Book Stereochemical Control Bonding and Steric Rearrangements

Download or read book Stereochemical Control Bonding and Steric Rearrangements written by Ivan Bernal and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of this fourth volume in the series have reviewed the making and breaking of chemical bonds in a sophisticated manner. In particular, new pressures brought about by environmental concerns, larger demands for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors and economics of the market place are forcing us into demanding greater stereochemical control and better product yields for chemical reactions capable of producing useful products. The chapters are written by leading experts in this area and give excellent overviews of the strengths and weaknesses of the various methodologies. In Chapter 1 newer discoveries in such tried and true methods of C-C bond formation as alkylations and aldol reactions of metal enolates are reviewed. The author of Chapter 2 discusses the ability of ab-initio methods to justify the results of empirical observations in the field of transition metal derivatives of small molecules such as N2, CO2 and similar small molecules. Having established the strengths and weaknesses of the various approaches to such theoretical calculations, a more interesting approach to these methods is pursued, namely, their ability to predict, in those areas in which they are particularly strong and reliable, chemical and stereochemical events and/or results in advance of experiments, later carried out in the laboratory. Finally, Chapter 3 reviews the stereochemical results of electron transfer reactions in mononuclear copper compounds.

Download or read book Inorganic Stereochemistry written by D. L. Kepert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular stereochemistry is a fundamental aspect of all areas of chemistry. It is especially important in inorganic chemistry where the coordination numbers are variable and occasionally quite high. The present book evolved naturally from a series of articles written by Professor Kepert for Progre88 in Inorganic Ohemi8try, elucida ting aspects of the stereochemistry of inorganic compounds of co ordination numbers 4-12. In the present volume, Professor Kepert has added new sections and synthesized these individual chapters into a unified treatment, updating his references when necessary to the most recent contributions in the literature, and inter weaving the various themes as deemed appropriate. The result is a major contribution, describing the stereochemistry of coordi nation compounds having both unidentate and multidentate ligands. The viability of the repulsion approach to stereochemistry is tested to the limit in this treatise and shown to be an extremely good way of rationalizing a diverse body of data.

Book Principles and Applications of Stereochemistry

Download or read book Principles and Applications of Stereochemistry written by Michael North and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough understanding of stereochemistry is essential for the comprehension of almost all aspects of modern organic chemistry. It is also of great significance in many biochemical and medicinal disciplines, since the stereoisomers of a compound can have dramatically different biological properties. This text explains how the different properties of stereoisomers of a compound arise, and what processes can be used to prepare and analyze stereoisomerically pure compounds. It also presents prominent coverage of the stereochemistry of inorganic and organometallic compounds, which is likely to increase in importance, as these compounds are used as symmetric catalysts in asymmetric synthesis. Modern stereochemical terminology is used throughout, although reference is also made to older terms which are still widely used. A set of problems at the end of each chapter aims to further the reader's understanding of how the content can be applied. The book is designed mainly as a textbook for undergraduate students and as a reference source for more advanced levels, but is also intended for academic and professional organic chemists.

Download or read book Stereochemistry written by M. Nógrádi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stereochemistry: Basic Concepts and Applications is a three-chapter text that introduces the basic principles and concepts of stereochemistry, as well as its application to organic chemistry application. Chapter 1 describes first the stereochemistry of the ground state, specifically the configuration and conformation of organic compounds, as well as the most important methods for its investigation. This chapter also deals with the kinetics of conformational changes and provides an overview of the so-called "applied stereochemistry". Chapter 2 focuses on the analysis of the internal motions of the molecules and of the corresponding activation energies. This chapter also examines the principles of intramolecular symmetry. Chapter 3 considers the stereochemical aspect of several enzymic processes and the stereoisomerism of monotonic polymers and inorganic complexes. This book will be of great value to organic chemists and organic chemistry graduate students.

Book Introduction to Stereochemistry

Download or read book Introduction to Stereochemistry written by Kurt Martin Mislow and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular shape, form, and symmetry play a central role in organic chemistry, and this text presents a brief introduction to the conceptual basis of stereochemistry. Its focus lies in the fundamentals of structural stereochemistry, rather than the dynamic aspects that are more relevant to reaction mechanisms. The three-part treatment deals with structure and symmetry, stereoisomerism, and the separation and configuration of stereoisomers. The first section reviews molecular architecture, relating empirical bonding geometries to the hybridization of the central carbon atom. Students receive a nonrigorous treatment of symmetry elements and point groups, with particular focus on the presence or absence of reflection symmetry. The second section classifies stereoisomers according to symmetry properties and to the nature of their barriers; it also discusses the dependence of optical activity on structure and concludes with an examination of topological isomerism. The third and final section explores the conceptual basis of asymmetric syntheses and kinetic resolutions. Each of the major sections features a series of exercises that reinforce and extend the preceding material, and answers are provided. Preface to the Dover edition. Answers to Exercises. Bibliography. Index.

Book Stereochemical and Stereophysical Behaviour of Macrocycles

Download or read book Stereochemical and Stereophysical Behaviour of Macrocycles written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stereochemical and Stereophysical Behavior of Macrocycles deals with the stereochemical and stereophysical properties of macrocyclic ligands and their coordination compounds. More specifically, the stereochemistry of metallic macrocyclics is discussed, along with the relationship between the thermodynamics and stereochemistry of macrocyclics and cryptates. The stereochemical aspects of the macrocycles of second and third row transition elements are also examined. Comprised of three chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the stereochemistry of metallic macrocyclics as well as their structure, together with the conformation of their chemical rings and the steric effects of their coordination geometry. The next chapter considers the relationship between the thermodynamics and stereochemistry of macrocyclics and cryptates, with particular reference to the macrocyclic and cryptate effect. Cation-ligand interactions and solvent effects upon complex formation are described, along with macrocyclic and macrobicyclic ligands having different donor atoms. The final chapter is devoted to the stereochemical aspects of the macrocycles of transition metal ions, with additional comments on the stereochemistry of copper and nickel in unusual oxidation states. This book will be of interest to inorganic chemists.
