Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the physics of spin-polarized free electrons. Many aspects of this rapidly expanding field have been treated in review articles, but to date a self-contained monograph has not been available. In writing this book, I have tried to oppose the current trend in science that sees specialists writing primarily for like-minded specialists, and even physicists in closely related fields understanding each other less than they are inclined to admit. I have attempted to treat a modern field of physics in a style similar to that of a textbook. The presentation should be intelligible to readers at the graduate level, and while it may demand concentration, I hope it will not require decipher ing. If the reader feels that it occasionally dwells upon rather elementary topics, he should remember that this pedestrian excursion is meant to be reasonably self-contained. It was, for example, necessary to give a simple introduction to the Dirac theory in order to have a basis for the discussion of Mott scattering-one of the most important techniques in polarized electron studies.

Book Electron Spin Polarization by Low Energy Scattering

Download or read book Electron Spin Polarization by Low Energy Scattering written by J. Kessler and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The status of theory and experiment of electron polarization by scattering at energies between a few eV and a few keV is reviewed. Polarization effects in scattering from free atoms, molecules, and solid targets are discussed. Apart from a survey of the problems which have been solved, a perspective is given of the work which would be interesting to pursue in this rapidly developing field of research. (Author).

Book Spin Polarized Two Electron Spectroscopy of Surfaces

Download or read book Spin Polarized Two Electron Spectroscopy of Surfaces written by Sergey Samarin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-20 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents developments of techniques for detection and analysis of two electrons resulting from the interaction of a single incident electron with a solid surface. Spin dependence in scattering of spin-polarized electrons from magnetic and non-magnetic surfaces is governed by exchange and spin-orbit effects. The effects of spin and angular electron momentum are shown through symmetry of experimental geometries: (i) normal and off normal electron incidence on a crystal surface, (ii) spin polarization directions within mirror planes of the surface, and (iii) rotation and interchange of detectors with respect to the surface normal. Symmetry considerations establish relationships between the spin asymmetry of two-electron distributions and the spin asymmetry of Spectral Density Function of the sample, hence providing information on the spin-dependent sample electronic structure. Detailed energy and angular distributions of electron pairs carry information on the electron-electron interaction and electron correlation inside the solid. The “exchange – correlation hole” associated with Coulomb and exchange electron correlation in solids can be visualized using spin-polarized two-electron spectroscopy. Also spin entanglement of electron pairs can be probed. A description of correlated electron pairs generation from surfaces using other types of incident particles, such as photons, ions, positrons is also presented.

Book Spin 96 Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High energy Spin Physics

Download or read book Spin 96 Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High energy Spin Physics written by J E J Oberski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-04-15 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments using highly polarized intense beams and targets, and theoretical studies of spin and polarization phenomena, are now providing us with numerous additional details of the electroweak and strong interactions and the structure of matter. The spin structure of the nucleon has been measured over wide ranges of kinematic variables, and the cross sections have been calculated to several orders in perturbative field theory. At present, the influence of the higher twist contributions, the gluon spin, and the quark orbital angular momentum are under scrutiny. Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) captures a lot of our experimental knowledge of hard polarized scattering processes. Can our understanding of such processes within QCD be further improved?Hyperons produced in high energy reactions show how puzzling strong interactions between hadrons still are. Spin observables in experiments at intermediate energy are used to test parity and charge symmetries. Will they also reveal, at low energy, a violation of time reversal symmetry? We are on the verge of using parity violation measurements at intermediate electron scattering energies to determine the amount of strange quark contributions to the neutral weak form factor of the nucleon. The polarization of the sea quarks is expected to be measured soon in W± decays produced in high energy polarized proton interactions. Will the jets in polarized Z⁰ decays show a definite handedness? These and many other topics are discussed in these proceedings.

Book Spin polarization Observables in Elastic Electron Scattering from Spin 1

Download or read book Spin polarization Observables in Elastic Electron Scattering from Spin 1 written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the formalism of nucleon-nucleon scattering as a starting point, electron scattering from spin-1/2 nuclei is examined. It is seen that high-energy electron-nucleon scattering, for example, exhibits a remarkable simplicity when compared with that of nucleon-nucleon scattering. The 6 amplitudes and 36 nucleon-nucleon observables are reduced to 3 and 9, respectively, by the relativistic nature of the electron. The one-photon exchange mechanism finally reduces the number of amplitudes and independent observables to 2. This treatment serves to extend the spin-polarization ''language'' of hadronic scattering to that of electron scattering also. 6 refs. (LEW).

Download or read book Tables of Scattering Amplitudes Spin Polarizations and Phase Shifts of 25 EV to 1500 EV Electrons Scattered Elastically from Li Na Mg P K Ca Sc Mn Ga Br Sr Mo Rh Cd Ba W and Os III written by Donald C. Gregory and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dirac equation was solved numerically by the method of partial waves in order to obtain elastic low-energy electron scattering factors for selected elements at ten energies. From the complex scattering amplitudes, the differential cross sections and spin polarization factors were calculated. In addition, the phase shifts for these elements at five more energies have been included. Since the exchange of the incoming electron with the atomic electrons and the charge cloud polarization are not taken into account in these calculations, the scattering factors at angles of less than 10 degrees should be used with caution. The three reports in this series can be used as a basis for interpolation to obtain the differential cross sections for all additional elements and all intermediate energies.
