Book A Gift That Changed the World

Download or read book A Gift That Changed the World written by Dr. Ronald Kovack and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about charitable giving and stewardship. It is a resource book for churches and their leadership as well as the average church member. In it, the author addresses the age-old question: did Jesus or the New Testament teach tithing? How much are we instructed to give in today's world? Are we to give from the gross or our net income? While doing the research for this book, the author makes a remarkable and heretofore silent conclusion. By using a cause-and-effect analysis, the writer postulates that the gift of the Corinthian church was used by God to facilitate every major spiritual awakening or revival throughout history. From Augustine, Calvin, Luther, Wesley, and many others who championed revivals, the Corinthian gift, via a cause-and-effect link, changed the course of church history. Revitalize your church giving and expand its mission and ministry using the same concepts. By applying the lessons of the past from the Corinthians to modern-day stewardship, the reader's view of giving will never be the same. In addition, Dr. Kovack shares secrets of church management that everyone in church administration will want, such as the charitable gift annuity and the charitable remainder trust, which are also explained in this book. Whether it is regular weekly giving or a capital campaign to build an addition, the principles and insights in this book are a valuable resource.

Book Stewardship in African American Churches

Download or read book Stewardship in African American Churches written by Melvin Amerson and published by Upper Room Books. This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When the church embraces the responsibility of living as faith managers of God's vast resources [as Psalm 24:1 teaches], the community of faith will prosper." So begins this practical and theological study of stewardship, both in the context of the African-American church tradition and beyond. After all, a systematic approach to stewardship undergirds the ministry and mission of the church universal. A stewardship consultant, Amerson draws upon his experience to help churches develop a theology of generosity; define stewardship leadership roles; celebrate the offering each week; and establish endowment giving. While recognizing still-relevant traditions, he also points to newer tactics and strategies convenient to both members and congregations—including electronic giving, contribution statements, and year-end giving. A highlight of the book is Amerson's explanation of the development of a narrative budget/narrative spending plan. He also writes about stewardship education at multiple levels. This book is a solid resource for financial stewardship education.

Download or read book SPR Reading of Luke Acts written by Stephen Moon and published by . This book was released on 2013-08-02 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Pentateuch, we find a unique theological principle called Separation, Placement and Rest (SPR). This cycle is presented in the context of God's Creation//Exodus dynamic activity. SPR is the major operating theology of the Old and New Testaments. SPR may also serve as an important strategy to enhance stewardship training in local churches. Churches have not yet developed proper theological strategies for encouraging faithful stewardship. Stewardship is, nevertheless, an integral part of Christian discipleship and originated from the very beginning of God's creation. In this postmodern age, churches face many challenges in pursuing God's will. Churches need to utilize innovative strategies now more than ever to raise strong disciples who can faithfully fulfill God's ongoing salvation creation-redemption work in Jesus Christ. As clearly stated in the parables of Jesus and world mission narratives in Luke-Acts, stewardship comprises a major aspect of discipleship; most Christians, however, are not fully informed of its impact in Christian life. Due to the absence of proper study, few pastors and church leaders are comfortable with teaching stewardship in their congregations. As a result, they struggle with their financial matters. The reasons behind this problem are that churches do not have essential resources and strategies for providing stewardship education in pursuit of their goal of converting followers of Jesus into disciples. Also they may misunderstand or resist the idea of tithing, which is also an integral part of spiritual discipline. SPR deals directly and interactively with God's ongoing Creation//Exodus dynamics in our lives. The principles of SPR guide us by means of God's agenda rather than our own. Thus we find ourselves in an ongoing dialogue and deeper relationship with God. SPR transforms ordinary questions into SPR questions, such as, "Am I holy?"; "Where is my place in the Scriptures?"; "Do I have a rest in God?"; and/or "What shall I do?" All these questions are subjective actions that can be applied to the "Separation-Placement-Rest" equation formula in the dynamics of God's "Creation and Exodus": SPRx=C//E. The SPR Bible study of Luke-Acts is a unique paradigm for stewardship, and will benefit church missions and revivals. SPR stewardship goes back to God's original purpose for the creation of man. By studying it, people can become extraordinary, transformational stewards who serve God by pursuing His missions. The challenges in our lives will be resolved and transformed into opportunities if we are able to apply SPR in our lives. Because SPR requires a constant dialogue with God, whoever applies SPR in his or her life will eventually become a faithful steward of Jesus Christ. The SPR reading of Luke-Acts in light of stewardship of churches will encourage and challenge Christian leaders to have useful strategies in their process of planting and managing the house of God, especially in our times of financial and spiritual uncertainty.
