Book Spectral and High Order Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Spectral and High Order Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by C. Canuto and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1990 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade high order methods for scientific computing have been attracting increasing interest. This trend has been generated by the need for a higher accuracy in the numerical simulation of more and more complex scientific and technological problems; it is backed up by sound mathematical research, and propelled by the availability of faster supercomputers. Spectral methods have now become the methods preferred in the prediction of many highly structured phenomena. The h-p version of the finite element method has proven extremely effective in handling singularities in structural mechanics. Finite differences have been demonstrated capable of blending flexibility and accuracy in applications to non-smooth problems. Although these and other high order methods originated from different, sometimes even opposite philosophies, they exhibit common features, and share a large part of the methodologies for their mathematical investigation and their algorithmic implementation. The technical content of the 14 invited and 30 general papers presented in this volume reflect the high standard of current research being achieved in this field.

Book Meshfree Methods for Partial Differential Equations IX

Download or read book Meshfree Methods for Partial Differential Equations IX written by Michael Griebel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-19 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects selected papers presented at the Ninth International Workshop on Meshfree Methods held in Bonn, Germany in September 2017. They address various aspects of this very active research field and cover topics from applied mathematics, physics and engineering. The numerical treatment of partial differential equations with meshfree discretization techniques has been a very active research area in recent years. While the fundamental theory of meshfree methods has been developed and considerable advances of the various methods have been made, many challenges in the mathematical analysis and practical implementation of meshfree methods remain. This symposium aims to promote collaboration among engineers, mathematicians, and computer scientists and industrial researchers to address the development, mathematical analysis, and application of meshfree and particle methods especially to multiscale phenomena. It continues the 2-year-cycled Workshops on Meshfree Methods for Partial Differential Equations.

Book Sparse Grids and Applications Miami 2016

Download or read book Sparse Grids and Applications Miami 2016 written by Jochen Garcke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sparse grids are a popular tool for the numerical treatment of high-dimensional problems. Where classical numerical discretization schemes fail in more than three or four dimensions, sparse grids, in their different flavors, are frequently the method of choice. This volume of LNCSE presents selected papers from the proceedings of the fourth workshop on sparse grids and applications, and demonstrates once again the importance of this numerical discretization scheme. The articles present recent advances in the numerical analysis of sparse grids in connection with a range of applications including computational chemistry, computational fluid dynamics, and big data analytics, to name but a few.

Book Software for Exascale Computing SPPEXA 2016 2019

Download or read book Software for Exascale Computing SPPEXA 2016 2019 written by Hans-Joachim Bungartz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book summarizes the research done and results obtained in the second funding phase of the Priority Program 1648 "Software for Exascale Computing" (SPPEXA) of the German Research Foundation (DFG) presented at the SPPEXA Symposium in Dresden during October 21-23, 2019. The individual chapters address one or more of the research directions (1) computational algorithms, (2) system software, (3) application software, (4) data management and exploration, (5) programming, and (6) software tools. The book has an interdisciplinary appeal: scholars from computational sub-fields in computer science, mathematics, physics, or engineering will find it of particular interest.

Book Boundary and Interior Layers Computational and Asymptotic Methods BAIL 2016

Download or read book Boundary and Interior Layers Computational and Asymptotic Methods BAIL 2016 written by Zhongyi Huang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects papers associated with lectures that were presented at the BAIL 2016 conference, which was held from 14 to 19 August 2016 at Beijing Computational Science Research Center and Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. It showcases the variety and quality of current research into numerical and asymptotic methods for theoretical and practical problems whose solutions involve layer phenomena. The BAIL (Boundary And Interior Layers) conferences, held usually in even-numbered years, bring together mathematicians and engineers/physicists whose research involves layer phenomena, with the aim of promoting interaction between these often-separate disciplines. These layers appear as solutions of singularly perturbed differential equations of various types, and are common in physical problems, most notably in fluid dynamics. This book is of interest for current researchers from mathematics, engineering and physics whose work involves the accurate app roximation of solutions of singularly perturbed differential equations; that is, problems whose solutions exhibit boundary and/or interior layers.
