Book Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics

Download or read book Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics written by A. S. Iljinov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-01-27 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermediate-Energy Nuclear Physics is devoted to discussing the interaction between hadrons with nuclei, which leads to the emission of particles during an intranuclear cascade and subsequent decay of a highly excited residual nucleus. Experimental data and the methods and results of the calculation of probabilities of various processes initiated by intermediate-energy hadrons in nuclei are set forth and discussed. The potential for obtaining information on the structure and properties of nuclei by comparing experimental data with theoretical results is analyzed. New issues, such as analytic methods for the solution of kinetic equations describing the cascade, nuclear absorption of hadrons from bound states of hadronic atoms, interaction of antinucleons with nuclei, multifragmentation of highly excited residual nuclei, and polarization phenomena, are discussed in detail. The book also demonstrates hadron-nucleus interactions that bridge the gap between low-energy and heavy ions physics. It is an interesting reference for nuclear physicists and other researchers interested in the analysis of problems associated with the evolution of the early (hot) universe, neutron stars and supernovas, after-burning of radioactive waste in nuclear energy installations, and electronuclear energy breeding.

Book Measurement of Np Elastic Scattering Spin spin Correlation Parameters at 484 634 and 788 MeV

Download or read book Measurement of Np Elastic Scattering Spin spin Correlation Parameters at 484 634 and 788 MeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spin-spin correlation parameters C/sub LL/ and C/sub SL/ were measured for np elastic scattering at the incident neutron kinetic energy of 634 MeV. Good agreement was obtained with previously measured data. Additionally, the first measurement of the correlation parameter C/sub SS/ was made at the three energies, 484, 634, and 788 MeV. It was found that the new values, in general, do not agree well with phase shift predictions. A study was carried out to determine which of the isospin-0 partial waves will be affected by this new data. It was found that the 1P1 partial wave will be affected significantly at all three measurement energies. At 634 and 788 MeV, the 3S1 phase shifts will also change. 29 refs., 21 figs., 16 tabs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 9th International Symposium on High Energy Spin Physics, held in Bonn, 6-15 September 1990, attracted 280 participants from 16 countries. This meet ing covered not only fundamental experimental and theoretical spin phenomena but also technological developments in polarized beams and targets. For the first time intermediate energy spin physics with electron machines was discussed extensively. Highlights included the work on polarized high energy electron beams at LEP and TRISTAN and the failure of the standard model in connection with spin phenomena, in particular the growth of the spin asymmetry in violent proton-proton scattering. Also the presentation of different models in con nection with the still-unsolved 'proton spin crisis' and the proposals for four different experiments to determine the spin structure functions caused lively and sometimes controversial discussions. The Organizing Committee would like to thank all speakers for their excel lent talks, the conveners for the organization of the parallel sessions, and the International Advisory Committee for their advice. Four workshops preceded the symposium. 160 participants, among them many young physicists, discussed mainly technological spin problems. These papers are published in separate proceedings. We gratefully acknowledge the enthusiastic help of the members of our institute in preparing and running the conference and the workshops, especially Mrs. D. FaSbender, Mrs. E. Wendorf, Mrs. J. Wetzel, and Dr. U.Idschok.

Book Spin 96 Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High energy Spin Physics

This book was released on 1997-04-15 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments using highly polarized intense beams and targets, and theoretical studies of spin and polarization phenomena, are now providing us with numerous additional details of the electroweak and strong interactions and the structure of matter. The spin structure of the nucleon has been measured over wide ranges of kinematic variables, and the cross sections have been calculated to several orders in perturbative field theory. At present, the influence of the higher twist contributions, the gluon spin, and the quark orbital angular momentum are under scrutiny. Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) captures a lot of our experimental knowledge of hard polarized scattering processes. Can our understanding of such processes within QCD be further improved?Hyperons produced in high energy reactions show how puzzling strong interactions between hadrons still are. Spin observables in experiments at intermediate energy are used to test parity and charge symmetries. Will they also reveal, at low energy, a violation of time reversal symmetry? We are on the verge of using parity violation measurements at intermediate electron scattering energies to determine the amount of strange quark contributions to the neutral weak form factor of the nucleon. The polarization of the sea quarks is expected to be measured soon in W± decays produced in high energy polarized proton interactions. Will the jets in polarized Z⁰ decays show a definite handedness? These and many other topics are discussed in these proceedings.

Book Spin Observables in Proton neutron Scattering at Intermediate Energy

Download or read book Spin Observables in Proton neutron Scattering at Intermediate Energy written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary of np elastic scattering spin measurements at intermediate energy is given. Preliminary results from a LAMPF experiment to measure free neutron-proton elastic scattering spin-spin correlation parameters are presented. A longitudinally polarized proton target was used. These measurements are part of a program to determine the neutron-proton amplitudes in a model independent fashion at 500, 650, and 800 MeV. Some new proton-proton total cross sections in pure helicity states (.delta.sigma/sub L/(pp)) near 3 GeV/c are also given. 37 refs., 2 figs.

Book Measurement of the Spin dependent Parameter D R A and P and Analyzing Power for Vector P d Elastic Scattering at 500 and 800 MeV

Download or read book Measurement of the Spin dependent Parameter D R A and P and Analyzing Power for Vector P d Elastic Scattering at 500 and 800 MeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A specific set of spin dependent parameters for elastic scattering of polarized protons from an unpolarized deuterium target have been measured over the angular range of 15° and 65° in the Laboratory system. The experiment was performed at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) using a polarized proton beam of 0.5 and 0.8 GeV incident kinetic energy. A carbon analyzer was used to measure the scattered proton polarization. This comprises the first set of measurements in the intermediate energy range. Of particular interest, the analyzing power, (A/sub y/), has been measured for the pd elastic scattering reaction at both energies. A test of Time-Reversal Invariance (TRI) has been made for this reaction. This was accomplished by comparing the polarization (P) with the analyzing power A/sub y/ together with the depolarization parameter, (D), which was measured in this experiment. No evidence of time-reversal violation was found for this reaction in the region of non-zero spin flip probability. The measurements also furnished very useful and selective information on the p-d collision matrix, as well as the double-spin-flip nucleon-nucleon amplitudes.
