Book Stereoscopic Views of the White Mountains

Download or read book Stereoscopic Views of the White Mountains written by Bruce D. Heald and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than 150 years, the White Mountains have attracted untold numbers of visitors from all over the world. The lofty peaks offer unlimited panoramas--the view from the summit of Mount Washington extends for more than 100 miles in all directions and includes 33 other mountaintops, each with an elevation exceeding 4,000 feet. Framing the Presidential Range are Crawford Notch, Franconia Notch, and Pinkham Notch, three of the most impressive wonders in the eastern part the country. The White Mountain region has numerous other points of interest: the Flume, the Pool, the Basin, the Old Man of the Mountain, Glen Ellis Falls, the Lake of the Clouds, Echo Lake, Profile Lake, and the White Horse Ledge, to name a few. The stereo technique dates from the earliest years of photography. Stereo photographs are two images of the same view taken from slightly different points, which when observed through special glasses appear as one with an added dimension of depth. Photographers took these three-dimensional views to exemplify and to preserve in print the beauty, wonders, and wealth of nature. Stereoscopic Views of the White Mountains contains more than 200 reflective stereos of the region's mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams. These breathtaking views of the landscape, the resorts, and the villages were taken during an excursion on the early railroads. They recall the romance and idealism of the rail and stagecoach era.

Book The architecture of Berlin in a stereoscopic view

Download or read book The architecture of Berlin in a stereoscopic view written by Josef Plank and published by Performance Engineering. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 32 high-res stereo-pairs for “crossed-eyes-viewing“ from the architecture of Berlin S3D Photography by Josef Plank & Siegfried Büker Introduction: „Not without reason, we have the ability to see stereo 3D (S3D). She made us better hunters, made us recognize predators earlier and escape from them. Why should not we use this heritage of hunter-gatherer times today at work, in leisure and entertainment, in short, wherever we visually experience the world?“ James Cameron, Director of “AVATAR” The playback possibilities of stereoscopic recordings (S3D-Content) have improved significantly due to developments in eBook software and display technologies in the 20th of the 21st century. With the standard ePub 3 and KF8 (Kindle Format 8) or also called azw3-Format, illustrated books can be published as electronic books in high quality. This is the first published application of a stereoscopic illustrated book, following research of the author. This version of "The architecture of Berlin in a stereoscopic view" is the version for "crossed-eyes-view". This viewing technique is explained below, along with other viewing techniques. The present version was designed in double page layout in DIN A4. On opening the double page, a DIN A3 image in landscape format is displayed, with the image for the right eye on the left side and the image for the left eye on the right side. The resolution of the images is adapted to the height of UHD displays with 2160p and the images are embedded as lossless .png files. This results in cinema quality in picture height of modern 4k digital cinema projectors. Due to the "book format" and the "crossed-eyes-viewing" the width is less than 4k, that is to say 2 x 1527 pixels = 3054 pixels. As color space, sRGB has been chosen so that the colors are reproduced more or less correctly even in consumer displays. The dynamic (contrast) should be more than 10 f-stops ≙ 2 to the 10th or more than 1:1000), if the display used, can meet this relatively simple requirement. These parameters leave the classic printed illustrated book behind. The quoted values call for a publication as an eBook.

Download or read book Grasping Shadows written by William Chapman Sharpe and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-04 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's in a shadow? Menace, seduction, or salvation? Immaterial but profound, shadows lurk everywhere in literature and the visual arts, signifying everything from the treachery of appearances to the unfathomable power of God. From Plato to Picasso, from Rembrandt to Welles and Warhol, from Lord of the Rings to the latest video game, shadows act as central players in the drama of Western culture. Yet because they work silently, artistic shadows often slip unnoticed past audiences and critics. Conceived as an accessible introduction to this elusive phenomenon, Grasping Shadows is the first book that offers a general theory of how all shadows function in texts and visual media. Arguing that shadow images take shape within a common cultural field where visual and verbal meanings overlap, William Sharpe ranges widely among classic and modern works, revealing the key motifs that link apparently disparate works such as those by Fra Angelico and James Joyce, Clementina Hawarden and Kara Walker, Charles Dickens and Kumi Yamashita. Showing how real-world shadows have shaped the meanings of shadow imagery, Grasping Shadows guides the reader through the techniques used by writers and artists to represent shadows from the Renaissance onward. The last chapter traces how shadows impact the art of the modern city, from Renoir and Zola to film noir and projection systems that capture the shadows of passers-by on streets around the globe. Extending his analysis to contemporary street art, popular songs, billboards, and shadow-theatre, Sharpe demonstrates a practical way to grasp the "dark side" that looms all around us.
