Book Standard Operating Procedures for Mid section Open Water Discharge Measurements Using ADCPs

Download or read book Standard Operating Procedures for Mid section Open Water Discharge Measurements Using ADCPs written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) are typically used for measuring river discharge from a floating platform or boat that is continuously moving across the river from one bank to the other. A hydrographer can also use ADCP's to measure river discharge using the mid-section method in which the ADCP is held in place for a specified duration at multiple discrete locations, or verticals, across the stream. Water velocity data is captured throughout the depth of flow and averaged to obtain a mean velocity estimate integrated over the full depth at each vertical. The depth for each vertical is determined with the ADCP, and representative areas and discharges for each vertical are calculated and summed to obtain a total discharge. This document presents guidance and standard operating procedures specific to deploying ADCPs for open water mid-section measurements"--Introduction, page 2.

Book Measuring Discharge with Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers from a Moving Boat

Download or read book Measuring Discharge with Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers from a Moving Boat written by David S. Mueller and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-16 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mission of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Discipline is to provide the information and understanding needed for wise management of the Nation's water resources. Inherent in this mission is the responsibility of collecting data that accurately describe the physical, chemical, and biological attributes of water systems. These data are used for environmental and resource assessments by the USGS, other government agencies and scientific organizations, and the general public. Reliable and quality-assured data are essential to the credibility and impartiality of the water-resources appraisals carried out by the USGS.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised manual has three principal purposes. The first is to provide water users and districts guidance in selecting, managing, inspecting, and maintaining their water measurement devices. The second is to describe the standard methods and devices commonly used to measure irrigation water. The third is to acquaint irrigation system operators with a variety of other established but less common methods and with new or special techniques.

Book Congo Basin Hydrology Climate and Biogeochemistry

Download or read book Congo Basin Hydrology Climate and Biogeochemistry written by Raphael M. Tshimanga and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New scientific discoveries in the Congo Basin as a result of international collaborations The Congo is the world's second largest river basin and home to 120 million people. Understanding the cycling of water, sediments, and nutrients is important as the region faces climatic and anthropogenic change. Congo Basin Hydrology, Climate, and Biogeochemistry: A Foundation for the Future explores variations in and influences on rainfall, hydrology and hydraulics, and sediment and carbon dynamics. It features contributions from experts in the region and their international collaborators. Volume highlights include: New in-situ and remotely sensed measurements and model results Use of historic data to assess precipitation and hydrologic changes Exploration of water exchange between wetlands and rivers Biogeochemical processes in the Congo's forests and wetlands A scientific foundation for hydrologic resource management in the region Studies from different parts of the Congo river and its adjoining basins This book is available in English and French. The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals. Find out more about this book in this short video and this article.

Book Manual on Stream Gauging

Download or read book Manual on Stream Gauging written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Manual on Stream Gauging (WMO No. 519) was first released in 1980. Since then, however, there have been significant advances both in the approach and the methodologies employed. Consequently, at its twelfth session (Geneva, October 2004), the WMO Commission for Hydrology (CHy) decided to meet the identified needs of the National Hydrological Services by revising the Manual to include the newer technologies that have been introduced over the period and are currently employed in this crucial field. In this context, Volume I of the manual encompasses the topics of gauge height measurement, stream velocity and stream discharge, whilst Volume II focuses on the discharge rating relationship.--Publisher's description.
