Book Stochastic Inequalities and Applications

Download or read book Stochastic Inequalities and Applications written by Evariste Giné and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concentration inequalities, which express the fact that certain complicated random variables are almost constant, have proven of utmost importance in many areas of probability and statistics. This volume contains refined versions of these inequalities, and their relationship to many applications particularly in stochastic analysis. The broad range and the high quality of the contributions make this book highly attractive for graduates, postgraduates and researchers in the above areas.

Book Stochastic Orders and Applications

Download or read book Stochastic Orders and Applications written by Karl Mosler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bibliography on stochastic orderings. Was there a real need for it? In a time of reference databases as the MathSci or the Science Citation Index or the Social Science Citation Index the answer seems to be negative. The reason we think that this bibliog raphy might be of some use stems from the frustration that we, as workers in the field, have often experienced by finding similar results being discovered and proved over and over in different journals of different disciplines with different levels of mathematical so phistication and accuracy and most of the times without cross references. Of course it would be very unfair to blame an economist, say, for not knowing a result in mathematical physics, or vice versa, especially when the problems and the languages are so far apart that it is often difficult to recognize the analogies even after further scrutiny. We hope that collecting the references on this topic, regardless of the area of application, will be of some help, at least to pinpoint the problem. We use the term stochastic ordering in a broad sense to denote any ordering relation on a space of probability measures. Questions that can be related to the idea of stochastic orderings are as old as probability itself. Think for instance of the problem of comparing two gambles in order to decide which one is more favorable.

Book Probability Inequalities in Multivariate Distributions

Download or read book Probability Inequalities in Multivariate Distributions written by Y. L. Tong and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probability Inequalities in Multivariate Distributions is a comprehensive treatment of probability inequalities in multivariate distributions, balancing the treatment between theory and applications. The book is concerned only with those inequalities that are of types T1-T5. The conditions for such inequalities range from very specific to very general. Comprised of eight chapters, this volume begins by presenting a classification of probability inequalities, followed by a discussion on inequalities for multivariate normal distribution as well as their dependence on correlation coefficients. The reader is then introduced to inequalities for other well-known distributions, including the multivariate distributions of t, chi-square, and F; inequalities for a class of symmetric unimodal distributions and for a certain class of random variables that are positively dependent by association or by mixture; and inequalities obtainable through the mathematical tool of majorization and weak majorization. The book also describes some distribution-free inequalities before concluding with an overview of their applications in simultaneous confidence regions, hypothesis testing, multiple decision problems, and reliability and life testing. This monograph is intended for mathematicians, statisticians, students, and those who are primarily interested in inequalities.

Book Discrete Stochastic Models and Applications for Reliability Engineering and Statistical Quality Control

Download or read book Discrete Stochastic Models and Applications for Reliability Engineering and Statistical Quality Control written by Serkan Eryilmaz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-07 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discrete stochastic models are tools that allow us to understand, control, and optimize engineering systems and processes. This book provides real-life examples and illustrations of models in reliability engineering and statistical quality control and establishes a connection between the theoretical framework and their engineering applications. The book describes discrete stochastic models along with real-life examples and explores not only well-known models, but also comparatively lesser known ones. It includes definitions, concepts, and methods with a clear understanding of their use in reliability engineering and statistical quality control fields. Also covered are the recent advances and established connections between the theoretical framework of discrete stochastic models and their engineering applications. An ideal reference for researchers in academia and graduate students working in the fields of operations research, reliability engineering, quality control, and probability and statistics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A step-by-step manual on the application of permutation tests in biology, business, medicine, science, and engineering. Its intuitive and informal style make it ideal for students and researchers, whether experienced or coming to these resampling methods for the first time. The real-world problems of missing and censored data, multiple comparisons, nonresponders, after-the-fact covariates, and outliers are all dealt with at length. This new edition has more than 100 additional pages, and includes streamlined statistics for the k-sample comparison and analysis of variance plus expanded sections on computational techniques, multiple comparisons, multiple regression, comparing variances, and testing interactions in balanced designs. The comprehensive author and subject indexes, plus an expert-system guide to methods, provide for further ease of use, while the exercises at the end of every chapter have been supplemented with drills and a number of graduate-level thesis problems.
