Book Automatic Performance Prediction of Parallel Programs

Download or read book Automatic Performance Prediction of Parallel Programs written by Thomas Fahringer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996-03-31 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduces an innovative approach for predicting some of the most important performance parameters of parallel programs, including work distribution, number of transfers, amount of data transferred, network contention, transfer time, computation time, and number of cache misses. The approach is based on advanced compiler analysis that carefully examines a wide range of features of the software and the most important machine specific parameters. It has been fully implemented on the Vienna Fortran Compilation System, a parallelizing compiler for Fortran 77. The primary focus is on distributed memory microprocessor systems, though parts of the analysis can be applied to shared memory architectures as well. Book Performance Evaluation Prediction and Visualization of Parallel Systems

Download or read book Performance Evaluation Prediction and Visualization of Parallel Systems written by Xingfu Wu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-02-28 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance Evaluation, Prediction and Visualization in Parallel Systems presents a comprehensive and systematic discussion of theoretics, methods, techniques and tools for performance evaluation, prediction and visualization of parallel systems. Chapter 1 gives a short overview of performance degradation of parallel systems, and presents a general discussion on the importance of performance evaluation, prediction and visualization of parallel systems. Chapter 2 analyzes and defines several kinds of serial and parallel runtime, points out some of the weaknesses of parallel speedup metrics, and discusses how to improve and generalize them. Chapter 3 describes formal definitions of scalability, addresses the basic metrics affecting the scalability of parallel systems, discusses scalability of parallel systems from three aspects: parallel architecture, parallel algorithm and parallel algorithm-architecture combinations, and analyzes the relations of scalability and speedup. Chapter 4 discusses the methodology of performance measurement, describes the benchmark- oriented performance test and analysis and how to measure speedup and scalability in practice. Chapter 5 analyzes the difficulties in performance prediction, discusses application-oriented and architecture-oriented performance prediction and how to predict speedup and scalability in practice. Chapter 6 discusses performance visualization techniques and tools for parallel systems from three stages: performance data collection, performance data filtering and performance data visualization, and classifies the existing performance visualization tools. Chapter 7 describes parallel compiling-based, search-based and knowledge-based performance debugging, which assists programmers to optimize the strategy or algorithm in their parallel programs, and presents visual programming-based performance debugging to help programmers identify the location and cause of the performance problem. It also provides concrete suggestions on how to modify their parallel program to improve the performance. Chapter 8 gives an overview of current interconnection networks for parallel systems, analyzes the scalability of interconnection networks, and discusses how to measure and improve network performances. Performance Evaluation, Prediction and Visualization in Parallel Systems serves as an excellent reference for researchers, and may be used as a text for advanced courses on the topic.

Book Parallel Supercomputing In Atmospheric Science Proceedings Of The Fifth Ecmwf Workshop On The Use Of Parallel Processors In Meteorology

Download or read book Parallel Supercomputing In Atmospheric Science Proceedings Of The Fifth Ecmwf Workshop On The Use Of Parallel Processors In Meteorology written by Geerd-r Hoffmann and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-07-15 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weather forecasting and climatology have traditionally been users of the world's fastest supercomputers. The recent emergence of massively parallel supercomputers as likely successors to current vector supercomputers has created an acute need to convert weather and climate models to suit parallel supercomputers with thousands of processors. Several major efforts are underway worldwide to accomplish this. ECMWF has established itself as the central venue for bringing together operational weather forecasters, climate researchers and parallel computer manufacturers to share their experience on these efforts every second year. The recent dramatic developments in supercomputer manufacturing have made the 1992 ECMWF Workshop timelier than before.

Book Evolutionary Decision Trees in Large Scale Data Mining

Download or read book Evolutionary Decision Trees in Large Scale Data Mining written by Marek Kretowski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-05 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a unified framework, based on specialized evolutionary algorithms, for the global induction of various types of classification and regression trees from data. The resulting univariate or oblique trees are significantly smaller than those produced by standard top-down methods, an aspect that is critical for the interpretation of mined patterns by domain analysts. The approach presented here is extremely flexible and can easily be adapted to specific data mining applications, e.g. cost-sensitive model trees for financial data or multi-test trees for gene expression data. The global induction can be efficiently applied to large-scale data without the need for extraordinary resources. With a simple GPU-based acceleration, datasets composed of millions of instances can be mined in minutes. In the event that the size of the datasets makes the fastest memory computing impossible, the Spark-based implementation on computer clusters, which offers impressive fault tolerance and scalability potential, can be applied.
