Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiritualism: A Satanic Delusion, and a Sign of the Times The subject of Spiritual agencies, and the investigation of their mysterious operations, is one of deep interest to mankind. From the earliest ages it has afforded ground for superstition, investigation, and speculation. Various as the theories of the present are found to be, they all, or nearly all, have their counterparts in the dim distance of ages past, and within the period covered by historic records, both sacred and profane. The belief in a race of invisible and superhuman agents, who are, more or less intimately concerned in terrestrial affairs, is found in all past ages, and is common alike to the Jews and the Barbarians, to the wise and the unwise, to Christians and to heathen. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finalist for the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award in the Religion category Invisible Hosts explores how the central tenets of Spiritualism influenced ways in which women conceived of their bodies and their civic responsibilities, arguing that Spiritualist ideologies helped to lay the foundation for the social and political advances made by women in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As public figures, female spirit mediums of the Victorian era were often accused of unfeminine (and therefore transgressive) behavior. A rhetorical analysis of nineteenth-century spirit mediums' autobiographies reveals how these women convinced readers of their authenticity both as respectable women and as psychics. The author argues that these women's autobiographies reflect an attempt to emulate feminine virtues even as their interpretation and performance of these virtues helped to transform prevailing gender stereotypes. She demonstrates that the social performance central to the production of women's autobiography is uniquely complicated by Spiritualist ideology. Such complications reveal new information about how women represented themselves, gained agency, and renegotiated nineteenth-century gender roles.

Book Satanism A Social History

Download or read book Satanism A Social History written by Massimo Introvigne and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 665 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 17th-century French haberdasher invented the Black Mass. An 18th-century English Cabinet Minister administered the Eucharist to a baboon. High-ranking Catholic authorities in the 19th century believed that Satan appeared in Masonic lodges in the shape of a crocodile and played the piano there. A well-known scientist from the 20th century established a cult of the Antichrist and exploded in a laboratory experiment. Three Italian girls in 2000 sacrificed a nun to the Devil. A Black Metal band honored Satan in Krakow, Poland, in 2004 by exhibiting on stage 120 decapitated sheep heads. Some of these stories, as absurd as they might sound, were real. Others, which might appear to be equally well reported, are false. But even false stories have generated real societal reactions. For the first time, Massimo Introvigne proposes a general social history of Satanism and anti-Satanism, from the French Court of Louis XIV to the Satanic scares of the late 20th century, satanic themes in Black Metal music, the Church of Satan, and beyond.

Book Slaves of Satan

Download or read book Slaves of Satan written by Patrick Ryan Bell and published by TrineDay. This book was released on 2024-05-02 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Slaves of Satan is an extraordinary book that looks at the darkest corners of the human and diabolical mind and answers the question of why. Why do human beings commit some of the most horrific, appalling, and unspeakable acts known to man. What is it that drives these evil people; serial killers, cult leaders, occultists, and dictators to leave a trail of murder, violence, sexual depravity, and total unmitigated destruction in their wake. Author Patrick Bell through years of extensive research has done a deep dive into one of religions most controversial and terrifying subjects, diabolical possession, and the most serious and horrifying form of it known as Perfect Possession. When a human being has given themselves, their intellect, mind, will and body, their very souls over completely to the source of all evil, Lucifer. The author examines the theology and church teaching behind perfect possession, the three types of it, who it occurs to and why and then examines people from history (Slaves of Satan) who were perfectly possessed including serial killers, dictators, the international occult elite and the diabolical deeds and destruction they have perpetrated, led on by their master the devil, upon the human race.
