Download or read book Sri Manah Siksa Volume 2 written by Raghunatha Gosvami and published by . This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is volume 2 of a two-volume set. Volume 1 is also available on Amazon. Additionally, there is a Kindle version which combines both volumes. This is a 2016 edition produced by Padma, Inc. and compiled by Urmila Devi Dasi. It includes commentaries by Jayadvaita Swami, Sivarama Swami, Sacinandana Swami, and Bhaktivijnana Goswami. The seekers of truth, with great hope, embark on the path of spiritual enlightenment. Their hearts fill with affection for guides and teachers, associates on the journey, and self-realized souls. Their aim becomes pure love of God, without even attraction for enjoying divine opulences. But the path has traps and tricksters. There is a thief who appears to be an eye-catching amorous partner, and a hungry tigress who lures with discussions of eternal light and peace. A jewel of love enables the seekers to recognize and avoid those, but will they succumb to the gang of robbers with strong ropes before they swim through the ocean of love and drink the radiant nectar that opens the door to perfection? Many treatises on spiritual life seem to make everything seem so easy-a simple formula for instant success if one is just sincere enough. Other books cater to the hopeful who keep failing and want formulas of reassurance. Yet other authors speak to the disappointed to condemn spiritual realization as a myth, which cheaters propagate for personal gain. In contrast, Splendid Instructions to the Mind (Manah-shiksha) is at once both hopefully inspiring and blatantly honest. To read it well entails an authentic appraisal of the state of one's heart and mind, an experience of recognition and acceptance that is at once sweet and sour, comforting and uncompromising. To read it well entails receiving many glowing gifts to triumph over our lower nature and reveal our true spiritual essence, so that all struggles and illusion become a distant dream. Manah-shiksha helps us make sure our compass is set to the right direction, and our heart is attuned to the mood of the spiritual world. It allows us to recognize the increasingly subtle thieves and traps on the path, and employ counteracting measures, finally showing us how the fully illuminated and humble soul enters into loving perfection. In this book, we learn about affection and attachment so we can gain genuine love of ourselves and others. Through respect and integrity, we escape the pitfalls of arrogance and deceit. These verses are a complete step-by-step guidebook on the inner, esoteric path of spontaneous love for God. Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami liberally used metaphor, poetry, and literary ornaments to unlock our full potential. Bhaktivinoda Thakura has instructed, "Shri Manah-shiksha has laid down a systematic procedure for one to enter into and become absorbed in the pastimes of Shri Shri Radha-Krishna; one should follow it without guile." In volume two, each of Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami's verses is followed by commentary by Bhaktivinoda Thakura-both prose and song. This edition is the first time his song commentary has been published in English. The verses and Bhaktivinoda's commentaries are richly illustrated with over a hundred drawings by various international artists. Additionally, this volume contains commentaries by contemporary senior practitioners of bhakti yoga from around the globe: Jayadvaita Swami, Shivarama Swami, Shacinandana Swami, Bhaktivijnana Goswami, and Urmila Devi Dasi. Their extensive commentaries delight and entertain while inspiring and clarifying. They easily enable the modern reader to put this classic book into practice in today's world.

