Book Medical Statistics for Cancer Studies

Download or read book Medical Statistics for Cancer Studies written by Trevor F. Cox and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-23 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cancer is a dreaded disease. One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer within their lifetime. Medical Statistics for Cancer Studies shows how cancer data can be analysed in a variety of ways, covering cancer clinical trial data, epidemiological data, biological data, and genetic data. It gives some background in cancer biology and genetics, followed by detailed overviews of survival analysis, clinical trials, regression analysis, epidemiology, meta-analysis, biomarkers, and cancer informatics. It includes lots of examples using real data from the author’s many years of experience working in a cancer clinical trials unit. Features: A broad and accessible overview of statistical methods in cancer research Necessary background in cancer biology and genetics Details of statistical methodology with minimal algebra Many examples using real data from cancer clinical trials Appendix giving statistics revision.

Book Statistical Methods in Cancer Research

Download or read book Statistical Methods in Cancer Research written by N. E. Breslow and published by Statistical Methods in Cancer. This book was released on 1980 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Together with Volume I, this work provides a comprehensive account of the major types of studies in cancer epidemiology. Its scope ranges from an account of elementary and descriptive cohort analyses to the fitting of regression models for incidence rates with general risk functions. Particular attention is given to the use of a case-control approach embedded in a cohort study. As in the first volume, all methods are illustrated by examples from real studies, and the data are appended to the text, enabling readers to rework the computations.

Book High Dimensional Data Analysis in Cancer Research

Download or read book High Dimensional Data Analysis in Cancer Research written by Xiaochun Li and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-19 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multivariate analysis is a mainstay of statistical tools in the analysis of biomedical data. It concerns with associating data matrices of n rows by p columns, with rows representing samples (or patients) and columns attributes of samples, to some response variables, e.g., patients outcome. Classically, the sample size n is much larger than p, the number of variables. The properties of statistical models have been mostly discussed under the assumption of fixed p and infinite n. The advance of biological sciences and technologies has revolutionized the process of investigations of cancer. The biomedical data collection has become more automatic and more extensive. We are in the era of p as a large fraction of n, and even much larger than n. Take proteomics as an example. Although proteomic techniques have been researched and developed for many decades to identify proteins or peptides uniquely associated with a given disease state, until recently this has been mostly a laborious process, carried out one protein at a time. The advent of high throughput proteome-wide technologies such as liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectroscopy make it possible to generate proteomic signatures that facilitate rapid development of new strategies for proteomics-based detection of disease. This poses new challenges and calls for scalable solutions to the analysis of such high dimensional data. In this volume, we will present the systematic and analytical approaches and strategies from both biostatistics and bioinformatics to the analysis of correlated and high-dimensional data.
