Book Stars Cars and Crystal Meth

Download or read book Stars Cars and Crystal Meth written by Jack Sutherland and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jack Sutherland, the narrator and protagonist of this memoir has, you might say, led a charmed life in the face of seeming damnation. A confirmed alcoholic in his early teens, by his twenties he was PA and bodyguard to the Hollywood stars most notably Michael Stipe, Ru Paul and Mickey Rourke. His work took him to exotic destinations around the world and bizarre encounters and requests. It also led him back to a smorgasbord of lethal addictions: alcohol, marijuana, ecstasy and perhaps most damaging of all crystal meth and the crazed chem sex that characterises its use. On the shores of death's coastline, a nine stone skeleton in a frame that once boasted the shape and tone of a bodybuilder, Jack is saved. By his father, one of the literary world's most esteemed personalities: John Sutherland.A son's memoir told through the prism and prose of a father will surely take its place among the classics of contemporary addiction and recovery stories like A Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man and Another Bullshit Night in Suck City. Stars, Cars & Crystal Meth lifts the lid on the shadow world of the Hollywood PA with grim but ultimately inspiring honesty.

Book The Birth of Chrysler Corporation and Its Engineering Legacy

Download or read book The Birth of Chrysler Corporation and Its Engineering Legacy written by Carl Breer and published by SAE. This book was released on 1995 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a remarkable engineering team as told by one of its members, Carl Breer. Breer, Fred Zeder, and Owen Skelton worked together for 35 years, first at Studebaker and then at Chrysler, bringing solid engineering principles to the design and testing of early automobiles. The Birth of Chrysler Corporation and Its Engineering Legacy begins with a look at Carl Breer's early years, giving readers a glimpse of his engineering adeptness, even as a youth. The book's focus then shifts to the Zeder, Skelton, and Breer engineering team. Through the eyes of Carl Breer, we see the trio at work first at Studebaker prior to World War I, and then, more importantly, in 1919 as they meet Walter Chrysler and become the engineering building blocks upon which the Chrysler Corporation was founded. The Birth of Chrysler Corporation and Its Engineering Legacy offers readers a 'behind-the-scenes' look at the many innovations developed by the Zeder, Skelton, and Breer team during Chrysler's early days, including hydraulic brakes, all-steel bodies, 'fresh air' heaters, and more. It also describes the team's groundbreaking wind tunnel research which resulted in the developmen of the Airflow, an engineering tour de force that was so far ahead of its time that, unfortunately, the marketplace didn't respond well to it. The Airflow's design was so advanced that the aerodynamic principles upon which it was based continue to shape the design of today's cars.

Book Wabaunsee County

    Book Details:
  • Author : Greg A. Hoots
  • Publisher : Arcadia Publishing
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 9780738560779
  • Pages : 132 pages

Download or read book Wabaunsee County written by Greg A. Hoots and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2009 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2009, Wabaunsee County will celebrate its 150th anniversary. Although Wabaunsee County was first created in 1855 by the Kansas territorial legislature as Richardson County, it had no county government and was attached to neighboring Shawnee County in legal jurisdiction. In 1859, the legislature renamed the county Wabaunsee, after the Potawatomi Indian chief, and in March of that year, the first election for county officers was held. The county lies in the heart of the Kansas Flint Hills, and it boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the state. While located only 30 miles from the state capital in Topeka, it retains its rural atmosphere, even today. The largest of its seven incorporated towns has less than 1,000 residents. The earliest settlers lived among large populations of Native Americans. During the Civil War, the Underground Railroad operated actively in the county. In 1880, the first railroad was built in the county, and the towns along its line boomed. When a second line was introduced in 1887, the county saw its greatest growth. Today residents enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the rugged Flint Hills, lush pastures, and fertile bottomland sustaining the local economy as it has for a century and a half. A large section of highway across the county has been designated the Kansas Native Stone Scenic Byway, and tourism has begun to play an increasingly larger role in the countys economy.
