Book Stochastic Models for Production Inventory Planning

Download or read book Stochastic Models for Production Inventory Planning written by Ali Cheaitou and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Supply Chain Management domain, the main source of randomness is the future demand. The influence of this demand variabilityon the performance of the Supply Chain is very important: for example, in 2007 the global inventory shortage rate in the retail industrywere around 8.3%. On the other hand, in 2003 the global Unsaleable products cost around 1% in the grocery industry. These two types ofcosts, which are mainly caused by the uncertainty of the future demand, represent important lost for the whole Supply Chain actors. This Ph.D. dissertation aims at developing mathematical production planning and inventory management models, which take intoconsideration the randomness of the future demand in order to reduce its economic negative impact, essentially for short life cycleproducts. We provide many planning models that consider the main issues of the planning problems, such as the production capacities, the information updating processes, the supply contracts and the advanced capacity reservation in a total costs minimization context. Weconsider in these models some aspects that are not considered in the literature, such as the "Payback" or the return options. Weemphasize also on an important issue that characterize the globalization of the industry, which may be resumed in the difference betweenthe procurement costs of the different suppliers. This issue is considered in the most chapters presenting models for short life cycleproducts and in the last chapter it is generalized to a long life cycle products setting. All the presented models are solved eitheranalytically or numerically using the dynamic stochastic programming.

Book Stochastic Modeling of Manufacturing Systems

Download or read book Stochastic Modeling of Manufacturing Systems written by George Liberopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-12 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing systems rarely perform exactly as expected and predicted. Unexpected events, such as order changes, equipment failures and product defects, affect the performance of the system and complicate decision-making. This volume is devoted to the development of analytical methods aiming at responding to variability in a way that limits its corrupting effects on system performance. The book includes fifteen novel chapters that mostly focus on the development and analysis of performance evaluation models of manufacturing systems using decomposition-based methods, Markovian and queuing analysis, simulation, and inventory control approaches. They are organized into four distinct sections to reflect their shared viewpoints: factory design, unreliable production lines, queuing network models, production planning and assembly.

Book Stochastic Modeling and Optimization of Manufacturing Systems and Supply Chains

Download or read book Stochastic Modeling and Optimization of Manufacturing Systems and Supply Chains written by J. George Shanthikumar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume originates from two workshops, both focusing on themes that are reflected in the title of the volume. The first workshop took place at Eindhoven University of Technology, April 24-26, 2001, on the occasion of the University granting a doctorate honoris causa to Profes sor John A. Buzacott. The second workshop was held on June 15, 2002 at Cornell University (preceding the annual INFORMSjMSOM Confer ence), honoring John's retirement and his lifetime contributions. Each of the two workshops consisted of about a dozen technical presentations. The objective of the volume, however, is not to simply publish the proceedings of the two workshops. Rather, our objective is to put to gether a select set of articles, each organized into a well-written chapter, focusing on a timely topic. Collected into a single volume, these chapters aim to serve as a useful reference for researchers and practitioners alike, and also as reading materials for graduate courses or seminars.

This book was released on 2013-05-17 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook surveys important stochastic problems and models in manufacturing system operations and their stochastic analysis. Using analytical models to design and control manufacturing systems and their operations entail critical stochastic performance analysis as well as integrated optimization models of these systems. Topics deal with the areas of facilities planning, transportation, and material handling systems, logistics and supply chain management, and integrated productivity and quality models covering: • Stochastic modeling and analysis of manufacturing systems • Design, analysis, and optimization of manufacturing systems • Facilities planning, transportation, and material handling systems analysis • Production planning, scheduling systems, management, and control • Analytical approaches to logistics and supply chain management • Integrated productivity and quality models, and their analysis • Literature surveys of issues relevant in manufacturing systems • Case studies of manufacturing system operations and analysis Today’s manufacturing system operations are becoming increasingly complex. Advanced knowledge of best practices for treating these problems is not always well known. The purpose of the book is to create a foundation for the development of stochastic models and their analysis in manufacturing system operations. Given the handbook nature of the volume, introducing basic principles, concepts, and algorithms for treating these problems and their solutions is the main intent of this handbook. Readers unfamiliar with these research areas will be able to find a research foundation for studying these problems and systems.

