Book Sample Preparation for Trace Element Analysis

Download or read book Sample Preparation for Trace Element Analysis written by Zoltan Mester and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-16 with total page 1339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the collection of a sample, every analytical chemist will agree that its subsequent preservation and processing are of paramount importance. The availability of high performance analytical instrumentation has not diminished this need for careful selection of appropriate pretreatment methodologies, intelligently designed to synergistically elicit optimum function from these powerful measurement tools. Sample Preparation for Trace Element Analysis is a modern, comprehensive treatise, providing an account of the state-of-the art on the subject matter. The book has been conceived and designed to satisfy the varied needs of the practicing analytical chemist. It is a multi-author work, reflecting the diverse expertise arising from its highly qualified contributors. The first five chapters deal with general issues related to the determination of trace metals in varied matrices, such as sampling, contamination control, reference materials, calibration and detection techniques. The second part of the book deals with extraction and sampling technologies (totaling 15 chapters), providing theoretical and practical hints for the users on how to perform specific extractions. Subsequent chapters overview seven major representative matrices and the sample preparation involved in their characterization. This portion of the book is heavily based on the preceding chapters dealing with extraction technologies. The last ten chapters are dedicated to sample preparation for trace element speciation. - First title to provide comprehensive sample preparation information, dealing specifically with the analysis of samples for trace elements. - The 39 chapters are authored by international leaders of their fields.

Book X Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications

Download or read book X Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications written by Michael Haschke and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides comprehensive coverage on using X-ray fluorescence for laboratory applications This book focuses on the practical aspects of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy and discusses the requirements for a successful sample analysis, such as sample preparation, measurement techniques and calibration, as well as the quality of the analysis results. X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications begins with a short overview of the physical fundamentals of the generation of X-rays and their interaction with the sample material, followed by a presentation of the different methods of sample preparation in dependence on the quality of the source material and the objective of the measurement. After a short description of the different available equipment types and their respective performance, the book provides in-depth information on the choice of the optimal measurement conditions and the processing of the measurement results. It covers instrument types for XRF; acquisition and evaluation of X-Ray spectra; analytical errors; analysis of homogeneous materials, powders, and liquids; special applications of XRF; process control and automation. An important resource for the analytical chemist, providing concrete guidelines and support for everyday analyses Focuses on daily laboratory work with commercially available devices Offers a unique compilation of knowledge and best practices from equipment manufacturers and users Covers the entire work process: sample preparation, the actual measurement, data processing, assessment of uncertainty, and accuracy of the obtained results X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Laboratory Applications appeals to analytical chemists, analytical laboratories, materials scientists, environmental chemists, chemical engineers, biotechnologists, and pharma engineers.

Book The Use of Microwave Digestion and ICP to Determine Elements in Petroleum Samples

Download or read book The Use of Microwave Digestion and ICP to Determine Elements in Petroleum Samples written by D. Leong and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ICP-AES analyses are prone to errors caused by changes in the power level, nebulization rate, plasma temperature, and sample matrix. This is especially true for ICP-AES and ICP-MS organic applications in the petroleum industry where extremely complicated sample matrices are common. As a result, accurate analyses of petroleum lubricants, lubricant additives, fuels, crude oils, residues, and related materials often require bracketing with matrix matched standards, the use of internal standards, and a flexible ICP-AES/ICP-MS system. Many new innovative analytical instruments were developed to better improve elemental analysis in the last few decades. However, sample preparation remains the formidable challenge because it is always labor-intensive, cumbersome, and does not permit fast operation. It is encouraging to see the application of microwave radiation field as the energy source for sample digestion to pursue more reliable, but simpler, safer, more rapid, and less expensive methods, particularly in the petroleum industry.
