Book Spiritual Poetic Meditations

Download or read book Spiritual Poetic Meditations written by Martin Michael Martin and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual Entrepreneurialism is a story of how one small church, aging and in decline, experienced renewal and transformation by bridging the power of the Holy Spirit with business development tools from the small business sector. This book briefly explores the entrepreneurial drive of the early pioneers of the American Methodist movement and how recapturing the passion of their entrepreneurial spirit and using proven small business development principles a congregation can be changed for Jesus sake. As the Church continues its march through the twenty-first century it is wise to explore new ways in which we can transition aging and declining small churches into growing centers of vital, life-changing ministry. The approach to small church renewal offered in Spiritual Entrepreneurialism is but one possibility of how small church renewal can take place. Wade Martin is pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg, Maryland. As a second career pastor he has served in the U.S. Navy, had leadership roles in small private and public companies, and has served as chair of the board of a nonprofit organization. He received his undergraduate degree from Excelsior College in New York, received his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC, and will receive his Doctor of Ministry degree in May of 2008 from Wesley Theological Seminary with a concentration in Church Leadership Excellence.

Book Poetry as Spiritual Practice

Download or read book Poetry as Spiritual Practice written by Robert McDowell and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2008-07-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[When we read and write poetry,] it is as if a long-settled cloud in our mind suddenly dissipates, and we are divine once again." -- from the Introduction Poetry is the language of devotion in prayer, chant, and song. Reading and writing poetry creates clarity, deepens and expands spiritual inquiry, and cultivates wisdom, compassion, self-confidence, patience, and love. In author Robert McDowell's words, poetry makes you into a tuning fork of the Divine. But poetry has disappeared over the centuries from religious ceremonies, academic curricula, and public discourse. In Poetry as Spiritual Practice, the first inspirational and instructional guide to combine poetry and spirituality, McDowell restores poetry as the natural language of spiritual practice and invites you to recognize poetry as "the pure sound and shape of your spirit." Vividly illustrated with a wide range of poems from all historical eras and poetic traditions, numerous religions and faiths, and McDowell's own and his students' work, Poetry as Spiritual Practice will reintroduce you to the unique pleasure of verse. And meditations throughout will allow you to integrate reading and writing poetry into your spiritual journeys and daily life. Since many of us have long forgotten, or never learned, the mechanics and terminology of poetry -- trochaic feet and tropes trip us up; we can't tell a villanelle from its shorter cousin, rondeau; and a terza rima may as well be a tanka -- this is also an instructional handbook on reading and writing poetry. An engaging guide through the landscape of world poetry, McDowell argues along the way for the many practical benefits of poetic literacy. Making poetry an essential part of daily rituals, aspirations, and intentions will put you on the path to greater meaning, growth, and peace in your life. At once an engaging technical primer, a profound meditation on the relationship between poetry and the Divine, and an inspirational guide for integrating poetry into spiritual practice, Poetry as Spiritual Practice will become a cherished companion.

Download or read book Om Poems written by Tushar K. Ray and published by PublishAmerica. This book was released on 2004-07-01 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: OM Poems is a collection of eighty poems that has emerged from the depths of my emotional being. The ultimate truth that I perceived through relentless quest for my holistic evolution over the past twenty-five years is expressed here in the form of a variety of poems. In this regard, I consider these poems as the pearls of a necklace that I call OM Poems. In Sanskrit, the word OM has a deep philosophical meaning. OM is the primordial sound from the universal creative energy, correctly uttered as "A-U-M" and that encompasses all the sounds of the cosmos taken together. Since the ultimate truth is the totality of all things taken together and cannot be defined (though deeply experienced within), the word OM is the most fitting symbol of the Truth. I am certain that all readers searching for the meaning of human life will find great solace in OM Poems.

Book God and Elizabeth Bishop

Download or read book God and Elizabeth Bishop written by C. Walker and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-07-07 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In God and Elizabeth Bishop Cheryl Walker takes the bold step of looking at the work of Elizabeth Bishop as though it might have something fresh to say about religion and poetry. Going wholly against the tide of recent academic practice, especially as applied to Bishop, she delights in presenting herself as an engaged Christian who nevertheless believes that a skeptical modern poet might feed our spiritual hungers. This is a book that reminds us of the rich tradition of religious poetry written in English, at the same time taking delicious detours into realms of humour, social responsibility, and mysticism.