Book Capacity and Inventory Planning for Make to Order Production Systems

Download or read book Capacity and Inventory Planning for Make to Order Production Systems written by Klaus Altendorfer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-31 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents different models for the simultaneous optimization problem of capacity investment and work release rule parameterization. The overall costs are minimized either including backorder costs or considering a service level constraint. The available literature is extended with the integration of a distributed customer required lead time in addition to the actual demand distribution. Furthermore, an endogenous production lead time is introduced. Different models for make-to-order production systems with one or multiple serial processing stages are developed. Capacity investment is linked to the processing rates of the machines or to the number of the machines. Results are equations for service level, tardiness, and FGI lead time in such a production system. For special cases with M/M/1 and M/M/s queues explicit solutions of the optimization problems or optimality conditions concerning capacity investment and work release rule parameterization are provided.

Abstract: Abstract of thesis entitled STOCHASTIC MODELS FOR INVENTORY SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS Submitted by TAI Hoi-Lun Allen for the degree of Master of Philosophy at The University of Hong Kong in July 2006 In managing an inventory system, constructing optimal ordering policy for replenishment is an important issue. In studying a social network, one major concern is the identification of certain prestigious members in it. In this thesis, some stochastic models were proposed for the captured problems in these top- ics. Numerical examples were also given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed models. Renewal theory is a useful tool for system performance analysis. Here a sto- chasticmodelformachinereplacementsystemwasgiventoillustratetheconcept of renewal theory. A comparison between the quantity-based replacement pol- icy and the time-based replacement policy in a single machine system was also studied. These two policies are popular in inventory management. Recyclingofusedproductsisahotissueasthereisarisingconcernabouten- vironmentalprotection. Italsofavorscostreduction. Meanwhile, sincecustomers are usually scattered over a large regional area, a network of local warehouses for inventory of products and handling of returns is necessary to maintain a high service level. To further enhance the customer service level, Lateral Transship- ment(LT)isoftenallowedamongthelocalwarehouses. Bysharingtheinventory at the local warehouses, substantial savings can also be realized. In this thesis, a Markovian model was proposed to model a two-echelon inventory and return system. The system consisted of a supply plant, a central warehouse and several local warehouses. The local warehouses were capable of re-manufacturing used products and LT was also allowed in the system. In a Vendor-managed Inventory (VMI) system, the supplier is authorized to coordinate the inventories at the retailers level. The advantage of VMI is that the bullwhip effect can be minimized and the stock-out situations can also be reduced. Moreover, it provides a framework for synchronizing transportation decisions and hence reduces the transportation cost significantly. Here some sto- chastic models for a VMI system were built to analyze two dispatching policies, namely the quantity-based dispatching policy and the time-based dispatching policy. The long-run average costs for both policies were derived by using re- newal theory. The extension to the model of quantity-time-based dispatching policy was also discussed. The computation of prestige is an important issue in studying a social net- work. Anumberofeigenvector-likemethodshavebeenproposedforthemeasure- ment of prestige of both symmetric and asymmetric networks. The PageRank algorithm has been successfully applied in the computation of ranking of web- pages and data mining in the Internet. In this thesis, it was modified for the computation of the prestige of general social networks when negative relations were introduced. Book Management of Stochastic Demand in Make to Stock Manufacturing

Download or read book Management of Stochastic Demand in Make to Stock Manufacturing written by Rainer Quante and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Up to now, demand fulfillment in make-to-stock manufacturing is usually handled by advanced planning systems. Orders are fulfilled on the basis of simple rules or deterministic planning approaches not taking into account demand fluctuations. The consideration of different customer classes as it is often done today requires more sophisticated approaches explicitly considering stochastic influences. This book reviews current literature, presents a framework that addresses revenue management and demand fulfillment at once and introduces new stochastic approaches for demand fulfillment in make-to-stock manufacturing based on the ideas of the revenue management literature.
