Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiritism and the Fallen Angels in the Light of the Old and New Testaments Of writing books on Spiritualism in these days there is no end. But with a single exception, and that rather inadequate in its treatment of the subject, we have found none to put into the hands of a Christian desirous of learning how to meet and deal with this error from an all round Biblical point of view. Some were too technical, some too bulky and expensive and some so mixed with other error as to be impossible to recommend. Not a few were written by those who were well-informed on the scientific phases of Spiritualism, the findings of the Society of Psychical Research or the doings of mediums and seances, but whose authors appeared either ignorant of or indifferent to the Bible, which to the Christian, of course, holds the first place and is of final authority. Some of the writers were of the novelist type like Sir A. Conan Doyle, Basil King or Booth Tarkington, and antagonistic to Christianity considering it a confirmed failure. TEACHING OF THE PAULINE EPISTLES THE previous chapter showed us something of the obstinate and determined antagonism of the spiritists, the sorcerers and the magicians toward the Christian apostles. But the latter met it by their inspired writings, as well as by their spoken words and the wonders and signs they wrought in the power of the Holy Spirit. One of the first in the order of the books of the New Testament and one of the best known of the written words of Paul, is that in the tenth chapter of his first epistle to the Corinthians, where he says: "The things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I would not that ye should have fellowship with demons. "Ye can not drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye can not be partakers of the Lord's table, and the table of demons. "Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?" The actual existence of demons is here implied if not positively stated, as well as their actual worship by the benighted pagans. But what is more to the point so far as Christian believers are concerned, is the temptation to affiliate with such worshippers, an affiliation cutting off from communication with the true God. And more than that, it not only severs communion, but exposes believers to the divine chastisement as implied in the words, "Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?" That is, will we attempt to resist His will and openly bring His honor into contempt? The words denote the strong displeasure in consequence of adulterous love. The fiercest of all human passions is used to illustrate the hatred of God towards idolatry, and spiritist seances come dangerously near idolatry. There is a curious passage in the eleventh chapter of...

Book excerpt: The truth about demons is far stranger—and even more fascinating—than what's commonly believed. Are demons real? Are they red creatures with goatees holding pitchforks and sitting on people's shoulders while whispering bad things? Did a third of the angels really rebel with Satan? Are demons and "principalities and powers" just terms for the same entities, or are they different members of the kingdom of darkness? Is the world a chaotic mess because of what happened in Eden, or is there more to the story of evil? What people believed about evil spiritual forces in ancient biblical times is often very different than what people have been led to believe about them today. And this ancient worldview is missing from most attempts to treat the topic. In Demons, Michael Heiser debunks popular presuppositions about the very real powers of darkness. Rather than traditions, stories, speculations, or myths, Demons is grounded in what ancient people of both the Old and New Testament eras believed about evil spiritual forces and in what the Bible actually says. You'll come away with a sound, biblical understanding of demons, supernatural rebellion, evil spirits, and spiritual warfare.

Book From the Ashes of Angels

Download or read book From the Ashes of Angels written by Andrew Collins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001-09-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides convincing evidence that angels, demons, and fallen angels were flesh-and-blood members of a giant race predating humanity, spoken of in the Bible as the Nephilim. • Indicates that the earthly paradise of Eden was a realm in the mountains of Kurdistan. • By the author of Gateway to Atlantis. Our mythology describes how beings of great beauty and intelligence, who served as messengers of gods, fell from grace through pride. These angels, also known as Watchers, are spoken of in the Bible and other religious texts as lusting after human women, who lay with them and gave birth to giant offspring called the Nephilim. These religious sources also record how these beings revealed forbidden arts and sciences to humanity--transgressions that led to their destruction in the Great Flood. Andrew Collins reveals that these angels, demons, and fallen angels were flesh-and-blood members of a race predating our own. He offers evidence that they lived in Egypt (prior to the ancient Egyptians), where they built the Sphinx and other megalithic monuments, before leaving the region for what is now eastern Turkey following the cataclysms that accompanied the last Ice Age. Here they lived in isolation before gradually establishing contact with the developing human societies of the Mesopotamian plains below. Humanity regarded these angels--described as tall, white-haired beings with viperlike faces and burning eyes--as gods and their realm the paradise wherein grew the tree of knowledge. Andrew Collins demonstrates how the legends behind the fall of the Watchers echo the faded memory of actual historical events and that the legacy they have left humanity is one we can afford to ignore only at our own peril.
