Book Steel Industry of the Future

Download or read book Steel Industry of the Future written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a century, the US steel industry has led the global market with advances in technology, product development, and marketing. Industry leaders recognize both the opportunities and challenges they face as they head into the 21st century, and that cooperative R and D is key to their success. In a unique partnership, steel industry leaders have teamed with the US Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) to focus on innovative technologies that will help to strengthen the competitive position of the US steel industry and, at the same time, further important national goals. This industry-led partnership, the Steel Industry of the Future, promotes technologies that optimize the use of energy and materials in operation and reduce wastes and energy-related emissions. Led by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA), industry leaders began by developing a unified vision for the next 20 years: to provide high-quality, value-added products to a wide array of customers in an environmentally friendly, cost-effective manner, while leading the world in innovation and technology. Continued global leadership in materials markets will require the combined resources of industry, universities, and government laboratories. The steel industry vision provided a framework for the next step in the Industries of the Future process, the development of a technology roadmap designed to facilitate collaborative R and D on advanced processes and technologies for the steel industry.

Book The Steel Industry of China

Download or read book The Steel Industry of China written by William Thomas Hogan and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 1999 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China currently produces more crude steel than any other country in the world. This book, by an internationally acknowledged expert on the world steel industry, covers all aspects of the steel industry in China. It begins with an outline of the existing steel plants and smaller mills and describes four major mergers in the industry, which indicate a trend toward the consolidation of smaller plants into larger integrated units. Hogan analyzes the major steel markets--including the automotive industry, shipbuilding, appliances, railroads, construction, containers, and oil and gas--in terms of their recent growth, and examines China's raw-materials output. He presents new technologies being developed and used, and discusses the future of the Chinese steel industry. Hogan successfully argues, using historical and current data (much of it difficult to obtain), that one of the centers of recent Chinese industrial strength is its steel industry, which should be watched carefully. Steel industry analysts and scholars of global industry and economics will find this book invaluable.

Book The Competitive Status of the U S Steel Industry

Download or read book The Competitive Status of the U S Steel Industry written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1985-01-01 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the influences of technology and international trade policies on the troubled U.S. steel industry. Does leadership in technology guarantee competitive advantage in industrial markets? Or do the costs of production and the lack of investment capital offset technological gains for the domestic steel industry? Which international trade policies can help this industry, and which may be harming it? With these and other questions in view, The Competitive Status of the U.S. Steel Industry estimates global trends in steel trade, discusses patterns of production and consumption, and analyzes the possible effects of alternative governmental policies on this critically important industry.

Book excerpt: I study the effects of price transparency by leveraging the introduction of steel futures markets in a difference-in-differences setting. In line with recent theory, producer profit margins, customer material costs, and input cost dispersion within customer industries decrease. Further, the market share of low-cost producers increases. Overall, price transparency appears to foster competition and improve resource allocation, and represents an important real effect of financial markets.

Book The Growing Economy

Download or read book The Growing Economy written by James E. Meade and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1968, this is the second part of Professor Meade’s Principles of Political Economy, which presents a systematic treatment of the whole field of economic analysis in the form of a series of simplified models which are specifically designed to show the interconnections between the various specialist fields of economic theory. In this volume, Professor Meade is concerned with the theory of economic growth and the rates at which various economic quantities are growing. In order to do this, he introduces capital goods into the system and allows for growth through capital accumulation, population expansion and technical progress. His analysis is divided into two models: a one product model and a many-product model.
