Book excerpt: Though Dominic Savio was only five, he had received permission to serve Mass all by himself. He was beside himself with joy. Then, at age seven, he received his First Holy Communion. On that great day, Dominic wrote down four important resolutions for himself; one would become his life's motto: "Death rather than sin." At age nine, Dominic knew he wanted to be a priest. He went to Turin to attend school at Father John Bosco's Oratory. Father Bosco was very friendly, and he taught Dominic that everyone can be a saint, easily and simply, by fulfilling his duties well each day. God's will for Dominic was that he be a schoolboy saint. Dominic received this news with joy, for he had been trying to please God in somberness and silence. He set out with a new heart, performing his everyday duties and prayers faithfully, no matter what other boys said, and trying to get his friends to do the same. It worked; soon Father Bosco could see the shining holiness of Dominic's life. At age 14 Dominic was feeling ill; soon God was to call him to Himself. When He did, Father Bosco wrote to his family, "Don't grieve; God has great plans for Dominic." And sure enough, in 1954 the Pope declared young Dominic Savio a saint of the Church. Dominic's motto, "Death rather than sin," and his faithfulness to God each day, had led him straight to holiness and to Heaven.

Book St Frances Cabrini Catholic Coloring Book

Download or read book St Frances Cabrini Catholic Coloring Book written by Mary Windeatt and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the time she was a little girl in Italy, Frances Cabrini had wanted to be a missionary sister in China. But as events turned out, she found herself heading not for China but for the United States. Thus in 1889 Mother Frances Cabrini and six other sisters set out on a creaky old ship for New York City to help the poor Italian immigrants there who often could not speak English, had no work, and were even losing their Catholic Faith. Although she had almost no money, in a few weeks Mother Cabrini and the sisters had opened up a school and an orphanage. The sisters went door to door begging for food, clothing and money. People gave generously, and Mother Cabrini opened up more and more schools and orphanages, convents and hospitals in other cities-even in Central and South America. Obstacles seemed to disappear miraculously. People were amazed and began to say Mother Cabrini was a saint, but she said that that was nonsense, and that her only secret was perfect obedience and trust in God. Years ago she had said that even the whole world was too small for her missionary desires; now it was clear that this was true. She was helping to save many souls. After many years, Mother Cabrini became a United States citizen. Then after she died in 1917, so many miracles took place that the Pope declared her a saint. Thus the little Italian girl who wanted to go to China was the very first U.S. citizen ever to become a canonized saint.

This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Francis Bernardone was one of the liveliest young fellows in Assisi. His family was rich, and he was always spending money and making merry with his friends. But God decided to shake Francis out of his thoughtless life: He spoke to him, telling him to give up his pleasures and serve Him instead. At first Francis shrank back in fear, but soon he discovered that giving everything away and becoming a poor beggar to serve Christ did make him free and truly happy. Soon, two important men in town came to join Francis. A 15-year-old girl named Clare heard about these holy friars. She wanted to do the same as they, but her father wanted her to marry. So one night Clare slipped out of her family's castle to go meet Francis and the other friars to give herself to God as a nun. She gave away her beautiful clothes and put on a poor grey dress like a peasant girl, with a rope as a sash. Then she joyfully bent her head while Francis cut off her beautiful long hair. God was pleased with Francis. Even the animals seemed to know this, because they listened to him. Francis spoke to the fierce wolf of Gubbio, who had everyone terrified, and the wolf became gentle as a puppy. At the end of Francis' life he received the wounds of Christ in his hands, feet and side, making him even more like his Master in Heaven. Finally God called Francis to Heaven, there to rejoice forever with an even greater joy than any happiness he had ever known on earth.
