Book Stabilized Finite Element Schems for Incompressible Flow Using Scott Vogelius Elements

Download or read book Stabilized Finite Element Schems for Incompressible Flow Using Scott Vogelius Elements written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We propose a stabilized finite element method based on the Scott-Vogelius element in combination with either a local projection stabilization or an edge oriented stabilization based on a penalization of the gradient jumps over element edges. We prove a discrete inf-sup condition leading to optimal a priori error estimates. The theoretical considerations are illustrated by some numerical examples.

Book Finite Element Methods for Incompressible Flow Problems

Download or read book Finite Element Methods for Incompressible Flow Problems written by Volker John and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-27 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores finite element methods for incompressible flow problems: Stokes equations, stationary Navier-Stokes equations and time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations. It focuses on numerical analysis, but also discusses the practical use of these methods and includes numerical illustrations. It also provides a comprehensive overview of analytical results for turbulence models. The proofs are presented step by step, allowing readers to more easily understand the analytical techniques.

Book Finite Element Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flows

Download or read book Finite Element Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flows written by Max D. Gunzburger and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flows examines mathematical aspects of finite element methods for the approximate solution of incompressible flow problems. The principal goal is to present some of the important mathematical results that are relevant to practical computations. In so doing, useful algorithms are also discussed. Although rigorous results are stated, no detailed proofs are supplied; rather, the intention is to present these results so that they can serve as a guide for the selection and, in certain respects, the implementation of algorithms.

Book Finite Element Analysis of Non Newtonian Flow

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Non Newtonian Flow written by Hou-Cheng Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A follow on from the author's work "Finite Elements in Heat Transfer" which we published 11/94, and which is a powerful CFD programme that will run on a PC. The fluid flow market is larger than the previous, and this package is good value in comparison with other software packages in Computational Fluid Dynamics, which are generally very expensive. The work in general copes with non-Newtonian laminar flow using the finite element method, and some basic theory of the subject is included in the opening chapters of the book.

Book Numerical Approximation of Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Approximation of Partial Differential Equations written by Alfio Quarteroni and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-11 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything is more simple than one thinks but at the same time more complex than one can understand Johann Wolfgang von Goethe To reach the point that is unknown to you, you must take the road that is unknown to you St. John of the Cross This is a book on the numerical approximation ofpartial differential equations (PDEs). Its scope is to provide a thorough illustration of numerical methods (especially those stemming from the variational formulation of PDEs), carry out their stability and convergence analysis, derive error bounds, and discuss the algorithmic aspects relative to their implementation. A sound balancing of theoretical analysis, description of algorithms and discussion of applications is our primary concern. Many kinds of problems are addressed: linear and nonlinear, steady and time-dependent, having either smooth or non-smooth solutions. Besides model equations, we consider a number of (initial-) boundary value problems of interest in several fields of applications. Part I is devoted to the description and analysis of general numerical methods for the discretization of partial differential equations. A comprehensive theory of Galerkin methods and its variants (Petrov Galerkin and generalized Galerkin), as wellas ofcollocationmethods, is devel oped for the spatial discretization. This theory is then specified to two numer ical subspace realizations of remarkable interest: the finite element method (conforming, non-conforming, mixed, hybrid) and the spectral method (Leg endre and Chebyshev expansion).

Book Stabilized Finite Element Methods for Coupled Incompressible Flow Problems

Download or read book Stabilized Finite Element Methods for Coupled Incompressible Flow Problems written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, a finite element discretization of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for a non-isothermal and electrically conducting fluid in a possibly rotating frame of reference is considered. In particular, the Oberbeck-Boussinesq model is combined with resistive incompressible magnetohydrodynamics. In order to account for instabilities and to diminish unphysical oscillations a stabilization for the incompressibility constraint as well as a local projection approach for various terms is considered. For the spatial discretization inf-sub stable ansatz spaces for velocity and pr...

Book Finite Element Methods in Incompressible Adiabatic and Compressible Flows

Download or read book Finite Element Methods in Incompressible Adiabatic and Compressible Flows written by Mutsuto Kawahara and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-04 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the finite element method in fluid flows. It is targeted at researchers, from those just starting out up to practitioners with some experience. Part I is devoted to the beginners who are already familiar with elementary calculus. Precise concepts of the finite element method remitted in the field of analysis of fluid flow are stated, starting with spring structures, which are most suitable to show the concepts of superposition/assembling. Pipeline system and potential flow sections show the linear problem. The advection–diffusion section presents the time-dependent problem; mixed interpolation is explained using creeping flows, and elementary computer programs by FORTRAN are included. Part II provides information on recent computational methods and their applications to practical problems. Theories of Streamline-Upwind/Petrov–Galerkin (SUPG) formulation, characteristic formulation, and Arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) formulation and others are presented with practical results solved by those methods.

Book Incompressible Flow and the Finite Element Method 2 Volume Set

Download or read book Incompressible Flow and the Finite Element Method 2 Volume Set written by P. M. Gresho and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2000-07-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive reference work covers all the important details regarding the application of the finite element method to incompressible flows. It addresses the theoretical background and the detailed development of appropriate numerical methods applied to the solution of a wide range of incompressible flows, beginning with extensive coverage of the advection-diffusion equation in volume one. For both this equation and the equations of principal interest - the Navier-Stokes equations, covered in detail in volume two - detailed discussion of both the continuous and discrete equations is presented, as well as explanations of how to properly march the time-dependent equations using smart implicit methods. Boundary and initial conditions, so important in applications, are carefully described and discussed, including well-posedness. The important role played by the pressure, so confusing in the past, is carefully explained. Together, this two volume work explains and emphasizes consistency in six areas: * consistent mass matrix * consistent pressure Poisson equation * consistent penalty methods * consistent normal direction * consistent heat flux * consistent forces Fully indexed and referenced, this book is an essential reference tool for all researchers, students and applied scientists in incompressible fluid mechanics.
