Book Urban Drainage Second Edition

Download or read book Urban Drainage Second Edition written by David Butler and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-05-20 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental and engineering aspects are both involved in the drainage of rainwater and wastewater from areas of human development. Urban Drainage deals comprehensively not only with the design of new systems, but also the analysis and upgrading of existing infrastructure, and the environmental issues involved. Each chapter contains a descriptive overview of the complex issues involved, the basic engineering principles, and analysis for each topic. Extensive examples are used to support and demonstrate the key issues explained in the text. Urban Drainage is an essential text for undergraduates and postgraduate students, lecturers and researchers in water engineering, environmental engineering, public health engineering and engineering hydrology. It is a useful reference for drainage design and operation engineers in the water industry and local authorities, and for consulting engineers. It will also be of interest to students, researchers and practitioners in environmental science, technology, policy and planning, geography and health studies.

Book Floods in a Changing Climate

    Book Details:
  • Author : Slobodan P. Simonović
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2012-11-22
  • ISBN : 1139851624

Download or read book Floods in a Changing Climate written by Slobodan P. Simonović and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-22 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flood risk management is presented in this book as a framework for identifying, assessing and prioritizing climate-related risks and developing appropriate adaptation responses. Rigorous assessment is employed to determine the available probabilistic and fuzzy set-based analytic tools, when each is appropriate and how to apply them to practical problems. Academic researchers in the fields of hydrology, climate change, environmental science and policy and risk assessment, and professionals and policy-makers working in hazard mitigation, water resources engineering and environmental economics, will find this an invaluable resource. This volume is the fourth in a collection of four books on flood disaster management theory and practice within the context of anthropogenic climate change. The others are: Floods in a Changing Climate: Extreme Precipitation by Ramesh Teegavarapu, Floods in a Changing Climate: Hydrologic Modeling by P. P. Mujumdar and D. Nagesh Kumar and Floods in a Changing Climate: Inundation Modelling by Giuliano Di Baldassarre.

Book Flood Control and Drainage Engineering 3rd Edition

Download or read book Flood Control and Drainage Engineering 3rd Edition written by S. N. Ghosh and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-08-10 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Primarily written as course material on flood control and drainage engineering for advanced students of civil engineering, this third edition is thoroughly revised. It accommodates recent developments in remote sensing, information technology and GIS technology. New additional material deals with problems of flood forecasting, flood plain prioritization and flood hazard zoning, and engineering measures for flood control. Drainage improvement is tackled, with particular regard to salinity and coastal aquifer management from the ingress of sea water. The book includes design problem-solving and case studies, making it practical and applications-oriented. The subject matter will be of considerable interest to civil engineers, agricultural engineers, architects and town planners, as well as other government and non-government organizations

Book Flood Risk Assessment and Management

Download or read book Flood Risk Assessment and Management written by Andreas H. Schumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flood catastrophes which happened world-wide have shown that it is not sufficient to characterize the hazard caused by the natural phenomenon "flood" with the well-known 3M-approach (measuring, mapping and modelling). Due to the recent shift in paradigms from a safety oriented approach to risk based planning it became necessary to consider the harmful impacts of hazards. The planning tasks changed from attempts to minimise hazards towards interventions to reduce exposure or susceptibility and nowadays to enhance the capacities to increase resilience. Scientific interest shifts more and more towards interdisciplinary approaches, which are needed to avoid disaster. This book deals with many aspects of flood risk management in a comprehensive way. As risks depend on hazard and vulnerabilities, not only geophysical tools for flood forecasting and planning are presented, but also socio-economic problems of flood management are discussed. Starting with precipitation and meteorological tools to its forecasting, hydrological models are described in their applications for operational flood forecasts, considering model uncertainties and their interactions with hydraulic and groundwater models. With regard to flood risk planning, regionalization aspects and the options to utilize historic floods are discussed. New hydrological tools for flood risk assessments for dams and reservoirs are presented. Problems and options to quantify socio-economic risks and how to consider them in multi-criteria assessments of flood risk planning are discussed. This book contributes to the contemporary efforts to reduce flood risk at the European scale. Using many real-world examples, it is useful for scientists and practitioners at different levels and with different interests.
