led by Dr. Fehmi • how to "train the brain" to reduce stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and more • safe and effective techniques used in Dr. Fehmi's clinic for decades

Book excerpt: A perfectly wicked debut thriller about an ambitious woman who, after a lifetime of conning alongside her mother, wants to leave her dark past behind and marry the heir to one of the country's wealthiest families. Like any enterprising woman, Bea knows what she’s worth and is determined to get all she deserves—it just so happens that what she deserves is to marry rich. Filthy rich. After years of forced instruction by her mother in the art of swindling men, a now-solo Bea wants nothing more than to close and lock the door on their sordid partnership so she can disappear safely into old-money domesticity, sealing the final phase of her escape. When Bea chooses her ultimate target in the fully loaded, thoroughly dull, and blue-blooded Collin Case, she’s ready to deploy all of her tricks one last time. The challenge isn’t getting the ring, but rather the approval of Collin’s family and everyone else in their 1 percent tax bracket, particularly his childhood best friend, Gale Wallace-Leicester. Going toe-to-toe with Gale isn’t a threat to an expert like Bea, but what begins as an amusing cat-and-mouse game quickly develops into a dangerous pursuit of the grisly truth. Download or read book Stone Cold Souls written by Gregory K. Moffatt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-07-30 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History's most notorious and brutal killers still enjoy fame as public fascination with their lives and their crimes continues to grow. Stone Cold Souls is a detailed examination of the most brutal killers in history. Moffatt does what he does best by looking at historical accounts of events, analyzing them from a psychological perspective, and presenting his assessment in captivating fashion. He examines different types of killers, offers case studies and historical context, and describes what sets these cases apart from other kinds of killings. Even in a day and age where pop culture has made serial crime a mainstay of movies and books, the depravity of the killers profiled in this work will still shock even a desensitized reader. Men, women, and children alike have committed crimes so atrocious that it is hard to imagine that these events are not works of fiction. Moffatt examines the difficult questions that inevitably arise when one reads cases of unthinkable torture and cruelty. Why? Were these people simply evil or is it possible that, given other circumstances, they could have redirected their energies into more productive outlets? The author answers these questions and others and reveals the lives and crimes of these ruthless killers. Stone Cold Souls features such well-known cases as: Andrei Chikatilo, Marc Dutroux, Herman Webster Mudgett, Charles Ng, Leonard Lake, Lawrence Bittaker, Roy Norris, Ed Gein, Edmund Kemper, Henry Lee Lucas, Gilles de Rais, Ivan the Terrible, Richard Ramirez, Holly Ann Harvey, Sandy Ketchum, Mary Bell, Jesse Pomeroy, Josef Mengele, Marshall Applewhite, Jeffrey Lundgren, David Koresh, Jim Jones, Father Oliver O'Grady, Charles Cullin, Harold Shipman, Michael Swango, Myra Hindley, Karla Homolka, Aileen Carol Lee Wuornos, Elizabeth Bathory, Charles Sobhraj, Albert Fish, Donald Harvey, and Dennis Rader.

Book Stone Cold Tea

Download or read book Stone Cold Tea written by Winn Bray Rathbun and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-04-05 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Stone Cold Tea, a beautifully rendered creative non-fiction memoir, Winn Bray Rathbun takes us from early childhood in small-town Welland, Ontario, where she was the youngest in a working-class family of six, to her growing awareness much later in life that her siblings’ perceptions and recollections of family life were surprisingly different from her own. As young children, Winn and her adored older sister, Jayne, enjoy a carefree existence within the shelter of their loving parents and older brothers, Jim and Paul. When their father dies while Winn and Jayne are still very young, their mother, Cathy, struggles to find financial and emotional equilibrium. As the fissures in Cathy’s fragile mental health deepen, she frequently withdraws to a place only she can go, leaving Rathbun to wonder, “What did we really know about our mother? Where did that thick river of Alzheimer’s take her?” With insight, compassion, and wit, Rathbun attempts to find some answers by weaving an imagined account of her mother’s memories, gleaned from both long conversations over countless pots of tea and Cathy’s own writings, into the narrative of her own life. This is a book that will resonate not only with those who have witnessed a loved one’s descent into Alzheimer’s, but with anyone who ponders their own family’s dynamics, secrets, questions, misunderstandings, and ties that bind.
