Download or read book Theory and Practice of Geophysical Data Inversion written by Andreas Vogel and published by Vieweg+Teubner Verlag. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributions to this volume cover a wide spectrum of recent developments in geophysical data inversion, including basic mathematics and general theory, numerical methods, as well as computer implementation of algorithms. Most of the papers are motivated by problems arising from geophysical research and applications both on a global scale and with respect to local geophysical surveys, underlining the increasing importance of geophysical exploration methods in various fields, such as structural geology, prospecting for mineral and energy resources, hydro geology, geotechnology, environmental protection and archaeology. The first section of the book deals with basic mathematics and general theory underlying geophysical data inversion. Papers presented here are concerned with stabilization algorithms to solve ill-posed inverse problems, sensitivity of kernel function estimations to random data errors and reduction of errors in inverse modelling of response functions by linear constraints, numerical procedures for approximating the solution to boundary value problems, accuracy and stability of inverse ill-posed problems constituted by problems of moments, and fast Fourier transforms for solving potential field problems. The second section contains papers on gravity and magnetics, dealing with the solvability of the inverse gravimetric problem for sources represented by point masses and other elementary, solution of the inverse problem in cases of nonuniformly distributed data as obtained by palaeomagnetic studies, satellite observations, and surface projections of buried archaeological targets by inverse filtering of geomagnetic data.

Download or read book Rock Blasting written by Pijush Pal Roy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-06-23 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a unique supplement to contemporary scientific literature on rock blasting technology. It encapsulates theoretical and practical aspects of drilling and blasting techniques used in both surface and subterranean excavations connected with civil as well as mining activities. Case studies are presented to illustrate correlations between theoretical calculations and empirical findings. It also summarizes the results of research carried out by the Blasting Department of the Central Mining Research Institute since its inception in the year 1970. It contains fifteen extensive chapters covering statistical methods, design parameters, rock breakage mechanism, structural damage, fragmentation, emerging techniques, surface and sub-surface blasting methodologies, safety and environmental aspects, explosive characteristics and modern initiating devices.
Download or read book Applied Geotechnology written by A. Roberts and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Geotechnology deals with rock excavation and related topics such as the stability of soil and rock slopes, earthquakes, and earthquake engineering. Some basic ideas and fundamentals that are applicable to specific aspects of geotechnical engineering are described. Blasting technology is also discussed. along with water supply, oil and gas storage, the disposal of radioactive wastes, and the effects of mining on the surface environment. This book is comprised of 15 chapters and begins with a look at rock excavation by blasting, with emphasis on the blasting action of an explosive charge in solid material as well as the process of detonation in a high explosive. Vibrations and noise generated by blasting and other engineering processes are also considered, along with the techniques used in rock and earth excavation such as down-the-hole drilling, rotary rock drilling, roller-bit drilling, and rotary-percussive rock drilling. The following chapters focus on rock ripping and cutting; rapid tunnelling; the environmental and engineering aspects of the movement and control of groundwater; underground storage of oil and gas; pillar support of underground excavations; and ground-reinforcement techniques. The final chapter is devoted to ground movement, caving, and subsidence. This monograph is written primarily for engineers and is intended as a class text for first- and second-year students of geological, mining, and civil engineering at university and technical college.

Download or read book Geotechnology written by A. Roberts and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geotechnology: An Introductory Text for Students and Engineers focuses on the principles, methodologies, approaches, and applications of geotechnology. The publication first elaborates on engineering in earth materials and behavior of earth materials under static load. Discussions focus on rheological properties of earth materials, elastic materials, plane strain, stress, systematic description of geological factors, engineering classification of rocks and rock masses, classification of soils for engineering purposes, and soil and rock mechanics. The text then examines time-dependent behavior of earth materials, failure criteria for soils and rocks, engineering properties of soils, fluids in soils and rocks, and laboratory measurement of load, stress, and strain in earth materials. The manuscript examines the gathering and recording of data on geology, rock structure, and rock classification, application of models to geotechnology, response of earth materials to dynamic loads, and observation of mass deformations in geotechnology. The publication is a vital source of data for students, engineers, and researchers wanting to explore geotechnology.
Download or read book Rock Mechanics and Engineering Volume 3 written by Xia-Ting Feng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 916 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis, Modeling & Design is the third volume of the five-volume set Rock Mechanics and Engineering and contains twenty-eight chapters from key experts in the following fields: - Numerical Modeling Methods; - Back Analysis; - Risk Analysis; - Design and Stability Analysis: Overviews; - Design and Stability Analysis: Coupling Process Analysis; - Design and Stability Analysis: Blast Analysis and Design; - Rock Slope Stability Analysis and Design; - Analysis and Design of Tunnels, Caverns and Stopes. The five-volume set “Comprehensive Rock Engineering”, which was published in 1993, has had an important influence on the development of rock mechanics and rock engineering. Significant and extensive advances and achievements in these fields over the last 20 years now justify the publishing of a comparable, new compilation. Rock Mechanics and Engineering represents a highly prestigious, multi-volume work edited by Professor Xia-Ting Feng, with the editorial advice of Professor John A. Hudson. This new compilation offers an extremely wideranging and comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in rock mechanics and rock engineering and is composed of peer-reviewed, dedicated contributions by all the key experts worldwide. Key features of this set are that it provides a systematic, global summary of new developments in rock mechanics and rock engineering practices as well as looking ahead to future developments in the fields. Contributors are worldrenowned experts in the fields of rock mechanics and rock engineering, though younger, talented researchers have also been included. The individual volumes cover an extremely wide array of topics grouped under five overarching themes: Principles (Vol. 1), Laboratory and Field Testing (Vol. 2), Analysis, Modelling and Design (Vol. 3), Excavation, Support and Monitoring (Vol. 4) and Surface and Underground Projects (Vol. 5).
