This is a story about the work of the Sisters of St Joseph, an Australian Catholic Religious Order of women, founded by St Mary Mackillop, in Tasmania. Book St Joseph and His World

Download or read book St Joseph and His World written by Mike Aquilina and published by Scepter Publishers. This book was released on 2021 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A TREMENDOUS BREAKTHROUGH” in the study of St. Joseph... ...There are few subjects so challenging” to authors as St. Joseph. So says scholar Scott Hahn in his foreword to this book. Yet the pages that follow give not merely glimpses, but vistas, of St. Joseph’s world. Hahn continues: “You’ll learn about Nazareth — and how it was created almost ex nihilo shortly before Joseph’s birth. You’ll learn about religious practice and education in that place and time. You’ll travel to Egypt and encounter the fascinating settlements of Jews in that land. You’ll also find out how a carpenter worked in those days: what tools he used, what items he crafted, where he got his training, and how he got to and from his job sites.” This book provides an imaginative entry into one of the most important lives in all of history — a life too often obscured by later legends. Book The History of Fort St Joseph

Download or read book The History of Fort St Joseph written by Graeme Mount and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2000-01-05 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In early 1812, as the British and the Americans were on the brink of war in North America, Fort St. Joseph was not thought to be of much importance to the British cause. It was disregarded as a useless, poorly located post. But when war was delcared, the garrison at Fort St. Joseph pulled off a miracle: it captured the American Fort Mackinac, and for the remainder of the War of 1812 the British never relinquished control of the Upper Great Lakes. Built in the aftermath of the American Revolution, Fort St. joseph played an important role in the defence of Canada. And yet, when the war ended, the fort was abandoned, and almost forgotten. However, there were those who could not forget the heroics of 1812. They sought to restore the memory of the fort that was part of one of the defining moments in Canadian history. Determined individuals campaigned for government assistance and public support. Their efforts have paid off: since the 1960s, St. Joseph Island and the site of the fort have been revived as tourist destinations, and there are high hopes for an even greater tribute to the legacy of the fort and its soldiers.
