Book Communication and Law Enforcement

Download or read book Communication and Law Enforcement written by Dennis F. Gundersen and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1988 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is a book about communication--the process of relating to other human beings--in the context of law enforcement professions. Nearly all law enforcement professionals have in common the need to achieve success in interpersonal communication. No matter how skillful and intelligent they may become, their effectiveness is severely limited if they have not developed good communication skills. Effective communication will not solve all problems, but few problems can be handled effectively without adequate communication." - Preface.

In the Handbook of Research on Advances in Digital Technologies to Promote Rehabilitation and Community Participation, a comprehensive exploration of these cutting-edge technologies and their impact is presented, and it delves into various digital solutions, such as virtual reality, tele-rehabilitation, mobile apps, rehabilitation platforms, and more. The book sheds light on the applications to promote rehabilitation and enhance community involvement. It provides a profound understanding of how these technologies can facilitate remote rehabilitation, foster self-management of illnesses, support independent living, and enhance communication and social participation. Furthermore, it emphasizes the accessibility of information and resources that digital technologies provide, unlocking new possibilities for individuals with disabilities. However, this research goes beyond mere exploration and also examines the challenges and opportunities associated with these digital advancements. The ethical considerations that arise in the utilization of these technologies are addressed, emphasizing the need for responsible and considerate implementation.

Book Speech and Reading

    Book Details:
  • Author : Beatrice de Gelder
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2017-11-01
  • ISBN : 1351620169
  • Pages : 386 pages

Download or read book Speech and Reading written by Beatrice de Gelder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1995, this collection of papers introduced a new dimension to the understanding of reading by focusing on the relation between spoken and written language processing. New perspectives on speech and reading are introduced by highlighting aspects of the two linguistic skills that had received little attention in the past. The comparative perspective adopted in this collection presents an innovative focus on speech and the acquisition of alphabetic reading skill. Major new sources of evidence are discussed, like reading in nonconventional input modalities, braille reading, and speech processing in lip-reading. Contributors also discuss the reading process in non-alphabetic orthographies and the specifics of the reading acquisition problem in logographic or mixed writing systems (like Chinese and Japanese) and their relations to underlying speech representations. A central concern of all chapters is the role of phonological processes in different modalities and writings systems, and at different stages in the reading acquisition process. Drawing on expertise of the contributors, the book presents a novel and varied view of the achievements, the promises and the challenges facing the researcher once the intimate link between speech and reading comes to the foreground.

Book Using MTSS to Help Low Income Students Succeed

Download or read book Using MTSS to Help Low Income Students Succeed written by Angel Barrett and published by National Professional Resources Inc. This book was released on 2023-09-27 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2022), 16.9% of children live below the poverty line. Children who live in high-poverty areas have lower test scores and are more likely to drop out of school than those who attend schools in predominantly higher-income areas (OASH, n.d.). Such environments also undermine a child’s chances of adult economic success, with Americans who have less education, especially Black and Hispanic Americans, more likely to move down the income ladder than up it (Kochhar & Sechopoulos, 2022). Despite the difficulties facing low-income students, it is possible for these students to be college and/or career-ready upon graduation. This requires providing them with evidence-based supports that address the key academic deficits they face: lack of prior background knowledge and experience; language deficits, especially in vocabulary and linguistic patterns; and lack of prior success in school. This guide presents Tier 1 and Tier 2 multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) strategies that are proven effective for meeting the needs of this population. It also describes ways educators can prime low-income students for success, such as cultivating their self-confidence by building on academic success, aligning daily activities to long-term applications, and creating a culture that instills hope, where all students believe their potential is unlimited.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: electrical activity during thinking, both with and without verbalization and the use of language. Although seemingly simple, these experiments tackle a very complex subject with which psychologists, linguists, and others are only beginning to come to grips. Sokolov and his group have succeeded admirably in splitting the subject apart by driving in the wedges of objective measurement and unique experimental formulations. Chapter IX dips into the neurology and neurophysiology of motor speech and its feedback mechanisms and the dynamic localization and organization of the cerebral mechanisms responsible for symbolic formulation of speech and thought. The bibliography brings together a considerable number of Russian publications on this subject, as well as some of the pertinent American and European literature. This book is a welcome addition to an important field. Donald B.
