The other has her heart, but he doesn’t know it. As Ally rewinds the last year of her life, she knows two things. One, she’s never going to get what every Rock Chick should have—her own Hot Bunch guy. And two, she’s a Nightingale through and through. She just isn’t sure what to do about it. Book Popular Religion in Russia

Download or read book Popular Religion in Russia written by Stella Rock and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-09-10 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book dispels the widely-held view that paganism survived in Russia alongside Orthodox Christianity, demonstrating that 'double belief', dvoeverie, is in fact an academic myth. Scholars, citing the medieval origins of the term, have often portrayed Russian Christianity as uniquely muddied by paganism, with 'double-believing' Christians consciously or unconsciously preserving pagan traditions even into the twentieth century. This volume shows how the concept of dvoeverie arose with nineteenth-century scholars obsessed with the Russian 'folk' and was perpetuated as a propaganda tool in the Soviet period, colouring our perception of both popular faith in Russian and medieval Russian culture for over a century. It surveys the wide variety of uses of the term from the eleventh to the seventeenth century, and contrasts them to its use in modern historiography, concluding that our modern interpretation of dvoeverie would not have been recognized by medieval clerics, and that 'double-belief' is a modern academic construct. Furthermore, it offers a brief foray into medieval Orthodoxy via the mind of the believer, through the language and literature of the period.

Book Stella and the Rocks

Download or read book Stella and the Rocks written by L. M. H. Dries and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a typical day on the farm, Farmer Bill goes about his chores as usual. He lets the chickens out of the coop and moves on to other things-but a gust of wind slams the coop door shut, trapping three of the Barred Rock chickens inside! The other hens try as hard as they can to free them, but they just can't get the door open. Just as things start to seem hopeless, Stella, a big, black pig who is sunbathing nearby, hears the hens clucking and goes to see what is happening. With her strong snout, Stella is sure she can help. As Stella works to free the trapped chickens, she and the other animals learn important lessons about friendship, teamwork, never giving up, and helping others. This children's tale, with characters based on real farm animals who live together on the Triple L Family Farm in Kennebunkport, Maine, brings their adventures to life.

Book How Stella Got Her Groove Back

Download or read book How Stella Got Her Groove Back written by Terry McMillan and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2004-01-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How Stella Got Her Groove Back is full of Terry McMillan's signature humor, heart, and insight. More than a love story, it is ultimately a novel about how a woman saves her own life—and what she must risk to do it. Stella Payne is forty-two, divorced, a high-powered investment analyst, mother of eleven-year-old Quincy- and she does it all. In fact, if she doesn't do it, it doesn't get done, from Little League carpool duty to analyzing portfolios to folding the laundry and bringing home the bacon. She does it all well, too, if her chic house, personal trainer, BMW, and her loving son are any indication. So what if there's been no one to share her bed with lately, let alone rock her world? Stella doesn't mind it too much; she probably wouldn't have the energy for love—and all of love's nasty fallout—anyway. But when Stella takes a spur-of-the-moment vacation to Jamaica, her world gets rocked to the core—not just by the relaxing effects of the sun and sea and an island full of attractive men, but by one man in particular. He's tall, lean, soft-spoken, Jamaican, smells of citrus and the ocean—and is half her age. The tropics have cast their spell and Stella soon realizes she has come to a cataclysmic juncture: not only must she confront her hopes and fears about love, she must question all of her expectations, passions, and ideas about life and the way she has lived it.
