This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen dioxide (N0 ) is notorious for its complex visible spectrum and has 2 frustrated many chemists and physicists. Despite their intense investigations the molecule still resists complete analysis of its spectrum. Because of the high density of lines, it is apparent that high-resolution measurements are essential to a thorough understanding of the spectrum. The major part of this book consists of an atlas, described in Chap. 2, of the absorption spectrum and the Stark modulation spectrum of N0 mea 2 sured using a cw dye laser. The narrow spectral width as well as the wide scan range of the dye laser made it possible to record the spectra contin uously over a wide range with Doppler-limited resolution. In the spectral range 16751-17885 em-I, about 13300 peaks have been observed in the absorption spectrum and their wave numbers, calibrated against Ar lines, are listed in the tables. The Stark modulation spectrum also shown provides useful information about the energy level structures complementary to that obtained from the absorption spectrum.

Download or read book Molecules and Radiation written by Jeffrey I. Steinfeld and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11-09 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unified treatment introduces upper-level undergraduates and graduate students to the concepts and methods of modern molecular spectroscopy and their applications to quantum electronics, lasers, and related optical phenomena. Starting with a review of the prerequisite quantum mechanical background, the text examines atomic spectra and diatomic molecules, including the rotation and vibration of diatomic molecules and their electronic spectra. A discussion of rudimentary group theory advances to considerations of the rotational spectra of polyatomic molecules and their vibrational and electronic spectra; molecular beams, masers, and lasers; and a variety of forms of spectroscopy, including optical resonance spectroscopy, coherent transient spectroscopy, multiple-photon spectroscopy, and spectroscopy beyond molecular constants. The text concludes with a series of useful appendixes.

Download or read book Applied Many Body Methods in Spectroscopy and Electronic Structure written by D. Mukherjee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a steady advance of the atomic and molecular many-body methodology over the last few years, with a concomitant development of versatile computer codes. Understanding and interpretation of electronic structural features and the associated spectroscopic properties via many-body techniques are becoming competitive with those obtained with the traditional formalisms. Since the many-body techniques are not yet a part of the repertoire of the "black-box tools" of electronic structure and spectroscopy, it seems worthwhile to take stock now of the recent progress in certain selected areas. The present volume is more in the nature of proceedings of a "Paper Symposium," rather than of one which actually took place. We did organize in Calcutta, between December 10 and 12, 1990, a small meeting on Applied Many-Body Methods to Spectroscopy and Electronic Structure, jointly organized by the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science and the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences. Several leading practitioners were invited, among which some could not come for various reasons.
Download or read book Biographies of Scientists for Sci Tech Libraries written by Tony Stankus and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1991, is an invaluable guide to biographies of scientists from a wide variety of scientific fields. The books selected for this highly descriptive bibliography help librarians shatter readers’ stereotypes of scientists as monomaniacal and uninteresting people by providing interesting and provocative titles to capture the interest of students and other readers. The biographies included in this very special bibliography were carefully selected for their humour and human insights to give future scientists encouragement, inspiration, and an understanding of the origins of particular scientific fields. These biographies are unique in that they explore the whole personality of the scientist, giving students a glimpse at the variety and drama of the lives beyond well-known contributions or Nobel prize accomplishments.
