Book Continuation of Research on Multiparameter Stochastic Processes

Download or read book Continuation of Research on Multiparameter Stochastic Processes written by E. Wong and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To study Markov processes with a multidimensional parameter necessitates the introduction of generalized processes that can be localized to surfaces. A vehicle for dealing with these is stochastic cochains, processes parameterized by k-dimensional surfaces in n-dimensional surface. The principal result of this project has been the development of a theory of stochastic cochains. (Author).

Book Topics in Spatial Stochastic Processes

Download or read book Topics in Spatial Stochastic Processes written by Vincenzo Capasso and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of stochastic processes indexed by a partially ordered set has been the subject of much research over the past twenty years. The objective of this CIME International Summer School was to bring to a large audience of young probabilists the general theory of spatial processes, including the theory of set-indexed martingales and to present the different branches of applications of this theory, including stochastic geometry, spatial statistics, empirical processes, spatial estimators and survival analysis. This theory has a broad variety of applications in environmental sciences, social sciences, structure of material and image analysis. In this volume, the reader will find different approaches which foster the development of tools to modelling the spatial aspects of stochastic problems.

Book Stochastic Processes with Applications

Download or read book Stochastic Processes with Applications written by Rabi N. Bhattacharya and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2009-08-27 with total page 726 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops systematically and rigorously, yet in an expository and lively manner, the evolution of general random processes and their large time properties such as transience, recurrence, and convergence to steady states. The emphasis is on the most important classes of these processes from the viewpoint of theory as well as applications, namely, Markov processes. The book features very broad coverage of the most applicable aspects of stochastic processes, including sufficient material for self-contained courses on random walks in one and multiple dimensions; Markov chains in discrete and continuous times, including birth-death processes; Brownian motion and diffusions; stochastic optimization; and stochastic differential equations. This book is for graduate students in mathematics, statistics, science and engineering, and it may also be used as a reference by professionals in diverse fields whose work involves the application of probability.

Book Stochastic Processes General Theory

Download or read book Stochastic Processes General Theory written by Malempati M. Rao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stochastic Processes: General Theory starts with the fundamental existence theorem of Kolmogorov, together with several of its extensions to stochastic processes. It treats the function theoretical aspects of processes and includes an extended account of martingales and their generalizations. Various compositions of (quasi- or semi-)martingales and their integrals are given. Here the Bochner boundedness principle plays a unifying role: a unique feature of the book. Applications to higher order stochastic differential equations and their special features are presented in detail. Stochastic processes in a manifold and multiparameter stochastic analysis are also discussed. Each of the seven chapters includes complements, exercises and extensive references: many avenues of research are suggested. The book is a completely revised and enlarged version of the author's Stochastic Processes and Integration (Noordhoff, 1979). The new title reflects the content and generality of the extensive amount of new material. Audience: Suitable as a text/reference for second year graduate classes and seminars. A knowledge of real analysis, including Lebesgue integration, is a prerequisite.

Book Essentials of Stochastic Processes

Download or read book Essentials of Stochastic Processes written by Richard Durrett and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-07 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building upon the previous editions, this textbook is a first course in stochastic processes taken by undergraduate and graduate students (MS and PhD students from math, statistics, economics, computer science, engineering, and finance departments) who have had a course in probability theory. It covers Markov chains in discrete and continuous time, Poisson processes, renewal processes, martingales, and option pricing. One can only learn a subject by seeing it in action, so there are a large number of examples and more than 300 carefully chosen exercises to deepen the reader’s understanding. Drawing from teaching experience and student feedback, there are many new examples and problems with solutions that use TI-83 to eliminate the tedious details of solving linear equations by hand, and the collection of exercises is much improved, with many more biological examples. Originally included in previous editions, material too advanced for this first course in stochastic processes has been eliminated while treatment of other topics useful for applications has been expanded. In addition, the ordering of topics has been improved; for example, the difficult subject of martingales is delayed until its usefulness can be applied in the treatment of mathematical finance.

Book Multidimensional Stochastic Processes as Rough Paths

Download or read book Multidimensional Stochastic Processes as Rough Paths written by Peter K. Friz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-02-04 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rough path analysis provides a fresh perspective on Ito's important theory of stochastic differential equations. Key theorems of modern stochastic analysis (existence and limit theorems for stochastic flows, Freidlin-Wentzell theory, the Stroock-Varadhan support description) can be obtained with dramatic simplifications. Classical approximation results and their limitations (Wong-Zakai, McShane's counterexample) receive 'obvious' rough path explanations. Evidence is building that rough paths will play an important role in the future analysis of stochastic partial differential equations and the authors include some first results in this direction. They also emphasize interactions with other parts of mathematics, including Caratheodory geometry, Dirichlet forms and Malliavin calculus. Based on successful courses at the graduate level, this up-to-date introduction presents the theory of rough paths and its applications to stochastic analysis. Examples, explanations and exercises make the book accessible to graduate students and researchers from a variety of fields.

