Book Aquifer Test Modeling

Download or read book Aquifer Test Modeling written by William C. Walton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recognition of the trend toward using numerical methdos for analyzing aquifer test data, Aquifer Test Modeling delineates the application of numerical Laplace inversion analytical equations and numerical models and demonstrates the use of public domain software. Written by a leading expert with over fifty years of experience, this highly practical text provides a thorough grounding in the terms and methods employed in aquifer test modeling, while also establishing a protocol for organizing and simplifying conceptual model definition and data analysis. Using graphs, tables, and sample datasets to enhance understanding, the author delineates the five major steps involved in the aquifer test modeling process. He discusses the importance of the conceptual model definition as a framework for organizing, simplifying, and idealizing information. The chapters cover the selection of appropriate aquifer test mathematical model equations compatible with previously defined conceptual models and highlight the importance of reviewing the mathematical assumption and the adjustment of data for any departures. They also explain format selection, technique selection, well function or drawdown calculation, and calibration. The book provides five sample data sets to assist the reader in becoming familiar with WTAQ and MODFLOW aquifer test modeling input and output data file contents with confined nonleaky and unconfined aquifer conditions. It includes conceptual models consisting of abbreviated descriptions of aquifer test facilities, aquifer test data, and aquifer parameter values together with selected sample file sets. These are just a few of the features that make the book a valuable tool for estimating the supply and contamination characteristics of aquifers.

Book Selected Analytical Methods for Well and Aquifer Evaluation

Download or read book Selected Analytical Methods for Well and Aquifer Evaluation written by William Clarence Walton and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject matter includes formulas and methods used to quantitatively appraise the geohydrologic parameters affecting the water-yielding capacity of wells and aquifers and formulas and methods used to quantitatively appraise the response of wells and aquifers to heavy pumping. Numerous illustrative examples of analyses based on actual field data are presented. The aquifer test is one of the most useful tools available to hydrologists. Analysis of aquifer test data to determine the hydraulic properties of aquifers and confining beds under non-leaky artesian, leaky artesian, water table, partial penetration, and geohydrologic boundary conditions is discussed and limitations of various methods of analysis are reviewed. Hydraulic properties also are estimated with specific-capacity data and maps of the water table or piezometric surface. Emphasis is placed on the quantitative evaluation of the practical sustained yields of wells and aquifers by available analytical methods

Book excerpt: In recent years, the focus in groundwater studies has expanded to also include groundwater contamination and remediation studies as a part of resource evaluations. While there are other books on the subject, Field Hydrogeology-A Guide for Site Investigations and Report Preparation provides the first integrated presentation of the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) standards, US Geological Survey (USGS), and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) field techniques. It also includes access to a Web site that contains software for designing aquifer tests and aquifer-recharge experiments. Written by an author with more than 40 years of experience in hydrology and geology, this reference treats the subject from a field standpoint. Useful as a field guide and a textbook, it contains standard methods for planning and undertaking hydrogeologic investigations. It incorporates case studies, contains a glossary of field-hydrogeology technical terms, and provides a detailed list of ASTM standards and key hydrologic Web sites. The guide is based on ASTM standards, EPA, and US Department of Interior (DOI) field technical manuals. The text covers hydrogeologic fundamentals, conceptual models, planning an investigation, surface investigations, subsurface investigations, field inventory, stream flow measurements, water quality measurements, and report preparation. Book Application of Three Aquifer Test Methods for Estimating Hydraulic Properties Within the 100 N Area

Download or read book Application of Three Aquifer Test Methods for Estimating Hydraulic Properties Within the 100 N Area written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose if this study was to better define the range of saturated horizontal hydraulic conductivities in the 100-N Area of the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington for use in a numerical groundwater model. Three methods were used for determining aquifer properties and are discussed within this report (1) reanalysis of past pumping test data using a pressure derivative method to identify the data in the radial flow regime for analysis by traditional graphical techniques, (2) sinusoidal analysis techniques described in Ferris that utilize water-table responses to river-level variations, and (3) the basic flow equation for groundwater.
