Download or read book Control of Uncertain Systems written by Hinrichsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invoking the machinery of Control Theory to control a real-world plant means, on the basis of available a priori knowledge of the plant, design ing/selecting a feasible controller accomplishing the control objective. A priori knowledge about the plant is normally represented as a mathemat ical model, given by physical laws or measurement data. Such a model is inevitably uncertain, due to measurement errors, simplified models of natural laws, neglected dynamics, and the desire to get a model tractable for further computations. Control of Uncertain Systems is therefore an im portant issue, both practically and philosophically. Basically, two different approaches exist: Adaptive Control and Robust Control. On four beautiful summer days in June 1989, researchers from 12 coun tries gathered together in Bremen, West Germany, for a workshop devoted to these issues. 49 talks, invited and contributed, were presented. The present work collects 18 of these talks. (Program and original abstracts from the workshop are available as Report 209, Institute for Dynamical System.) The papers represent a broad scope of current trends in robust and adaptive control. Topics covered include: New directions in adaptive control, stability analysis of uncertain systems, robust and adaptive stabi lization, numerical methods, and topological aspects of robust control. The papers were carefully refereed and we would like to thank the referees for their efforts, which have resulted in substantial improvements.

Download or read book Bilinear Control Systems written by David Elliott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical theory of control became a ?eld of study half a century ago in attempts to clarify and organize some challenging practical problems and the methods used to solve them. It is known for the breadth of the mathematics it uses and its cross-disciplinary vigor. Its literature, which can befoundinSection93ofMathematicalReviews,wasatonetimedominatedby the theory of linear control systems, which mathematically are described by linear di?erential equations forced by additive control inputs. That theory led to well-regarded numerical and symbolic computational packages for control analysis and design. Nonlinear control problems are also important; in these either the - derlying dynamical system is nonlinear or the controls are applied in a n- additiveway.Thelastfourdecadeshaveseenthedevelopmentoftheoretical work on nonlinear control problems based on di?erential manifold theory, nonlinear analysis, and several other mathematical disciplines. Many of the problems that had been solved in linear control theory, plus others that are new and distinctly nonlinear, have been addressed; some resulting general de?nitions and theorems are adapted in this book to the bilinear case.

Book Stability and Stable Oscillations in Discrete Time Systems

Download or read book Stability and Stable Oscillations in Discrete Time Systems written by Aristide Halanay and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-10-31 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The expertise of a professional mathmatician and a theoretical engineer provides a fresh perspective of stability and stable oscillations. The current state of affairs in stability theory, absolute stability of control systems, and stable oscillations of both periodic and almost periodic discrete systems is presented, including many applications in engineering such as stability of digital filters, digitally controlled thermal processes, neurodynamics, and chemical kinetics. This book will be an invaluable reference source for those whose work is in the area of discrete dynamical systems, difference equations, and control theory or applied areas that use discrete time models.

Book Perspectives in Control Theory

Download or read book Perspectives in Control Theory written by B. Jakubczyk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume contains papers based on lectures delivered during the school "Per spectives in Control Theory" held in Sielpia, Poland on September 19-24, 1988. The aim of the school was to give the state-of-the-art presentation of recent achievements as weH as perspectives in such fields of control theory as optimal control and optimization, linear systems, and nonlinear systems. Accordingly, the volume includes survey papers together with presentations of some recent results. The special emphasis is put on: - nonlinear systems (algebraic and geometric methods), - optimal control and optimization (general problems, distributed parameter systems), - linear systems (linear-quadratic problem, robust stabilization). An important feature of the school (and consequently of the volume) was its really "international" character since it brought together leading control theoriests from West and East. All together the school was attended by 108 participants from 18 countries. During the school 21 one-hour invited lectures were delivered. Moreover, five half-an-hour talks were given and 30 contributions were presented in frames of poster sessions. The school was organized and supported by: Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Committee of Automatic Control and Robotics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, - Institute of Automatic Control, Warsaw University of Technology (as Co ordinator of the Basic Research Program R.P.I.02 "Theory of Control of Continuous Dynamic Systems and Discrete Processes" ).

Book Open Problems in Mathematical Systems and Control Theory

Download or read book Open Problems in Mathematical Systems and Control Theory written by Vincent D. Blondel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: System and Control theory is one of the most exciting areas of contemporary engineering mathematics. From the analysis of Watt's steam engine governor - which enabled the Industrial Revolution - to the design of controllers for consumer items, chemical plants and modern aircraft, the area has always drawn from a broad range of tools. It has provided many challenges and possibilities for interaction between engineering and established areas of 'pure' and 'applied' mathematics. This impressive volume collects a discussion of more than fifty open problems which touch upon a variety of subfields, including: chaotic observers, nonlinear local controlability, discrete event and hybrid systems, neural network learning, matrix inequalities, Lyapunov exponents, and many other issues. Proposed and explained by leading researchers, they are offered with the intention of generating further work, as well as inspiration for many other similar problems which may naturally arise from them. With extensive references, this book will be a useful reference source - as well as an excellent addendum to the textbooks in the area.

Book Control and Estimation in Distributed Parameter Systems

Download or read book Control and Estimation in Distributed Parameter Systems written by H. T. Banks and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in control and estimation of distributed parameter systems encompasses a wide range of applications including both fundamental science and emerging technologies. The latter include smart materials (piezoceramics, shape memory alloys, magnetostrictives, electrorheological fluids) fabrication and testing, design of high-pressure chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactors for production of microelectronic surfaces (e.g., semiconductors), while the former include groundwater contamination cleanup and other environmental modeling questions, climatology, flow control, and fluid-structure interactions as well as more traditional topics in biology, mechanics, and acoustics. These expository papers provide substantial stimulus to both young researchers and experienced investigators in control theory. Includes a comprehensive and lucid presentation that relates frequency domain techniques to state-space or time domain approaches for infinite-dimensional systems including design of robust stabilizing and finite-dimensional controllers for infinite-dimensional systems. It focuses on these two approaches to control design in an integrated system theoretic framework. This is excellent reading for researchers in both the frequency domain and time domain control communities. In other articles, topics considered include pointwise control of distributed parameter systems, bounded and unbounded sensors and actuators, stabilization issues for large flexible structures, and an overview discussion of damping models for flexible structures.
