Book Stochastic Methods in Engineering

Download or read book Stochastic Methods in Engineering written by I. St Doltsinis and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing industrial demand for reliable quantification and management of uncertainty in product performance forces engineers to employ probabilistic models in analysis and design, a fact that has occasioned considerable research and development activities in the field. Notes on Stochastics eventually address the topic of computational stochastic mechanics. The single volume uniquely presents tutorials on essential probabilistics and statistics, recent finite element methods for stochastic analysis by Taylor series expansion as well as Monte Carlo simulation techniques. Design improvement and robust optimisation represent key issues as does reliability assessment. The subject is developed for solids and structures of elastic and elasto-plastic material, large displacements and material deformation processes; principles are transferable to various disciplines. A chapter is devoted to the statistical comparison of systems exhibiting random scatter. Where appropriate examples illustrate the theory, problems to solve appear instructive; applications are presented with relevance to engineering practice. The book, emanating from a university course, includes research and development in the field of computational stochastic analysis and optimization. It is intended for advanced students in engineering and for professionals who wish to extend their knowledge and skills in computational mechanics to the domain of stochastics. Contents: Introduction, Randomness, Structural analysis by Taylor series expansion, Design optimization, Robustness, Monte Carlo techniques for system response and design improvement, Reliability, Time variant phenomena, Material deformation processes, Analysis and comparison of data sets, Probability distribution of test functions.

Book Advanced Computational Techniques for the Design of Deformation Processes

Download or read book Advanced Computational Techniques for the Design of Deformation Processes written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this work is to develop a continuum sensitivity finite element analysis for the robust design of multi-stage metal forming processes in aircraft manufacturing. The computational forming design simulator being developed is applied to industrial forming design and provides the means to select the sequence of deformation processes, design the dies and preforms for each process stage as well as the process conditions such that a product is obtained with desired shape and microstructure and with the minimum material utilization and overall cost. The initial selection of the various processing stages are done a-priori and through the use of classification schemes operating on a digital materials and process library. This virtual process laboratory will assist the aircraft manufacturing industry in reducing time for process and product development, in trimming the cost of an extensive experimental process development effort and in developing processes for tailored material properties.

Book Discretization Methods and Structural Optimization Procedures and Applications

Download or read book Discretization Methods and Structural Optimization Procedures and Applications written by Hans A. Eschenauer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the Finite Element Methods FEM were more and more employed in development and design departments as very fast working tools in order to determine stresses, deformations, eigenfrequencies etc. for all kinds of constructions under complex loading conditions. Meanwhile. very effective software systems have been developed by various research teams although some mathematical problems (e. g. convergence) have not been solved satisfac torily yet. In order to make further advances and to find a common language between mathe maticians and mechanicians the "Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics" (GAMM) agreed on the foundation of a special Committee: "Discretization Methods in Solid Mechanics" focussing on the following problems: - Structuring of various methods (displacement functions, hybrid and mixed approaches, etc. >, - Survey of approach functions (Lagrange-/Hermite-polynominals, Spline-functions), - Description of singularities, - Convergence and stability, - Practical and theoretical optimality to all mentioned issues (single and interacting). One of the basic aims of the GAMM-Committee is the interdisciplinary cooperation between mechanicians, mathematicians, and users which shall be intensified. Thus, on September 22, 1985 the committee decided to hold a seminar on "Structural Optimization" in order to allow an exchange of experiences and thoughts between the experts of finite element methods and those of structural optimization. A GAMM-seminar entitled "Discretization Methods and Structural Optimization - Procedures and Applications" was hold on October 5-7, 1988 at the Unversity of Siegen.