Book Models of Random Processes

Download or read book Models of Random Processes written by Igor N. Kovalenko and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-07-08 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devising and investigating random processes that describe mathematical models of phenomena is a major aspect of probability theory applications. Stochastic methods have penetrated into an unimaginably wide scope of problems encountered by researchers who need stochastic methods to solve problems and further their studies. This handbook supplies the knowledge you need on the modern theory of random processes. Packed with methods, Models of Random Processes: A Handbook for Mathematicians and Engineers presents definitions and properties on such widespread processes as Poisson, Markov, semi-Markov, Gaussian, and branching processes, and on special processes such as cluster, self-exiting, double stochastic Poisson, Gauss-Poisson, and extremal processes occurring in a variety of different practical problems. The handbook is based on an axiomatic definition of probability space, with strict definitions and constructions of random processes. Emphasis is placed on the constructive definition of each class of random processes, so that a process is explicitly defined by a sequence of independent random variables and can easily be implemented into the modelling. Models of Random Processes: A Handbook for Mathematicians and Engineers will be useful to researchers, engineers, postgraduate students and teachers in the fields of mathematics, physics, engineering, operations research, system analysis, econometrics, and many others.

Download or read book Stochastic Processes written by J. Lamperti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of lectures which I gave dur ing the academic year 1972-73 to third-year students a~ Aarhus University in Denmark. The purpose of the book, as of the lectures, is to survey some of the main themes in the modern theory of stochastic processes. In my previous book Probability: ! survey of the mathe matical theory I gave a short overview of "classical" proba bility mathematics, concentrating especially on sums of inde pendent random variables. I did not discuss specific appli cations of the theory; I did strive for a spirit friendly to application by coming to grips as fast as I could with the major problems and techniques and by avoiding too high levels of abstraction and completeness. At the same time, I tried to make the proofs both rigorous and motivated and to show how certain results have evolved rather than just presenting them in polished final form. The same remarks apply to this book, at least as a statement of intentions, and it can serve as a sequel to the earlier one continuing the story in the same style and spirit. The contents of the present book fall roughly into two parts. The first deals mostly with stationary processes, which provide the mathematics for describing phenomena in a steady state overall but subject to random fluctuations. Chapter 4 is the heart of this part.

Book A First Course in Stochastic Processes

Download or read book A First Course in Stochastic Processes written by Samuel Karlin and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A First Course in Stochastic Processes focuses on several principal areas of stochastic processes and the diversity of applications of stochastic processes, including Markov chains, Brownian motion, and Poisson processes. The publication first takes a look at the elements of stochastic processes, Markov chains, and the basic limit theorem of Markov chains and applications. Discussions focus on criteria for recurrence, absorption probabilities, discrete renewal equation, classification of states of a Markov chain, and review of basic terminologies and properties of random variables and distribution functions. The text then examines algebraic methods in Markov chains and ratio theorems of transition probabilities and applications. The manuscript elaborates on the sums of independent random variables as a Markov chain, classical examples of continuous time Markov chains, and continuous time Markov chains. Topics include differentiability properties of transition probabilities, birth and death processes with absorbing states, general pure birth processes and Poisson processes, and recurrence properties of sums of independent random variables. The book then ponders on Brownian motion, compounding stochastic processes, and deterministic and stochastic genetic and ecological processes. The publication is a valuable source of information for readers interested in stochastic processes.

Book Statistical Inference and Related Topics

Download or read book Statistical Inference and Related Topics written by Madan Lal Puri and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical Inference and Related Topics, Volume 2 presents the proceedings of the Summer Research Institute on Statistical Inference for Stochastic Processes, held in Bloomingdale, Indiana on July 31 to August 9, 1975. This book focuses on the theory of statistical inference for stochastic processes. Organized into 15 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the case of continuous distributions with one real parameter. This text then reviews some results for multidimensional empirical processes and Brownian sheets when they are indexed by families of sets. Other chapters consider a class of cubic spline estimators of probability density functions over a finite interval. This book discusses as well the method to construct nonelimination type sequential procedures to select a subset containing all the superior populations. The final chapter deals with Markov sequences, which are among the most interesting available for study with a rich theory and varied applications. This book is a valuable resource for graduate students and research workers.

Book An Introduction to Stochastic Modeling

Download or read book An Introduction to Stochastic Modeling written by Howard M. Taylor and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Stochastic Modeling provides information pertinent to the standard concepts and methods of stochastic modeling. This book presents the rich diversity of applications of stochastic processes in the sciences. Organized into nine chapters, this book begins with an overview of diverse types of stochastic models, which predicts a set of possible outcomes weighed by their likelihoods or probabilities. This text then provides exercises in the applications of simple stochastic analysis to appropriate problems. Other chapters consider the study of general functions of independent, identically distributed, nonnegative random variables representing the successive intervals between renewals. This book discusses as well the numerous examples of Markov branching processes that arise naturally in various scientific disciplines. The final chapter deals with queueing models, which aid the design process by predicting system performance. This book is a valuable resource for students of engineering and management science. Engineers will also find this book useful.

Book Filtering for Stochastic Processes with Applications to Guidance

This book was released on 2005 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition preserves the original text of 1968, with clarification and added references. From the Preface to the Second Edition: ``Since the First Edition of this book, numerous important results have appeared--in particular stochastic integrals with respect to martingales, random fields, Riccati equation theory and realization of nonlinear filters, to name a few. In Appendix D, an attempt is made to provide some of the references that the authors have found useful and tocomment on the relation of the cited references to the field ... [W]e hope that this new edition will have the effect of hastening the day when the nonlinear filter will enjoy the same popularity in applications as the linear filter does now.''
