Starving the Flesh details what Eric learned when God began opening his eyes to his sin. Three years of going to church services three times a week, serving on a number of ministry projects, reading his Bible, praying frequently, being involved in a weekly Bible study, and being great friends with his pastor still left him feeling that something was missing. Comparing his life to the Bible again and again, the question kept haunting him: 'Why does my life not look like the Christians' lives in the Bible?' Eric asked himself: 'Does God look at me and say he is well pleased with me? The truth is that I became complacent. I became religious. I became a Pharisee. This began my process of Starving the Flesh.' Join Eric as he sheds light on some critical biblical truths many churches don't teach: bull; How to have complete victory over sin. bull; Understanding what our freedom in Christ means--and doesn't mean. bull; Seeing the idols of our age for what they are.

Book Living a Lifestyle of Fasting

Download or read book Living a Lifestyle of Fasting written by Bishop Darryl Husband Sr. and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-03-11 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a gateway to authority in the Kingdom of God that ever believer needs, but many do not have a clue how to find. Even when the gateway is found, many people do not know the keys that unlock that authority. This series of books that we are writing is designed with the intent of giving every Christian a roadmap to the place where they were born again to live. Genesis 1:26, 27 gives us the picture of what every one of us was created to look like. We were made in the image of God to be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth and to have dominion. We lost our authority in Genesis 3, listening to a voice other than the voice of God. How do we get it back? Why are Christians so powerless in this generation? Mark 9 (KJV) gives us a key. Jesus speaks to the disciples about the healing and deliverance of a possessed boy. He offers the keys of fasting and praying as ways to kingdom authority.

Book A Hunger for God

  • Pages : 216 pages

Download or read book A Hunger for God written by John Piper and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an appetite for God. And it can be awakened. I invite you to turn from the dulling effects of food and the dangers of idolatry, and to say with some simple fast: "This much, O God, I want you." Our appetites dictate the direction of our lives - whether it be the cravings of our stomachs, the passionate desire for possessions or power, or the longings of our spirits for God. But for the Christian, the hunger for anything besides God can be an arch-enemy. While our hunger for God - and Him alone - is the only thing that will bring victory. Do you have that hunger for Him? As John Piper puts it: "If we don't feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because you have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because we have nibbled so long at the table of the world. Our soul is stuffed with small things, and there is no room for the great." If we are full of what the world offers, then perhaps a fast might express, or even increase, our soul's appetite for God. Between the dangers of self-denial and self-indulgence is this path of pleasant pain called fasting. It is the path John Piper invites you to travel in this book. For when God is the supreme hunger of your heart, He will be supreme in everything. And when you are most satisfied in Him, He will be most glorified in you.

Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing. Then one day he’s given a gift: a live specimen of the finest quality. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the wake of Vladimir Lenin’s death in 1924, various protagonists grappled to become his successor, but it was not until 1928 that Joseph Stalin emerged as leader of the Russian Marxists’ Bolshevik wing. Surrounded by an increasingly hostile capitalist world, Stalin reasoned that Soviet Russia had to industrialize in order to survive and prosper. But domestic capital was scarce, so the country’s minerals, timber, and grain were sold abroad for hard currency for funding the development of heavy industry. Claiming total control of agricultural management and production, Stalin implemented the collectivization of farming, consolidating small peasant holdings into large collective farms and controlling their output. The program was economically successful, but it came at a high social cost as the state encountered intense resistance, and between 1928 and 1934 collectivization led to the deaths of at least ten million people from starvation and associated diseases. Hungry and Starving elicits the voices of both the culprits and the victims at the centre of this horrific process. Through primary accounts of collectivization as well as the eyewitness observations of ambassadors, reporters, tourists, fellow travellers, Russian emigrés, tsarist officials, aristocrats, scientists, and technical specialists, James Gibson engages the crucial notions and actors in the academic discourse of the period. He finds that the famine lasted longer than is commonly supposed, that it took place on a national rather than a regional scale, and that while the famine was entirely man-made – the result of the ruthless manner in which collectivization was executed and enforced – it was neither deliberate nor ethnically motivated, given that it was not in the Soviet state’s economic or political interest to engage in genocide. Highlighting the experiences of life and death under Stalin’s ruthless regime, Hungry and Starving offers a broader understanding of the Great Soviet Famine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - LOGIC REFUTES HIM. - MATH CANNOT CALCULATE HIM. - HISTORY CANNOT ADEQUATELY TRACK HIM. - LANGUAGE DOES NOT ACCURATELY DEFINE HIM. - ART DOES NOT COMPLETELY DEPICT HIM. - SCIENCE CANNOT EXPLAIN HIM. The Problem With Believing God will help you during those times when you do not know what to believe, how to believe, and even wrestle with whether you should bother to believe at all. Believing is still the prescriptive solution for receiving the blessings and the promises of God. Believing is our only avenue back to a redemptive relationship with God. Only those who dare to believe God will ever learn to please God; for "without faith, it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6).

Book The Mysteries of London Vol 1 4

Download or read book The Mysteries of London Vol 1 4 written by George W. M. Reynolds and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-13 with total page 3105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mysteries of London in 4 volumes is a "penny blood" classic. There are many plots in the story, but the overarching purpose is to reveal different facets of life in London, from its seedy underbelly to its over-indulgent and corrupt aristocrats. The Mysteries of London are considered to be among the seminal works of the Victorian "urban mysteries" genre, a style of sensational fiction which adapted elements of Gothic novels – with their haunted castles, innocent noble damsels in distress and nefarious villains – to produce stories which instead emphasized the poverty, crime, and violence of a great metropolis, complete with detailed and often sympathetic descriptions of the lives of lower-class lawbreakers and extensive glossaries of thieves' cant, all interwoven with a frank sexuality not usually found in popular fiction of the time.

Book excerpt: Killing Sin is John Owen's Puritan classic Mortification of Sin updated for today. Owen tackles the age-old challenge for the Christian: how to put to death the power of sin over our lives. This is something that is impossible through man-centered self-help or self-denial. But with God all things are possible. Though we will never be completely free of sin while alive in this world, by putting our faith on Christ with an expectation of His help, the Holy Spirit will bring the His cross into our hearts with all its sin-killing power. Owen tells us why it is imperative for the Christian to be killing sin in his life, what it actually means to kill sin, why only a Christian can do it, why it is only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit, and how we can avail ourselves of the power of the Spirit to kill sin through gospel faith in the death and resurrection of Christ. Owen's original Mortification of Sin was written in 17th century English that is extremely difficult to understand. This Killing Sin translates Owen into contemporary English that is easy to read without dumbing it down so people today can read this very important book on a most critical topic.
