Book Adoption in the United States

Download or read book Adoption in the United States written by Martha J. Henry and published by Lyceum Books, Incorporated. This book was released on 2009 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Navigating the adoption process is no easy feat. This is the only comprehensive adoption guide that includes information on health issues as well as state-specific legal procedures that influence domestic infant adoptions, inter-country adoptions, and the creation of foster families. Henry and Pollack combine a unique range of research with an accessible style as they reach out to parents, professionals, and students. The authors also address difficult topics, including openness throughout the adoption process and special considerations for cross-cultural families. This book is a must read. Features: Provides valuable sources for staying up-to-date on ever-changing adoption laws. Includes an extensive appendix of tables and charts, clearly presenting procedures and regulations that vary by state. Discusses critical (yet often overlooked) behavioural, developmental, and mental health issues. Addresses sensitive topics, such as language use and confidentiality. Gives professionals and students an interdisciplinary background to increase practice effectiveness. Provides information on the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) and the Interstate Compact on Adoption and Medical Assistance (ICAMA) — two compacts typically not included in texts, yet inevitably encountered by adoption workers, students, and parents.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the U.S.-affiliated Pacific, the U.S. Department of Education (U.S. ED) and the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) are responsible for assisting State educational agencies (SEAs) in the development of planning and accountability systems to meet the requirements of the "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001" (NCLB) requirements and similar DOI initiatives. As a result, many SEAs are revisiting a number of their policies and procedures--including teacher certification; minimum academic standards; assessment and accountability systems aligned with those standards; and instructional programs, including textbooks--to ensure that teaching and learning in the classroom provide all students with an opportunity to be successful. This paper provides policymakers with information that will assist in decision making regarding instructional program adoption policies and procedures to ensure that teaching and learning in the classroom provide all students with an opportunity to be successful.

Before it proceeded, however, it commissioned this study from Whitmore to serve as a reference for the legislators. Written in two parts, the first contains the texts of laws and related cases from twenty-two states. He also includes a brief summary of relevant European statutes. Organized by topic, the second part describes how these laws compare and differ. Though written for a specific purpose, this study remains a valuable guide for the scholar of the history of adoption law or family law to all aspects of American adoption law during the nineteenth century.
