Book Labor Mobility and the World Economy

Download or read book Labor Mobility and the World Economy written by Federico Foders and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-09-18 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increasing number of landings of illegal migrants on the coast of Italy and Spain, but also the recent riots, car-burnings, and street battles that occurred all across France and that have been attributed to the migrant community, seem to indicate that migration is likely to stay high on the European policy agenda for some time. The flow of migrants from poor to rich countries does not, however, constitute a typically European problem. V. S. public policy has also been facing a continued (legal and illegal) inflow of labor from different regions, notably Mexico and other Latin American countries. And similar developments in other advanced countries (Australia, Canada) as weil as in selected fast-growing emerging markets in Eastern Europe and East Asia imply that these countries too are being compelled to adjust their public policies in order to relieve migratory pressures and deal with their consequences. The world economy already saw rising cross-border labor flows in the 1990s and most forecasts predict that South-North and South-South migration will re main at relatively high levels over the next decades and possibly even turn into a major global challenge for policy makers in the 21st century.

Book Immigrant Entrepreneurship in the U S

Download or read book Immigrant Entrepreneurship in the U S written by Christian D. Knowles and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A better understanding of how immigrants contribute to the U.S. economy is important. Few studies have examined how immigrant entrepreneurs contribute to total U.S. business ownership, formation, and income. This book examines the contributions of immigrant business owners and their businesses to the U.S. economy. The role of immigrants in high-tech entrepreneurship in the U.S. is also quantified. Among other findings, it was determined that nearly 1.5 million immigrant business owners in the U.S. represent 12.5 percent of all business owners. Moreover, the total business income generated by immigrant business owners is $67 billion, 11.6 percent of all business income in the U.S. In addition, although business owners from Mexico constitute the largest share of immigrant business owners, immigrants from around the world are sources of U.S. business formation, ownership and income. These findings indicate that immigrants make large and important contributions to business ownership, formation, and income in the U.S., particularly in some states and economic sectors. This book consists of public documents which have been located, gathered, combined, reformatted, and enhanced with a subject index, selectively edited and bound to provide easy access.

Book Disruptive Classroom Technologies

Download or read book Disruptive Classroom Technologies written by Sonny Magana and published by Corwin Press. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ensure your technological integration is leading to deeper learning! Have we developed, at considerable cost and effort, classrooms that are digitally rich but innovation poor? Timely and powerful, this book offers a new framework to elevate instructional practices with technology and maximize student learning. The T3 Framework helps categorize students’ learning as translational, transformational, or transcendent, sorting through the low-impact applications to reach high-impact usage. Teachers and leaders will find: Examples of technology use at the translational, transformational, and transcendent levels Activities, guides, and prompts for deeper learning Evaluative rubrics to self-assess current technology use, establish meaningful goals, and track progress This guide helps teachers and leaders realize the potential of modern teaching and learning tools to unleash students’ passion for limitless learning. "We need to build collaborative communities of students using the social media aspects of technology to change classroom conversations from monologue to dialogue, increasing student impact questions, and allowing errors. This is the core of Magana’s claims, and how we’ll see technology really make the difference we’re after!" —John Hattie, Laureate Professor, Deputy Dean of MGSE, Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute "Fresh, innovative, and revolutionary, Magana′s T3 Framework promises to challenge the status quo and invite disruptive practices in educational technology." —Yong Zhao Author, World Class Learners "The T3 Framework is a brilliant breakthrough in our understanding and use of technology for learning." —Michael Fullan, Professor Emeritus OISE/University of Toronto, Canada
