Book Electromagnetic Fields in Cavities

Download or read book Electromagnetic Fields in Cavities written by David A. Hill and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-10-27 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A thorough and rigorous analysis of electromagnetic fields in cavities This book offers a comprehensive analysis of electromagnetic fields in cavities of general shapes and properties. Part One covers classical deterministic methods to conclude resonant frequencies, modal fields, and cavity losses; quality factor; mode bandwidth; and the excitation of cavity fields from arbitrary current distributions for metal-wall cavities of simple shape. Part Two covers modern statistical methods to analyze electrically large cavities of complex shapes and properties. Electromagnetic Fields in Cavities combines rigorous solutions to Maxwell's equations with conservation of energy to solve for the statistics of many quantities of interest: penetration into cavities (and shielding effectiveness), field strengths far from and close to cavity walls, and power received by antennas within cavities. It includes all modes and shows you how to utilize fairly simple statistical formulae to apply to your particular problem, whether it's interference calculations, electromagnetic compatibility testing in reverberation chambers, measurement of shielding materials using multiple cavities, or efficiency of test antennas. Electromagnetic Fields in Cavities is a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, professors, and graduate students in electrical engineering.

Book Statistical Properties of Undulator Radiation

Download or read book Statistical Properties of Undulator Radiation written by Ihar Lobach and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-08 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents significant advances in the understanding of the statistical properties of undulator radiation via two experiments carried out in the Integrable Optics Test Accelerator (IOTA) storage ring at Fermilab. The first experiment studied the turn-to-turn fluctuations in the power of the radiation generated by an electron bunch. The magnitude of these fluctuations depends on the 6D phase-space distribution of the electron bunch. The author presents the most complete theoretical description of this effect to date, and shows that it can be used to measure some electron bunch parameters (e.g. its size and divergence). Remarkably, the performance of this technique improves for smaller bunches and shorter radiation wavelengths and it may, therefore, be particularly beneficial for existing state-of-the-art and next-generation low-emittance high-brightness x-ray synchrotron light sources. In the second experiment, a single electron was stored in the ring, emitting a photon only once per several hundred turns. In this regime, any classical interference-related collective effects were eliminated, and the quantum fluctuations could be studied in detail to search for possible deviations from the expected Poissonian photon statistics. In addition, the photocount arrival times were used to track the longitudinal motion of a single electron and to compare it with simulations. This served as an independent measurement of several dynamical parameters of the storage ring.

Book Collective Effects in Quantum Statistics of Radiation and Matter

Download or read book Collective Effects in Quantum Statistics of Radiation and Matter written by V.N. Popov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Material particles, electrons, atoms, molecules, interact with one another by means of electromagnetic forces. That is, these forces are the cause of their being combined into condensed (liquid or solid) states. In these condensed states, the motion of the particles relative to one another proceeds in orderly fashion; their individual properties as well as the electric and magnetic dipole moments and the radiation and absorption spectra, ordinarily vary little by comparison with their properties in the free state. Exceptiotls are the special so-called collective states of condensed media that are formed under phase transitions of the second kind. The collective states of matter are characterized to a high degree by the micro-ordering that arises as a result of the interaction between the particles and which is broken down by chaotic thermal motion under heating. Examples of such pheonomena are the superfluidity of liquid helium, and the superconductivity and ferromagnetism of metals, which exist only at temperatures below the critical temperature. At low temperature states the particles do not exhibit their individual characteristics and conduct themselves as a single whole in many respects. They flow along capillaries in ordered fashion and create an undamped current in a conductor or a macroscopic magnetic moment. In this regard the material acquires special properties that are not usually inherent to it.

Book Quantum Statistics of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Phenomena

Download or read book Quantum Statistics of Linear and Nonlinear Optical Phenomena written by Jan Perina and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quantum statistical properties of radiation represent an important branch of modern physics with rapidly increasing applications in spectroscopy, quantum generators of radiation, optical communication, etc. They have also an increasing role in fields other than pure physics, such as biophysics, psychophysics, biology, etc. Interesting applications have been developed in high energy elementary particle collisions. The present monograph represents an extension and continuation of the previous monograph by this author entitled Coherence of Light (Van Nostrand Reinhold Company, London 1972, translated into Russian in the Publishing House Mir, Moscow 1974, second edition published by D. Reidel, Dordrecht-Boston 1985) and ofa review chapter in Progress in Optics, Vol. 18 (edited by E. Wolf, North-Holland Publishing Company, Amsterdam 1980) as well. It applies the fundamental tools of the coherent-state technique, as described in Coherence of Light, to particular studies of the quantum statistical properties of radiation interacting with matter. In particular. nonlinear optical processes are considered, and purely quantum phenom ena such as antibunching of photons, their sub-Poisson behaviour and squeezing of vacuum fluctuations are discussed. Compared to the first edition of this book, pub lished in 1984, we have added much more information about squeezing of vacuum fluctuations in nonlinear optical process in this second edition; further we have included the description of experiments and their results performed from that time. Also a new brief chapter on nonlinear dynamics and chaos in quantum statistical optics has been included.