Book Srila Prabhupada lilamrta volume 1

Download or read book Srila Prabhupada lilamrta volume 1 written by Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami and published by The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust. This book was released on with total page 1279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Srila Prabhupada-lilamrta tells the story of a remarkable individual and a remarkable achievement. The individual is A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada: philosopher, scholar, religious leader, saint. The achievement is the revolutionary transplantation of a timeless spiritual culture from ancient India to twentieth-century America. This first of two volumes begins with the story of the events leading up to Srila Prabhupada's meeting his guru, an encounter that ignited in Srila Prabhupada a slowburning flame of desire to take Krishna consciousness to the Western world. His early life was a period of patient and transcendent determination as he prepared for a mission that would later be crowned with astounding success. In August and September of 1965 Srila Prabhupada traveled alone aboard a steamship from India to New York City, with no more than the equivalent of eight dollars in his pocket and no institutional backing, but with unshakable faith in Lord Krishna and the instructions of his spiritual master. It is the 1960s, an era in which the children of those who fought World War II were leading a sweeping revolt against a society losing its soul to godless mass consumerism. Into this milieu Srila Prabhupada brought a vision for a new kind of society, a society born of a radical transformation of human consciousness from materialism to the loftiest spiritual and ethical idealism. By 1967 he had arrived in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, America's counter-culture capital, where he continued his work of calling America's youth to live up to their higher spiritual ideals and distributing the holy name of Krishna indiscriminately. By the end of the volume, we have seen Srila Prabhupada in England (meeting the Beatles), Holland, Japan, Africa, and finally back in India, where he triumphantly returned with his "dancing white elephants" – a group of his mostly Caucasian Western followers. The research team assembled by the author traveled throughout the world to gather thousands of hours of interviews with hundreds of people who knew Srila Prabhupada; diaries and memoirs from his students; and more than seven thousand of Srila Prabhupada's letters. Then the author and his team distilled this voluminous firsthand source material into a rich composite view of Srila Prabhupada, a dazzling and colorful picture of one of the most remarkable lives of our times.

Book Language and Style of the Vedic Rsis

Download or read book Language and Style of the Vedic Rsis written by Tat?i?a?na I?A?kovlevna Elizarenkova and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elizarenkova, perhaps the greatest living scholar of the Rgveda and certainly its greatest linguist, explains here the relationships between a very complicated grammatical system and the peculiarities of style of the archaic religious poetry. The laudatory hymn is treated as an act of verbal communication between the poet Rsi and the deity, with the hymn itself transmitting certain information from man to god. From this viewpoint, the hymn is used as a means to maintain a circular exchange of gifts between the Rsis and their gods. Many peculiarities of the functioning of the grammatical system of the Rgveda are interpreted in connection with the model of the universe of the Vedic Aryan. For example, the concept of time as a circular process bears closely on the use of the verbal grammatical categories of tense and mood; the personification of some abstract forces can explain some irregularities in the functioning of the nominal category of gender; and the idea of magical power attributed to the Sacred Speech in general, and to the name of a god in particular, underlies the magical grammar of this religious poetry.

Book The Upanishads II Kena And Other Upanishads

Download or read book The Upanishads II Kena And Other Upanishads written by Sri Aurobindo and published by SriAurobindoAshram Publication Dept. This book was released on 2006 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upanishads has now been expanded and brought out in two volumes, with much new material published for the first time in book form. The single volume The Upanishads has been discontinued, with all its content included in the two new volumes, each available as an independent book. The Kena Upanishad is concerned with the relation of mind-consciousness to Brahman-consciousness , writes Sri Aurobindo in his commentary on this work. The material world and the physical life exist for us only by virtue of our internal self and our internal life. According as our mental instruments represent to us the external world, according as our vital force in obedience to the mind deals with its impacts and objects, so will be our outward life and existence. Along with Sri Aurobindo's final translation of and commentary on the Kena, this book includes his translations of six other Upanishads as well as several other translations and commentaries, and essays such as 'The Philosophy of the Upanishads'.

Book excerpt: Queen Kunti, a tragic and heroic figure, emerges from an explosive era in the history of ancient India. Her teachings are simple and illuminating outpourings revealing the deepest transcendental emotions of the heart and the deepest philosophical and theological penetrations of the intellect. At the conclusion of the devastating Kurukshetra war, Queen Kunti approaches Lord Krishna as He prepares to depart the scene of the battle. Kunti's words are words of glorification impelled by a divine love steeped in wisdom. Kunti's spontaneous glorification of Lord Krishna and her description of the spiritual path are immortalized in the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana (Srimad-Bhagavatam), and they have been recited, chanted, and sung by sages and philosophers for thousands of years. As they appear in the First Canto of the Bhagavatam, Queen Kunti's celebrated prayers consist of only twenty-six couplets (verses 18 through 43 of the Eighth Chapter), yet they are considered a philosophical, theological, and literary masterpiece. Let her heartfelt words of wisdom bring solace to your soul.
