Book Standing Tall

Download or read book Standing Tall written by Robert F. Foley and published by Casemate. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What an amazing opportunity! Standing Tall allows us to learn about leadership from a true American hero.” — Mike Krzyzewski, former Head Coach, Duke University and USA Olympic Gold Medal basketball teams. Finalist, 2022 Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Writing Awards Robert Foley had only been in Vietnam for six months when he was promoted to captain and given command of a rifle company. In November 1966, Foley led his men on a mission to rescue another company that had been pinned down by Viet Cong forces. His leadership that day inspired his men and led to a successful operation—and the Medal of Honor. His actions in Vietnam were only a small portion of a long and varied career of service in the US Army, but Foley did not always seem marked for success. Coming from a blue-collar suburb of Boston, his years in West Point were marked by poor grades, injuries, and sickness. With a determination to lead by example and inspire trust among others, Foley served across the globe and rose through the ranks. He even returned to West Point as Commandant of Cadets, later retiring as a 3-star general and commander of Fifth Army.

Book The Defence and Fall of Singapore

Download or read book The Defence and Fall of Singapore written by Brian Farrell and published by Monsoon Books. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortly after midnight on 8 December 1941, two divisions of crack troops of the Imperial Japanese Army began a seaborne invasion of southern Thailand and northern Malaya. Their assault developed into a full-blown advance towards Singapore, the main defensive position of the British Empire in the Far East. The defending British, Indian, Australian and Malayan forces were outmanoeuvred on the ground, overwhelmed in the air and scattered on the sea. By the end of January 1942, British Empire forces were driven back onto the island of Singapore Itself, cut off from further outside help. When the Japanese stormed the island with an an-out assault, the defenders were quickly pushed back into a corner from which there was no escape. Singapore’s defenders finally capitulated on 15 February, to prevent the wholesale pillage of the city itself. Their rapid and total defeat was nothing less than military humiliation and political disaster. Based on the most extensive use yet of primary documents in Britain, Japan, Australia and Singapore, Brian Farrell provides the fullest picture of how and why Singapore fell and its real significance to the outcome of the Second World War.

Download or read book Standing Tall written by Dr. Nkere K. Ebube and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-10-31 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not simply a narrative about the struggles that we go through in life, geared towards making the reader feel good or evoke a sense of self-pity. It is an inspirational book based strictly on sound biblical principles. The underlying message is that trial in the life of a Christian is not an extraordinary event, but that God does extraordinary things in our lives through it, particularly as we get His attention through our obedience, humility, steadfast faith and unwavering belief in His promises. This book contains numerous biblical references to strengthen you, whether you are currently experiencing a storm, in a period of calm or just stepping into the chaos. God can meet you at any point in your life. He is the only one who is capable of changing your circumstances or turning any broken vessel into a masterpiece for His glory. You do not need to explain to Him where you are for He already knows. Christ is our perfect intercessor. He has cleansed our ugly past with His blood, and our salvation is secure. There is no type of trial that is new before the Lord. He would make a way of escape according to His will. Seek His face diligently in prayer, and do not let the circumstances of life overwhelm you. Remain strong in your faith, and continue to stand by His promises. Our Lord is a faithful God. He would grant you peace and strength in your adversity.

Book The Most Dangerous Cinema

Download or read book The Most Dangerous Cinema written by Bryan Senn and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People hunting people for sport--an idea both shocking and fascinating. In 1924 Richard Connell published a short story that introduced this concept to the world, where it has remained ever since--as evidenced by the many big- and small-screen adaptations and inspirations. Since its publication, Connell's award-winning "The Most Dangerous Game" has been continuously anthologized and studied in classrooms throughout America. Raising questions about the nature of violence and cruelty, and the ethics of hunting for sport, the thrilling story spawned a new cinematic subgenre, beginning with RKO's 1932 production of The Most Dangerous Game, and continuing right up to today. This book examines in-depth all the cinematic adaptations of the iconic short story. Each film chapter has a synopsis, a "How Dangerous Is It?" critique, an overall analysis, a production history, and credits. Five additional chapters address direct to video, television, game shows, and almost "dangerous" productions. Photographs, extensive notes, bibliography and index are included.

Despite Wilson's accomplishments at the college level, few experts predicted success for the sub-6-foot signal caller. Two years later, Wilson and the Seahawks were Super Bowl champions. With Seattle's triumph in Super Bowl XLVIII, Wilson set the NFL record for most wins in a quarterback's first two seasons. In this commemorative edition, veteran Seattle sports writers Art Thiel and Steve Rudman trace the quarterback's ascent from North Carolina State to Wisconsin, with a detour into professional baseball, and through the Super Bowl XLVIII win.
