Book New Quests in Stellar Astrophysics II

Download or read book New Quests in Stellar Astrophysics II written by Miguel Chavez Dagostino and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-27 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an up-to-date collection of reviews and contributed articles in the field of ultraviolet astronomy. Its content has been mainly motivated by the recent access to the rest frame UV light of distant red galaxies, gained through large optical facilities. This driveway has derived in a renewed interest on the stars that presumably dominate or have important effects on the integrated UV properties of evolved systems of the nearby and faraway Universe. The topics included in this volume extend from the fresh spectroscopic analyses of high redshift early-type galaxies observed with the 8-10m class telescopes to the fundamental outcomes from various satellites, from the long-lived International Ultraviolet Explorer to current facilities, such as the Galaxy Evolution Explorer. This is one of the few volumes published in recent years devoted to UV astronomical research and the only one dedicated to the properties of evolved stellar populations at these wavelengths. This contemporary panorama will be an invaluable resource in the preparation of the next planned space missions, such as the World Space Observatory and the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope.

Book Theoretical Astrophysics Volume 2 Stars and Stellar Systems

Download or read book Theoretical Astrophysics Volume 2 Stars and Stellar Systems written by T. Padmanabhan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-04-23 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative textbook - the second volume of a comprehensive three-volume course on theoretical astrophysics - deals with stellar physics. Designed to help graduate students and researchers develop an understanding of the key physical processes governing stars and stellar systems, it teaches the fundamentals, and then builds on them to give the reader an in-depth understanding of advanced topics. The book's modular design allows the chapters to be approached individually, yet seamless transitions create a coherent and connected whole. It can be used alone or in conjunction with Volume I, which covers a wide range of astrophysical processes, and the forthcoming Volume III, on galaxies and cosmology. After reviewing the key observational results and nomenclature used in stellar astronomy, the book develops a solid understanding of central concepts including stellar structure and evolution, the physics of stellar remnants, pulsars, binary stars, the sun and planetary systems, interstellar medium and globular clusters. Throughout, the reader's comprehension is developed and tested with more than seventy-five exercises. This indispensable volume provides graduate students with a self-contained introduction to stellar physics, and will allow them to master the material sufficiently to read and engage in research with heightened understanding.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That trees should have been cut down to provide paper for this book was an ecological afIront. From a book review. - Anthony Blond (in the Spectator, 1983) The first modern text on our subject, Structure and Evolution of the Stars, was published over thirty years ago. In it, Martin Schwarzschild described numerical experiments that successfully reproduced most of the observed properties of the majority of stars seen in the sky. He also set the standard for a lucid description of the physics of stellar interiors. Ten years later, in 1968, John P. Cox's tw~volume monograph Principles of Stellar Structure appeared, as did the more specialized text Principles of Stellar Evolution and Nuc1eosynthesis by Donald D. Clayton-and what a difference ten years had made. The field had matured into the basic form that it remains today. The past twenty-plus years have seen this branch of astrophysics flourish and develop into a fundamental pillar of modern astrophysics that addresses an enormous variety of phenomena. In view of this it might seem foolish to offer another text of finite length and expect it to cover any more than a fraction of what should be discussed to make it a thorough and self-contained reference. Well, it doesn't. Our specific aim is to introduce only the fundamentals of stellar astrophysics. You will find little reference here to black holes, millisecond pulsars, and other "sexy" objects.

Book Advances in Stellar Evolution

Download or read book Advances in Stellar Evolution written by Robert T. Rood and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-06-26 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of how stars evolve is central to astrophysics. The basic theory is well established. However, the subject has undergone a renaissance in recent years as powerful computers have become widely available and allowed complex evolutionary models to be developed and compared in great detail with observations from the latest instruments. This timely volume presents the review articles from an international meeting in Elba, Italy, where experts gathered to review how our understanding of stellar evolution has advanced. Topics covered include fundamentals of stellar evolution, star clusters, variable stars, asymptotic giant branch stars, degenerate stars, the evolution of binary stars, and chemical and galactic evolution. Throughout, theory and observation are closely compared. The book also emphasises the critical role stars have on our understanding of how galaxies evolve. In this book we are provided with both the fundamentals and the latest research. In this way, it will provide an invaluable supplement for graduate students, and a timely review for researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read opening chapters here - http: //magicdomebooks.blogspot.com/2019/11/project-stellar-by-roman-prokofiev.html When the shattered fragments of the Black Moon collapsed onto planet Earth, splitting continents apart and flooding them with raging oceans, Darkness descended onto our world. The eruptions of hostile energy from behind the Edge distorted the laws of the physical world, creating new life forms which now threaten to take over the planet. The last remaining vestiges of humankind, too desperate for their own survival, have nothing to offer against their advance. So it's time to activate Incarnation: the last instruction issued by Project Stellar. In a situation when there're not enough living beings to protect planet Earth, the dead fighters will have to rejoin the defenders' ranks.

Book Circumstellar Media in Late Stages of Stellar Evolution

Download or read book Circumstellar Media in Late Stages of Stellar Evolution written by Robin E. S. Clegg and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-08-25 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last throes of their lives, how do low- and high-mass stars interact with their immediate surroundings? How does the circumstellar medium affect the shape of a nebula? How are supernovae effected by a dense medium? And what do we understand of how stellar winds interact with their environments? These and many other exciting issues are addressed in these proceedings, from the 34th Herstmonceux conference, held in Cambridge. Highlights of developments in the field covered in this volume include the latest observational results that show how various types of stellar ejecta differ in shape, and a unified view of the physical processes involved; as well as the latest results on the media around supernovae 1987A and 1993J. This timely volume provides review articles that serve both as an excellent introduction for graduate students, and a handy reference for researchers; and up-to-date research papers for those who want to keep abreast of developments in the field.
