Book Financial Fitness for Life

Download or read book Financial Fitness for Life written by John E. Clow and published by Council for Economic Educat. This book was released on 2001 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing financial fitness requires developing a knowledge base and then applying it. This teacher guide and student workouts package contains 15 lessons from students at grades 3-5, divided into 4 theme areas of earning and income, saving, spending and borrowing, and managing money. The development of knowledge for use in the everyday life of students is a main goal of the lessons in this guide. Besides the fitness focus, the materials are based on the National Council on Economic Education's Voluntary National Content Standards for Economics. Assessment questions are provided at the end of each theme. Nine lessons in the guide are estimated to take one to two class periods, while the other six generally take between two to four class periods. The activities are categorized as those that are suitable for all students at grades 3-5 and those that may be challenging for some students at the 3-5 grade level. All the lessons focus on having students do various activities and think about or reflect upon their actions. The teacher guide provides a lesson description and background, lists equipment needed, and gives student objectives. It includes activity sheets and visuals for the lessons and cross training activities, an integral part of the curriculum. (Contains a language arts matrix, a mathematics matrix, an economics matrix, and a personal finance management guidelines matrix at the beginning of the guide.) (BT)

Book Train Your Way to Financial Fitness

Download or read book Train Your Way to Financial Fitness written by Shannon McLay and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2014-09-09 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After accomplishing her own successful weight loss journey, financial planner Shannon McLay realized that while there are a number of resources available to people who want to become physically fit, there are far fewer for those looking to become financially fit. Many personal finance books tend to put the cart before the horse when it comes to financial planning, prompting McLay to ask, “How can you discuss retirement or investment options, when you don’t have any money to begin with?" Most people don’t even know what financial fitness looks like, let alone how to achieve it. We can measure and weigh ourselves to quantify physical health, but how do we evaluate our financial health? McLay, an advisor who works with individuals everyday on their financial health, has created an innovative quiz to help you learn whether you’re “financially skinny,” financially fat,” or “financially fit.” From there, she provides exercises and advice to help you achieve, or sustain, a financially fit lifestyle. As with physical health and fitness, financial fitness is a goal that anyone can achieve. The journey is very similar: you need a plan and the right tools to accomplish your goals. This book will give you the resources you need along your journey to financial fitness, all you have to do is follow it just like any other training.

Book Getting at the Core of the Common Core with Social Studies

Download or read book Getting at the Core of the Common Core with Social Studies written by Thomas N. Turner and published by IAP. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For social studies teachers reeling from the buffeting of top-down educational reforms, this volume offers answers to questions about dealing with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Each chapter presents and reviews pertinent standards that relate to the social studies. Each chapter also deals with significant topics in the social studies from various social sciences to processes such as inquiry to key skills needed for success in social studies such as analysis and literacy. The most important aspect of these chapters though is the array of adaptable activities that is included in each chapter. Teachers can find practical approaches to dealing with CCSS across the social studies panorama. The multiple authorships of the various chapters mean a variety of perspectives and viewpoints are presented. All of the authors have fought in the trenches of K-12 public education. Their activities reflect this in a way that will be useful to novice or veteran teachers.
