This book draws together the experiences, insights and findings of some of the world's leading staff developers in open and flexible education. It is designed to provide an overview of the trends, influences and events which are shaping the work of these professionals, and the policy changes, processes and outcomes they are helping to bring about in this expanding field. Book Teaching Teachers about Law in the 90s

Download or read book Teaching Teachers about Law in the 90s written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document is a compendium of teacher education strategies intended to strengthen law related education efforts by providing ideas, activities, and experiences drawn from the perspectives of veteran teacher educators. The book grew out of a conference on advanced law related education leadership exploring what is known about preparing precollegiate teachers for the 1990's and beyond. This comprehensive volume includes diverse inservice teacher education programs, ranging from creative strategies for workshops of short duration to summer institutes of several weeks. Preservice models for infusing law relate education into college and university teacher preparation courses are highlighted. In addition to presentations of exemplary preservice and inservice teacher education programs, an important element of the conference was reflective discussions among teacher education faculty, school district staff development specialists, and law related education program directors. The volume is divided into two parts. The first includes six articles on preservice models. Articles in this section discuss training future teachers in U.S. government and politics, integrating law related education into social studies using language arts methods, and a model for using law related education as a vehicle for teaching secondary social studies method courses. The second section on inservice models discusses statewide law related education certification, national teacher training workshops, graduate level programs, summer institutes for teachers, and community/school partnerships such as a mock trial program in Ohio, and the national MENTOR program of law firm/high school partnerships. Book Effective Staff Development for School Change

Download or read book Effective Staff Development for School Change written by William T. Pink and published by Greenwood. This book was released on 1992 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any conception of staff development emerges from an understanding of teaching, schooling, and education. The way people define and think about staff development will be influenced inevitably by their philosophy of education: their values, beliefs, and their taken-forgranted assumptions about what is and what ought to be. Clearly, education theories, interpretations of research, and experiential considerations impinge on educators' ideas and actions. Thus, these three broad frameworks must be illuminated in order to examine staff development. This work explores these three major sources of conceptions of staff development: theory, research, and analytical reflection of educators' experiences. It offers fresh insights into teaching and schools as well as a broader and more powerful conception of staff development.
