Book excerpt: For several years many of my students have been urgently requesting written information regarding my thoughts on life and the martial arts. They requested it in book form. It all started with one particular Tae Kwon Do student and as several Quiet Storm practitioners began to seek me out on advance ideas, theory and philosophy, they also started training in Aikido on many occasions. As they practiced with the Aikido students that request for written knowledge began to spread to students in my Aikido classes. After giving it serious thought and "trying"to consider the consequences of this action, I began reflecting on my many years of experiences. I started looking through the notes which I had began jotting down dating from about 1973 through the present day. What I thought they wanted was incorrect. I soon came to realize that they didn't want a shortcut. I have always taught that there are no shortcuts. They wanted inspiration, or more to the point, they wanted to know about that which had inspired and guided me. Many students said I was different from anyone else they have ever met and they want to know why. I won't give you a definitive answer here, but I will tell you this: I do not believe "time" exists in the usual sense. Think only of "Now." That's all there is. Thinking that way may make it easier for you to comprehend why I seem different from most other people. I can tell you this; it's all an open secret.

After the better part of a year spent in COVID lockdowns, he was ready to let his hair down at a night club. But the fascinating young woman who he encountered that night left him with something to remember her by: she turned Chaim into a vampire. Soon, Chaim finds himself thrust into a weird underground world of mysticism and enchantment as he navigates life as the newly undead, trying to reconcile his beliefs as an Orthodox Jew with the new reality that has been thrust upon him. He is forced to deal with a lot of change: to his body, to his mind, to his perceptions, to his relationships, and even to his world. He finds himself in parts of the world he had never dreamed of being in, and he finds himself doing things that he had never envisioned being a part of his life. And if he can come to terms with these changes, this mild-mannered young man might just find himself a hero. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management). Book excerpt: When watching the evening news you can be led to believe that most slip and fall claims are bogus and nothing more than a scam designed to fleece business owners and the insurance industry for money. But not all Plaintiffs are scam artists, and not all victims are seeking to cash in on their injury. Falls can affect each of us. The next victim could be your mother, your brother, your spouse or child…and oh yes, even you! The truth of the matter is, each year millions of personal injury lawsuits are filed by victims of a slip, trip and fall accidents, most of which are settled out of court. However, over the past decade there has been a noticeable rise in the average settlement as well as jury verdicts. As an expert witness, Russell J. Kendzior has been retained in more than 700 slip, trip, and fall lawsuits and has now compiled over 50 of his top cases in Floored! Rather than debate the truth behind slip, trip and fall litigation Kendzior sets the record straight and provides the reader with a behind the curtain view of the people filing these lawsuits and the companies being sued. This book is a great resource that explains what can be done to prevent the injury and thus the lawsuit through the eyes of a safety expert and stories of real-world victims.

Book excerpt: CHAPTER 1 "Stand to, you rocket wash!" A harsh, bull-throated roar thundered over the platform of the monorail station at Space Academy and suddenly the lively chatter and laughter of more than a hundred boys was stilled. Tumbling out of the gleaming monorail cars, they froze to quick attention, their eyes turned to the main exit ramp. They saw a short, squat, heavily built man, wearing the scarlet uniform of the enlisted Solar Guard, staring down at them, his fists jammed into his hips and his feet spread wide apart. He stood there a moment, his sharp eyes flicking over the silent clusters, then slowly sauntered down the ramp toward them with a strangely light, catfooted tread. "Form up! Column of fours!" Almost before the echoes of the thunderous voice died down, the scattered groups of boys had formed themselves into four ragged lines along the platform.

Book The Discipline of Leisure

Download or read book The Discipline of Leisure written by Simon Coleman and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The burgeoning social scientific study of tourism has emphasized the effects of the post-industrial economy on travel and place. However, this volume takes some of these issues into a different area of leisure: the spare-time carved out by people as part of their everyday lives - time that is much more intimately juxtaposed with the pressures and influences of work life, and which often involves specific bodily practices associated with hobbies and sports. An important focus of the book is the body as a site of identity formation, experience, and disciplined recreation of the self. Contributors examine the ways rituals, sports, and forms of bodily transformation mediate between contemporary ideologies of freedom, choice and self-control.
