Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Donna Kay Harris. First, let me welcome you into my small world of spiritual awareness. My spiritual awareness started in 1978. I used to write to free my spirit. I was at a point in my life where I wanted to be freefree from work, family, and old friends. I wrote to connect my spirit and have a clear understanding of my lifestyle. I started to write to find my authentic self, as well as to realize if my family and friends were authentic to me and themselves. It helped me change my caretaking behavior. Learning and growing in a way that I can serve God in my adult life, this book is a gift to myself. I hope it is a gift to anyone who reads my poems. I hope my poems can help you on your spiritual journey in life.

Book How to Heal from Sophisticated Slavery

Download or read book How to Heal from Sophisticated Slavery written by Donna Kay Harris and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because racism isnt so blatant these days, it is important to highlight the issues that are keeping the African American race in bondage instead of continuing to let those issues go unresolved and cause more issues. This book suggests dealing with the issues head-on to move forward and end the cycle of dysfunction. This book has discussed numerous ways to heal from sophisticated slavery. It is important for everyone who reads this to self-reflect and see which type of sophisticated slavery is affecting them, whether they are experiencing issues in their employment or health or trying to discover their purpose. Once that has been discovered, then you can create your own strategy on how you can heal. Please use these various tactics provided to help you heal. Use your support systema friend, counselor, or spiritual counselor or psychiatristto aid you in the process. Once you have healed yourself, then you can also share what you learned with others. The goal is to heal the community. We also encourage other cultures to get involved. This is a group effort, and we can make progress one day at a time. During my spiritual journey and my observations of life, I have always been amazed at what brings us to Gods love. It may be a hardship, a family death, or any kind of separation in the family. This may seem odd, but I have always felt that African American people are blessed and privileged to have had so many hardships. During this adversity and definitely horrific experience, they were forced to rely and depend on God. They just dont know that this was the most awesome support, love, honor, and bonding that anyone can ever experience. I hope anyone who reads this book will be encouraged to use the love of God, your healer and your provider, as a special gift for yourself for anything you ask for in life. I have witnessed the power and support of God. It is more powerful than any amount of money, any amount of success, and any other human gift. Please trust God in everything you do.

Book excerpt: **Winner of the 2020 Sunday Times/University of Warwick Young Writer of the Year Award** Jay Bernard's extraordinary debut is a fearless exploration of the New Cross Fire of 1981, a house fire at a birthday party in which thirteen young black people were killed. Dubbed the 'New Cross Massacre', the fire was initially believed to be a racist attack, and the indifference with which the tragedy was met by the state triggered a new era of race relations in Britain. Tracing a line from New Cross to the 'towers of blood' of the Grenfell fire, this urgent collection speaks with, in and of the voices of the past, brought back by the incantation of dancehall rhythms and the music of Jamaican patois, to form a living presence in the absence of justice. A ground-breaking work of excavation, memory and activism - both political and personal, witness and documentary - Surge shines a much-needed light on an unacknowledged chapter in British history, one that powerfully resonates in our present moment. 'The verse has anger and political purpose, but a rare lyrical precision, too. The combination is powerful' Sebastian Faulks, Spectator, Books of the Year 2020 *Winner of the Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry* *Shortlisted for the Costa Poetry Award; T.S. Eliot Prize; Forward Prize for Best First Collection; Dylan Thomas Prize; RSL Ondaatje Prize; John Pollard Foundation International Poetry Prize* *Longlisted for the Jhalak Prize 2020*

Book Dying Is Not Death

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2007-01-01
  • ISBN : 1498276253
  • Pages : 270 pages

Download or read book Dying Is Not Death written by Lee Hoinacki and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dying Is Not Death examines from a traditional humanistic position the act of dying. The author views death as a universal experience that can and perhaps should force us to explore various technological intrusions upon it. Each chapter is an independent narrative, and some chapters tell stories of those struggling to die when confronted with the medical system's technological artifacts. Recounting different persons' experiences of death, Lee Hoinacki suggests that the medical system's conventional approaches to dying and death can distort our preparation for this most important experience. Borrowing from Jacques Ellul and Ivan Illich, Hoinacki acknowledges technology as an all-embracing system with powerful symbolic effects on the human condition and argues to a conflict between faith and technology. Indeed, with Ellul, he holds that in order to criticize technology, one must find some “place" outside the technological milieu that would act as a kind of Archimedean lever. One must somehow get to the Beyond to judge where one stands in the world.

In this book, Miro Roman and his AI Alice_ch3n81 develop a playful scenario in which they propose coding as the new literacy of information. They convey knowledge in the form of a project model that links the fields of architecture and information through two interwoven narrative strands in an “infinite flow” of real books. Focusing on the intersection of information technology and architectural formulation, the authors create an evolving intellectual reflection on digital architecture and computer science.

Book The Oxford Encyclopedia of American Cultural and Intellectual History

Download or read book The Oxford Encyclopedia of American Cultural and Intellectual History written by Joan Shelley Rubin and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 1551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Encyclopedia of American Cultural and Intellectual History brings together in one two-volume set the record of the nation's values, aspirations, anxieties, and beliefs as expressed in both everyday life and formal bodies of thought. Over the past twenty years, the field of cultural history has moved to the center of American historical studies, and has come to encompass the experiences of ordinary citizens in such arenas as reading and religious practice as well as the accomplishments of prominent artists and writers. Some of the most imaginative scholarship in recent years has emerged from this burgeoning field. The scope of the volume reflects that development: the encyclopedia incorporates popular entertainment ranging from minstrel shows to video games, middlebrow ventures like Chautauqua lectures and book clubs, and preoccupations such as "Perfectionism" and "Wellness" that have shaped Americans' behavior at various points in their past and that continue to influence attitudes in the present. The volumes also make available recent scholarly insights into the writings of political scientists, philosophers, feminist theorists, social reformers, and other thinkers whose works have furnished the underpinnings of Americans' civic activities and personal concerns. Anyone wishing to understand the hearts and minds of the inhabitants of the United States from the early days of settlement to the twenty-first century will find the encyclopedia invaluable.
