Book A Church Built on the Rock

Download or read book A Church Built on the Rock written by Ken Riedl and published by Ken Riedl. This book was released on 2003-04-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 150-Year History of St. Henry's Catholic Church, Watertown,Wisconsin. 1853-2003. The only previous history of St. Henry’s Catholic Church of Watertown was written in German in 1903, at the time of the 50th anniversary of the congregation. One hundred years later, a new and comprehensive history of the congregation has been written to coincide with the 150th anniversary of St. Henry’s. The product of over two years of research, this updated history documents and adds perspective to the significant achievement of the one and one-half centuries of the church itself and also of the faith and devotion of its members over the years. Making lighthearted use of names of books of the Bible to organize the content of this history, the author covers all aspects of the history of St. Henry’s: the church, school, parish center, rectory, and cemetery; the societies and organizations; the varied religious services; the few absolute commands of Christ and the many rules of the Church; the devotions that nurtured one’s religious life and also the events that tested one’s faith. Particular emphasis is placed on the early decades of the 150 year history.

Book The Dominicans of Racine Wisconsin

Download or read book The Dominicans of Racine Wisconsin written by Dolores Enderle and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life gives us choices. When we know what's right, JUST DO IT! These forty "stones" help you find that the right choices in life are much better. Wrong choices can keep our lives in turmoil and nothing will seem to ever go right. This journey through my years of raising my children and growing up will help you too as you share my "stones". Some "stones" will seem rough, others smooth and then there are those "stones" which will bring hard changes in your life. But if you throw down your stones, God will begin a work in your life to help you be who you were called to be. There were times I felt like I was being stoned. Then other times I could find rest and peace in receiving these "stones". Yet in all these "stones" you will see, as I did, that when I made the right choice to let God be God, I found these stones easy to lay down before a Holy God, knowing that no matter what was happening in my life God would be with me all the way. God promises to never leave us or forsake us. Through these years and years of learning to walk in obedience and sacrifice I have grown up and found that God's ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts. HE IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE. It was not always easy, but it was a journey of a lifetime for me, with a God who loves me so much that He gave His life so we can all be over comers and not be overcome! Now, follow me down this less-traveled path to find peace, joy, obedience, and sacrificial love, as you too begin to ..THROW DOWN YOUR STONES.

Book The Dominicans of Racine Wisconsin

Download or read book The Dominicans of Racine Wisconsin written by O. P. Dolores Enderle and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-11-19 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian Church has taken Jesus and converted him from a man to a mythical Christ. The result has been ignorance and intolerance. The real message of Jesus was human-centered; one of compassion, love, humility and tolerance. Incredibly, anyone who supports these ideals today remains on the fringe of the Christian faith. We can choose to follow the advice of Jesus and his early followers; to find fulfillment by striving to make this world, our lives and the lives of others, what we want them to be. We need to liberate Jesus, and therefore ourselves, so that we can assume more responsibility for each other. No matter how we eventually choose to frame it, it all begins with a human connection.

Book The White Canons of St Norbert

Download or read book The White Canons of St Norbert written by Cornelius James Kirkfleet and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Order of Canons Regular of Prémontré, also known as the Premonstratensians, the Norbertines and, in Britain and Ireland, as the White Canons (from the colour of their habit), are a religious order of Canons regular of the Catholic Church founded in Prémontré near Laon in 1120 by Norbert of Xanten, who later became Archbishop of Magdeburg. Premonstratensians are designated by O.Praem. (Ordo Praemonstratensis) following their name. Norbert was a friend of Bernard of Clairvaux and so was largely influenced by the Cistercian ideals as to both the manner of life and the government of his order. As the Premonstratensians are not monks but Canons Regular, their work often involves preaching and the exercising of pastoral ministry; they frequently serve in parishes close to their abbeys or priories.

Book excerpt: Published on the 350th anniversary of the first Jews to arrive in America, this comprehensive history of the Jews of Boston is now available in a revised and updated paperback edition. The stunning work combines illuminating essays by distinguished Jewish historians with 110 rare photographs to trace the community from its tentative beginnings in colonial Boston through its emergence in the twentieth century as one of the most influential and successful Jewish communities in America. The volume also presents fascinating information about Boston’s synagogues and Jewish neighborhoods as well as the evolution of Jewish culture in Boston and the United States.Praise for the previous edition:“The writing is engaging and lucid, and the superb, profuse illustrations enhance the text. While numerous community histories have been published, this volume is in a class by itself--and will set the standard for all future works of this kind.”—Library Journal“For those of us who grew up with anecdotes of what being a Jew was like in, say, the South End in 1910, or in Roxbury or Chelsea in 1920, this history, collected in one place for the first time, fills in the blanks. It gives us the context for our inherited folk tales.”—Alan Lupo, Boston Globe