Book The Clear Light

Download or read book The Clear Light written by Steve Taylor and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Eckhart Tolle has written, poetry "has been recognized since ancient times as a highly appropriate medium for the expression and transmission of spiritual truth." The Clear Light is Steve Taylor's latest contribution to this poetic tradition, offering short and powerful reflections as a guide to spiritual awakening and as experiential glimpses of the state of enlightenment itself. Taylor ranges widely, through subjects including "Making the Human Race Whole," "Freedom from the Past," and "The Reality of Connection," always in clear and simple language. Best of all, he reminds us of the choices we always have when life feels chaotic and overwhelming: empathy, acceptance, and love. Soothing but also challenging, Taylor's words continually affirm the profound bedrock of peace and even joy in the present that is always available. The book's eponymous reflection says it best: There is nothing that can't be undone no past injury that can't be healed no past mistake that can't be corrected in the clear light of the present. Reading this book is a transformational spiritual experience in itself.

Book excerpt: "Perhaps the greatest testament of personal devotion published in this century." — The New York Times A powerful journal of poems and spiritual meditations recorded over several decades by a universally known and admired peacemaker. A dramatic account of spiritual struggle, Markings has inspired hundreds of thousands of readers since it was first published in 1964. Markings is distinctive, as W.H. Auden remarks in his foreword, as a record of "the attempt by a professional man of action to unite in one life the via activa and the via contemplativa." It reflects its author's efforts to live his creed, his belief that all men are equally the children of God and that faith and love require of him a life of selfless service to others. For Hammarskjöld, "the road to holiness necessarily passes through the world of action." Markings is not only a fascinating glimpse of the mind of a great man, but also a moving spiritual classic that has left its mark on generations of readers.

Book 101 Poems to Get You Through the Day and Night

Download or read book 101 Poems to Get You Through the Day and Night written by and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2010-11-09 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an anthology designed to help you get through the stresses of modern life. For rapid and effective relief around the clock, 24-7, without side effects, try a poem -- whatever the time of the day (or night), you can be sure that some poet, past or present, has been there too. To help you find the right poem at the right time, the organization of the book is like that of a book of hours. Starting with Getting Up, it then moves on to those other morning traumas: Stepping on the Scale and Looking into the Mirror. As the day moves on there are sections to cover everything, from Office Politics to Off to School. And if by five p.m. your head is throbbing, dig into the poems in the Take 5 section and let the world recede. By the end of the day you may want to look for inspiration among the poems in Going Home, but if you are intent on veering from the straight and narrow, then turn to the Behaving Badly poems and you'll find you're in good company. Anyone who feels vaguely guilty about settling down in front of the TV instead of taking café society by storm should turn to the poems in the Not Tonight section.

Book Meister Eckhart s Book of the Heart

Download or read book Meister Eckhart s Book of the Heart written by Jon M. Sweeney and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meister Eckhart (1260 -1328) was a priest, a mystic, and nearly a heretic (he died before the Church court's verdict). In the 20th century, the Roman Catholic Church rehabilitated him and the late Pope John Paul II spoke of his work with fondness. However, what makes him of particular interest is the fact that he has influenced a wide range of spiritual teachers and mystics both inside and outside the Christian tradition. Erich Fromm, Eckhart Tolle, Richard Rohr, D. T. Suzuki, and Rudolf Steiner have all credited Eckhart as being an important influence on their thought. In addition, his work has influenced the development of 20th century American Buddhism and the Theosophical tradition. Eckhart wrote at a time - much like our own - when society appeared to be coming apart at the seams. In the midst of all that chaos and uncertainty, he captured the many forms and stages of the love of God, the mystic path, and the journey of transformation - in language so startling that he, too, was often accused of heresy. Now, seven centuries later, this fresh, stunning rendering of his work translates the essence of one of Christianity's greatest poetic and spiritual voices. Here is a book that conveys the heart of Eckhart's teaching on what it means to love God and embark on an authentic spiritual journey - a journey that is characterized by mystery, paradox, and an embrace of the unknown.
