Book COSEWIC Assessment and Status Report on the Porsild s Bryum Haplodontium Macrocarpum in Canada

Download or read book COSEWIC Assessment and Status Report on the Porsild s Bryum Haplodontium Macrocarpum in Canada written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This rare moss is patchily distributed and occupies very little area across a large Canadian range. It relies on very specific, rare habitats on shaded calcareous substrates with continuous growing-season moisture. These habitats are threatened by drought, ice scour, storm events, and wildfire, all of which are expected to increase in severity with climate change. Some sites are also subject to threats from recreation and industrial development. Many habitat patches are smaller than would be required to support a viable population. With 19 known locations in eastern, western, and Arctic Canada, the distance between these patches exceeds the likely dispersal distance of the species. Although new colonies have been discovered in Alberta, the species is continuing to show declines and colony losses, especially in Newfoundland and Labrador, which will likely result in further declines"--Assessment Summary - November 2017, p. iii.

Book Measuring and Monitoring Biological Diversity

Download or read book Measuring and Monitoring Biological Diversity written by Ronald Heyer and published by Smithsonian Institution. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measuring and Monitoring Biological Diversity is the first book to provide comprehensive coverage of standard methods for biodiversity sampling of amphibians, with information on analyzing and using data that will interest biologists in general. In this manual, nearly fifty herpetologists recommend ten standard sampling procedures for measuring and monitoring amphibian and many other populations. The contributors discuss each procedure, along with the circumstances for its appropriate use. In addition, they provide a detailed protocol for each procedure's implementation, a list of necessary equipment and personnel, and suggestions for analyzing the data. The data obtained using these standard methods are comparable across sites and through time and, as a result, are extremely useful for making decisions about habitat protection, sustained use, and restoration—decisions that are particularly relevant for threatened amphibian populations.

Book Fiscal Management

Download or read book Fiscal Management written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2005 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accountability of government to citizens is the foundation for good governance. Unfortunately, many developing countries suffer the results of dysfunctional governance systems that fail to provide even minimal levels of vital public services. The key message of the New Institutional Economics is that incentives matter. In the public sphere, the countries' accountability frameworks rewards, sanctions, and measurement of performance shape public sector performance. This book applies this fundamental insight to fiscal/budgetary analysis and public service delivery, giving the reader tools and around the globe examples of institutional arrangements that help citizens hold government accountable for their performance.
