Book Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Scout Fin with an Enlarged Tip Control at Mach Numbers from 0 40 to 4 63

Download or read book Static Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Scout Fin with an Enlarged Tip Control at Mach Numbers from 0 40 to 4 63 written by Robert J. Keynton and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented of an experimental investigation to determine the static longitudinal aerodynamic characteristics of a fin with an enlarged tip control and the hinge-moment coefficients of the enlarged tip control. The model was tested at angles of attack from -6 [degree] to 6 [degree] and fin tip control deflections from -20° to 20°. A 1/8-scale model of the Scout first stage, with a tangent ogive nose, was used for these tests. Basic data obtained include the pitching-moment, rolling-moment, and normal-force coefficients of the fin and the hinge-moment coefficient of the enlarged tip control.

Kelly and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results were obtained in the Langley 8-foot transonic pressure tunnel at Mach numbers from 0.40 to 1.03 for a 1/10-scale model of the Blue Scout Jr. Tests extended over an angle-of-attack range from about -6 to 6 degrees at a Reynolds number per foot of approximately 4.0 x 10 to the 6th power. Results indicated that the complete configuration exhibited nonlinear variations of normal-force and pitching-moment coefficients with angle of attack which were attributed to the downwash field of the forward fins and its effects on the rear fins. The complete configuration was stable about the test center-of-gravity location which was close to the estimated fullscale-vehicle initial center-of-gravity location. (Author).

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wraparound Fins Mounted on Bodies of Revolution and Rheir Influence on the Missile Static Stability at Mach Numbers from 0 3 to 1 3

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wraparound Fins Mounted on Bodies of Revolution and Rheir Influence on the Missile Static Stability at Mach Numbers from 0 3 to 1 3 written by Calvin Wayne Dahlke and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental aerodynamic investigations were conducted for several wraparound fins and one planar fin configuration on bodies of revolution at Mach number ranging from 0.3 to 1.3 and angles of attack from -6 degrees to 6 degrees at 0 degrees at sideslip angle. Six component aerodynamic forces and moments were recorded on the complete missile configuration while simultaneously measuring the aerodynamic normal force and bending moments acting on each fin. The fin configuration parameters varied include chord length, fin thickness, leading edge configuration, tip chord geometry and body, root chord gap. The report presents the plotted coefficient data in two volumes. Volume I contains the complete missile aerodynamic data. Volume 2 contains the individual fin aerodynamic data.

Book The Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wrap around Fins at Mach Numbers of 0 3 to 3 0

Download or read book The Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wrap around Fins at Mach Numbers of 0 3 to 3 0 written by C. Wayne Dahlke and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of investigations into many of the geometric and flow parameters influencing the aerodynamics of wrap-around fins are presented in this report. Particular emphasis is placed on defining static and dynamic roll characteristics between Mach numbers of 0.3 to 3.0. Among the geometric parameters highlighted are fin span, aspect ratio, leading edge sweep, leading edge shape, fin opening angle, and afterbody geometry. Comparisons of static stability, dynamic stability, and drag are made between the flat and the wrap- around fin. Problems associated with measurement of wrap-around fin rolling mounts are also discussed. An overview of the wrap-around fin roll moment characteristics are presented as an aid for making estimates and establishing testing techniques. This report supercedes RD-73-17.

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics at a Mach Number of 3 10 of Several Fourth stage Shapes of the Scout Research Vehicle

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics at a Mach Number of 3 10 of Several Fourth stage Shapes of the Scout Research Vehicle written by Byron M. Jaquet and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind-tunnel investigation was made at a Mach number of 3.10 (Reynolds number per foot of 16.3 x 10 to the 6th power to 16.9 x 10 to the 6th power) to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of various modifications of the payload section of the fourth stage of the Scout research vehicle. It was found that, for the combination of stages 3 and 4, increasing the size of the nose of the basic Scout to provide a cylindrical section of the same diameter as the third stage increased the normal-force slope by about 30 percent, the axial force by about 39 percent, and moved the center of pressure forward by about one fourth-stage base diameter. By reducing the diameter of the cylinder, at about one nose length behind the base of the enlarged nose frustum, to that of the basic Scout and thereafter retaining the shape of the basic Scout, the center of pressure was moved rearward by about one-half fourthstage base diameter at the expense of an additional 19-percent increase in axial force. A spikehemisphere configuration had the largest forces and moments and the most forward center-of-pressure location of the configurations considered. (Author).
