Book Solar climatic Statistical Study

Download or read book Solar climatic Statistical Study written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Solar-Climatic Statistical Study was performed to provide statistical information on the expected future availability of solar and wind power at various nationwide sites. Historic data (SOLMET), at 26 National Weather Service stations reporting hourly solar insolation and collateral meteorological information, were interrogated to provide an estimate of future trends. Solar data are global radiation incident on a horizontal surface, and wind data represent wind power normal to the air flow. Selected insolation and wind power conditions were investigated for their occurrence and persistence, for defined periods of time, on a monthly basis. Information of this nature are intended as an aid to preliminary planning activities for the design and operation of solar and wind energy utilization and conversion systems. Presented in this volume are probability estimates of solar insolation and wind power, alone and in combination, occurring and persisting at or above specified thresholds, for up to one week, for each of the 26 SOLMET stations. Diurnal variations of wind power were also considered. Selected probability data for each station are presented graphically, and comprehensive plots for all stations are provided on a set of microfiche included in a folder in the back of this volume.

Book Solar Radiation Data Forecast and Interpolation Analysis Folder I

Download or read book Solar Radiation Data Forecast and Interpolation Analysis Folder I written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data were evaluated from the rehabilitated 52-station SOLMET solar radiation network. For economic reasons, it is important that solar radiation data measured at a station represent as broad an area within the contiguous United States as possible, and that techniques be established to transform radiation measurements taken on a horizontal surface to what would be seen by an inclined surface. Methods applicable to these problems have been developed. A Climatological Cell Statistics (CCS) Method was developed to obtain the statistics of up to 24 variables occurring in combination with each other using surface meteorological data and to relate these statistics to the solar radiation measurements. A method to evaluate the differences between two insolation data sets, called the Wedge Method, was developed to determine the representative area of a radiation measurement site. These methods were used to evaluate the capabilities of the NOAA Solar Radiation Model to interpolate between measurement sites. Twenty-four methods of calculating solar radiation on inclined surfaces were investigated. All algorithms were rewritten in a common convention and nomenclature and the measurements required for each method were categorized.

Book Improving a Solar Irradiance Model Using Statistical Methods

Download or read book Improving a Solar Irradiance Model Using Statistical Methods written by Alexander Zlatko Traikov and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sun is a very powerful source of energy and has been used since the beginning of the existence of man to survive. Clouds reduce the amount of solar irradiance that travels to the Earth. The Turquoisat model developed by Turquoise Technology Solutions Inc., Montreal, uses satellite imagery to determine the solar irradiance at a given location on the Earth. The total irradiance on a horizontal surface can be divided into two parts: direct irradiance and di use irradiance. These two parts are a ected by clouds di erently. Direct irradiance decreases as there are more clouds while di use irradiance increases. It turns out that the current relationship between cloud cover and solar irradiance depends on the total irradiance. In this thesis, we propose a new methodology using the di erent components of solar irradiance. Fur- thermore, by comparing the Turquoisat model output to solar irradiance values gath- ered from ground stations from across Canada it can be seen that during the morning the Turquoisat model underestimates the solar irradiance that reaches the Earth, and during the evening the model overestimates the solar irradiance. In an attempt to account for the bias in the Turquoisat model, we use a Gaussian process modelling approach to model the discrepancy between the observations from ground stations and the Turquoisat model output. These two adjustments improve the accuracy of the Turquoisat model.
